Woefully short at LB, CM our wide and up front.

4  more players needed even if BBD stays.

I think woefully short at LB, CF and RW.

Vale should be out on loan somewhere. Dolan / Markanday don't fill me with confidence as starters and Gallagher is what he is.

In midfield I think you've got 5 (6 if you include Edun) for 2 spots, that's enough.

If I could choose between Caulker or Phillips to partner Ayala tomorrow, it wouldn't be the lad already here put it that way...

Caulker as an experienced head to be 4th/5th choice seems ok to me.

It's a curious signing if they're also bringing in Hyam.

Pushes Carter down to 5th in the pecking order, which he won't be happy with. He needs to play most weeks at this point in his career.

There's no way you just called Edun a LB!

It's why I keep asking how far away Batty is, because Edun is terrible at LB. He almost sulks when asked to play there - his body language is completely different when asked to play in CM.

Hugely disappointing if its 3 and 2 of them are caulker and hyam.  This wasn't the window we were told it was going to be. Yet again venkys look like they are refusing to spend much money.  I fear jdt will walk by the end of the season

Chaddy called for 4 or 5 "quality" signings. I'm sure he didn't mean low quality

That's not enough if we want to challenge anywhere near the Playoffs.

From what I've seen JDT is a fantastic manager, but you only have to look at the benches of Sheffield Utd, Boro, WBA, Norwich, Watford etc to see 3 isn't enough.

I think it’s enough to challenge, in the sense that it’s an open league and anyone can challenge

The last set of accounts I can see is for the 2020/21 season, with 186% wages to turnover (see photo). This does include being hampered by Covid however.

Where are you getting this 78% from?

Apologies, 78% was 2018, 2019 was 72%. I was looking at precovid accounts but now realize they had their last 2 years of parachute payments to hit those figures.

The irony being he would have been a better signing then rather than after back to back humblings

Might've even prevented them. Could be that Caulker on a free (instead of SVDB, for example) allows money to be spent elsewhere?

I commented on how he performed at Rovers, not afterwards. Didn't take the league by storm but was alright and we wanted to keep him. He pitched up at Roma briefly on trial but was unsurprisingly not kept on. In my view, he certainly wasn't awful at Rovers and was actually a pretty good squad player.

The parallels drawn were the way in which both were quickly written off and derided as over the hill.

Not saying I'm over the moon of course, and would be very disappointed if not joined by another centre back.

He really wasnt that good at all. Previous England international, still young, bought for 17 million? Nah, there is a reason he ended up in Australia before 30. he really should have bossed the Championship - head not in it.

I just think he was okay. Not the disaster we feared, but then reverted to type when he rejected a contract offer and ended up in the wilderness for months as a result.

1 left back who's shown he's clearly not up to it and another who lots of  people consider slightly worse.

4 wingers?  Hedges? Dolan at a push?  Who are the others?

5 CM.  Oldest is 24.  3 are 19 or younger with hardly any first team experience.  No pace,  physicality or experience in there.  What if we want to play with 3 midfielders?

We are woefully short.

Some of you moaners need to get a grip.

Gregg never promised anything, he said we have a healthy budget, particularly if you remove teams with Parachute payments.

If we sign Hyam (circa £2m fee) plus Szmodics (circa £1.5m fee) Brittain (circa £850k fee) - all realistic fees by the way.

We will have spent north of £4m on transfer fees. This would put us as one of the higher spenders in the league despite being bottom half of the revenue table. Very competitive budget if you ask me.

Let's say we bring in Hyam and Caulker.  Are we stronger than last year?

Don't think anyone thought it would be a disaster given his pedigree. Seemed a decent punt at the time. Didn't prove to be a good one in my view.

Can't tell if you're being facetious or not, but tbh I haven't been overly enamoured with the idea of loaning in a young centre back and being obliged to play him when we've got 3/4 of our own coming through. Everyone can see we're crying out for some experience back there, and I wouldn't be surprised if the last couple of games has brought that home to the Rovers hierarchy. Perhaps dropped our interest in JPVH and gone for 26 year old Hyam for similar reasons too.

If we can get a couple of years at least out of him, he's happy to play backup, and it saves us money then yeah, it might be better than another Liverpool loan.

It was a tad facetious however, I'm inclined to agree to some extent about loaning the Liverpool lad.  That said, he is probably better than Caulker, who may be sat on the books for a couple of years - I suppose the devil will be in the detail.

I'd be more in favour if there were signs that our left back and attacking options were going to be strengthened.
