I think it’s better to wait on what the fee is Matty, I can’t honestly see it being anywhere near £2.5m other than if he takes us up!

Either way though, it’s hard to criticise the club / owners who seem to be putting their money where their mouth is! 👍🏼

Why? Firstly we will never truly know the fee. But does the owners allowing a small portion of two big sales (Brereton counted) to be invested remove any justification for potential criticism? What if a signing turns out to be crap, which will at some stage happen, hopefully infrequently?

You once said that people need to only ask and a cheque would be written, why did this not happen when funding for a new pitch was revoked?

Me too…I do genuinely like Brittain and Styles who have stood out to me in every game I’ve seen them in. I have asked those around me on a couple of occasions, how on Earth those two haven’t had big moves!!

Haven’t seen anything of Szmodics or Bowler for that matter.

The really interesting point about the targeted players is their profile. Proof there is a desired style of play and that there’s a plan!! 🙌🏽

Is that proof?

We have always had a style of play and presumably a plan, Tomasson is not a trend setter. Mowbray had a team that played a back 3 and counter attacked, he had a team that played deep and went long to Graham and played off the second balls and he had a team that played out from the back in a 4-3-3 to varying degrees of success. Coyle had a consistent 4-4-2 with 2 wingers with plenty of crosses. Every manager has a plan, ultimately what is important is the results that follow.

I genuinely couldn't tell you what Mowbray's plan was and I go every week.

Really like Szmodics as a player, think he'll be a good addition, finances involved in the deal however are questionable.

I look at it as 'If we'd got that £3m for Rothwell, would we be happy with £2.5m (including add-ons) for Szmodics?'

Imo, absolutely.

How much have you seen of him play?

The reason I ask is I have always seen him play as a number 10, I am curious to know how often in the past he has played either from the wing or as a striker to see if he could fit in the same team as Dack.

I think its an excessive fee for him, if he was 23 I'd be happier paying it but there's not really any resale value in it. However, if he's been profiled as a player that we want and that's how much we value him at then I'm willing to accept it and back the signing.

I've looked at him on wyscout, seems an intelligent player who links up well, improvises quite well in front of goal (sounds very dackish), capable on the ball, seems athletic and a good carrier of the ball (Rothwell), believe he has operated as a secondary striker and wide for Posh at times, so think he fits this interchangeable front 4 quite well.

Apologies if it’s been mentioned on any thread but Dack was warming up in front of us today and there is definitely a rift. He ignored the fans and had the monk on all game. He wasn’t his usual bubbly self.

it was odd to see. I was told last week he wasn’t injured but had fallen out with JDT about his work rate and told he’d have to change to be in his team……..anyone else heard anything?

Correct me if I’m wrong but he also didn’t come out after the final whistle…I thought his body language was fine during the warm ups, seems like he was giving vale plenty of advise…but not coming out at the end I find odd.

I think @Paul Manimentioned something about Dack not suiting JDT playing style.

The fans wanted to see Dack on but JDT wouldn't be sway to let the fans have what they want.

We seen today what JDT wants from his number 10. Is Dack that player? or will he adapt it to suit Dack?

I think this is the most likely situation.

Dack isn't fully fit, so better to match him carefully.

Dack is an interesting and difficult one.  Do Rovers stick or twist or do they even have an option?  A big earner with 12 months to go on contract but, IMO, struggling for form, fitness, mobility etc.  IMO, not a natural athlete and you have to question what Dack can bring to the party now given he turns 29 this year and on the back of two bad injuries and I think I'm right in saying not having started or completed a 1st team competitive game in almost 18 months.  Think he's now an expensive luxury to have sat on the bench and I think the last thing Rovers need in this 'new era' is for any individual or ego to rock the boat.  The question is, given his wages, inactivity and the unknown of what is actually left of a player who once promised so much, would there even be any takers?

Does anyone know what Carter's injury is?  Are we looking at days or weeks?

I think Dack is going to have to find a level of dedication to lifestyle and training that has previously eluded him. Those injuries would be a mountain to climb even for the most committed professional. He looks way, way short of the required standard and I am very dubious to say the least in his ability to recover what he once had.

Sad because he has been a joy to watch.

Dack not fully fit... dont think that JDT would stab him straight away. He likes to challenge the players. Hopefully we will see a Dack firing on all cylinders soon. Dacks had two serious knee injuries so have to be managed carefully.

He would have done better than Vale today no danger there...Should have started Dack and give him minutes whilst the season gets going....perfect game that for him....very average QPR , Dack could have had a ball

We need a few luxury players though because he has unique ability to turn a game that nobody else there does.  He can still play a big part this season even used as a sub or infrequent starter.

They could find someone who's more athletic for sure but how does a club with our present wage structure replace that kind of flair.

Dack just not fit yet. JDT said the team is number one and the team got the 3 points today. 45 more games and Dack will get his chance 👍🏻

Couldn't have done much worse than the out of his depth Vale.

Strange comment - Vale did fine today.

He's been one of the better performers pre-season and deserved his chance today.

Dack has struggled in pre-season and, barring a well taken header in the final friendly, he was absolutely rusty - lots of misplaced passes.

The season is long and Dack will play his part (should he stay injury-free). Vale was the right choice today, the result being vindication of that.
