How are they affording him?

Firstly, Tomasson will be head coach not manager. He will work with Broughton on recruitment and he will have a say but most foreign head coaches like this structure and most clubs all over Europe have this structure in place. Its works and allow the head coach to focus on the training ground, tactics and match days stuff.

Why it is a big risk?

When they’ve sold the guys who want to stay in the Prem they’ll still have a few bob to spend. Maybe they’ll do a swap with Vydra.

Who they selling? who paying 40 mil for Pope?

They are in huge financially mess due to the Loans taken out to buy the club.

Vydra is in talks over a new deal but no deal agree yet so out of contract in 17 days time

Don't be pedantic on Tomasson's title, you know what I mean.

The risk is that the manager doesn't decide on the players himself and is therefore lumbered with players that he didnt fancy or want. Self-explanatory potential risk/drawback of a DOF/head coach model.

It’s concerning but it’s not a huge financial mess. Weghorst Cornet and Pope will probably generate over 40 million between them. Collins is one of the most promising centre halves in the country and if they sell him that’s more money. They’ve released a lot of dead wood. Exciting project for Kompany…. I obviously hope he fails 😂

Tomasson will work closely with Broughton on recruitment but his main focus is coaching the team. Leaving Broughton to find the players and bring in more recruitment staff. Tomasson as head coach won't need to focus on that or sort out personal for the medical or sport science department as Broughton will sort that.

for Example, Tomasson will say he needs a pacey striker with high work rate and can press from the front so its Broughton with recruitment staff to find players for that position and then him and Tomasson will pick who they want from a shortlist of 4 or 5 players.

Clubs will look to get those players on the cheap.

I would say its will tough challenge for Kompany and he needs a sporting director will him and good experience number 2 with championship experience with him

How can you possibly know exactly how the relationship will work?

My point is, it can often not run smoothly with the manager not properly consulted in regards to recruitment and he can end up with players he doesn't want or rate. It is a common risk of such a structure, and it certainly doesn't always run smoothly as you suggest.

I do agree.

Only problem I see is if Tomassen then doesn't rate said player.

See Davenport for example.

I take and agree with your consensus regarding the risk of this structure. But is Davenport a good example? No suggestion that Mowbray didn't pick him and ultimately he spent most of the time especially in the first two seasons on the treatment table, and when he did feature he was unremarkable.

Like I just posted that my opinion of how it will between Broughton and Tomasson. I'm sure before agreeing to come here Tomasson and Broughton would have talked about their working relationship and how it will work

That's why the head coach has input who on the shortlist he would prefer.

Plenty of clubs have made this structure work from this league and I will give you 2 examples Brentford and Norwich

Didn't Mowbray want Davenport or have I miss something or miss understood?

Presumably all that would have been discussed in the interview and for him to agree to take the job (if he has) then he must be comfortable working with a Dof above him  ?

It's not like he was already in situ and a Dof has been brought in over his head.

Yes I know he wants out but was he good signing by them and who is going to buy or loan him?

He'll go back to Germany or Holland get 20 plus goals. Terrible business for Burnley though and they'll be desperate to get his 80k a week wages off their books. Loan or loan to buy.

He’ll go to a European club. That last minute winner for the Netherlands the other day will help, think you need to take your Rovers tinted specs off. Let’s just focus on ourselves, we’ve got about 8 signings we need to make.

I don't know about a big risk, it will come as a shock to the players.

To both of you, it is ok to agree in advance as I am sure often is the case at other clubs but that risk is still always there that the manager doesn't rate the players given to him.

If Tomasson does not request much in the way of picking players then ultimately that risk will be particularly prevalent.

I'm not saying that it can't work or won't work, just highlighting a big risk of such a structure.

Not a Mowbray signing apparently.

Based on the way Mowbray never selected him I'd guess it's true.

Where did you hear that he wasn't his signing.?

He rarely played because he was rarely fit predominantly. But even when he did, he was hardly great was he?

People mentioned it when we first signed him.

I genuinely thought he was good.

Bradley Johnson kept getting picked ahead of him when he couldn't pass and had zero mobility.

Davenport, could tackle, good on the ball and tenacious.

Ultimately injuries stopped him from ever gaining any momentum even if he was a really good player but I think his reputation grew when he was absent and he was nothing special.

Now that the new coach is (pretty much) lined up, time to start speculating on potential ins and outs!

I'm hoping we can do some interesting business!

Is JDT really going to have the oompah lumpah's as his 2nd in command?  He must have his own men...that bit worries me and why didn't Hibs want him...?
