Didn't we offer him a new improve contract about 18 months ago? That has unsigned and he now was to move. Probably overseas. Its down to Rovers to sell him and I would be bring his agent today and sorting out a deal and which club he wants to move to. Get it done this week

It's close to panic stations. No matter how many times Chaddy says there's no need to panic and signings are coming, I like to gauge things with my own eyes. Nothing is happening and there is ZERO chance we get the 6 players required (without BBD going and replacing him) by next Weds.

Really bizzare we backed out of the styles deal when supposedly so close with it being done, went for a loan of morton instead ..hmm

He cannot be sold UNLESS he agreed to it. What do you suggest is a good time in a contract to offer a new deal especially when for the first 3 years he was barely average at best?

Because that would have jeopardised the future progression of Wharton and Garrett and we can't be having that now can we.

As was Gallagher but they still got him re-signed up early (he had two years left on his existing deal).

Of course you're right. But we could quite easily put some pressure on him to leave. It would strain the relationship - but we know what happens when a player knows they are going, despite all of the "he will give 100% effort!" we see a Joe Rothwell 2.0. 

As I've championed repeatedly for years now, much like our 'wage structure' policy I would have a 'contract negotiations start 2 years before the end of your contract - if you haven't signed with 18 months left we will actively try to sell you' policy. Regardless of the player.

You have to wonder whether Tomasson will eventually walk away if the status quo persists to the end of the transfer window. This cannot be what he signed up for or was promised - and will give him the perfect excuse to quit if form and results continue to get worse as the season goes on

If they had any real long term plan they would realise it was absolutely necessary to introduce a policy like this, especially given recent events.

Especially when it's someone who has been bought with significant investment as a development project.  Much like developing our own youth to then leave for nothing it's utterly pointless in terms of building a team/club for future success.

There has to be some caveat in there to protect these assets and bring the club some kind of compen should they leave at any point.

When it's happening with good player after good player it is pretty indefensible.

Yes, the wording of his remarks after the match on Saturday definitely had a less diplomatic ring about them. The subtext was, "Gregg, for God's sake get on with it!"
