How on earth can you know that?

IF Hirst comes in, scores 30 goals, gets us promoted and gets two hattricks against the dingles, still "Never worth 5 million"?

(Obviously I'm aware that is unlikely to happen before anyone starts)

Astounded people are confident in saying he DEFINITELY won't be worth £5m no matter what he does for us.

Bearing in mind most of us wrote off BBD as a bad un before he became fuckin excellent, I’m equally astounded mate. Never learn!

But Mowbray signed these players and has wasted money that has left us in a position where our squad is now woefully short in every area bar maybe centreback.  Brereton took 2 or 3 seasons to show some promise and Gallagher is as useless as ever

Brereton was a stupid signing at the time, hindsight doesn't change that, he hadn't shown enough to merit the fee. In this case, we get a season to see him in our shirt and decide whether he is worth the fee. The people deciding are hopefully not as dim as Mowbray. Despite that, Brereton still turned out to be worth more than double what we paid, probably around 3-4 times what we paid if he was fully under contract.

Gally wasn't worth 5 mill at all, although he isn't as bad as some make out.

The main reason our squad is woefully short in every area isn't because we spent 7 mill on BBD and 5 mill on Gallagher, years ago (not counted in our next FFP cycle I think). It's because we dropped a bollock on contracts, relied heavily on loans, and signed has-beens on inflated wages.

So we sign him for 5 million then he has another good season.  Then we sell him for 15 million the summer after we are back to square one.  There's no building its just developing players then making a profit.

You're all over the show here

Yet if we sign 3-4 players in the next day, you'll be here on Friday telling us we now have a playoff capable squad etc.

If we sign 3 or 4 quality players then we might well be capable of reaching the play offs.

What's your point?

Don't know if BBD is worth more than 10mill right now.

Brentford had a proper model. We are scattergunning. We got slightly fortunate with Brereton having 1 good season.  Armstrong money hasn't really been reinvested.  Even Brentford got slightly fortunate to find the magic formula to gain promotion.  Most trading clubs usually stagnate around the football league. Rovers aim should always be promotion because we are a premier league club and venkys owe us to take us back where they took us from. They are also wealthy they should be funding for better players. I don't think Brentford owners are billionaires

We sold Armstrong after he was bang the goals in. And Brereton looks certain to be sold this summer

Because they have one year left on their contracts.

Did we cash in on Nyambe, Rothwell, Lenihen?

The owners can't run the club with an open cheque book(not that I think they would anyway)FFP has to be considered.

We should start selling more players and start reinvesting the money.

If Hirst has a good season and bangs in 15 goals then I'm sure most on here will be happy we have the option to make the deal permanent.

Just trying to make the point 5 million is about 3 million too much

How do you know he won't be worth £5 million at the end of the season though?

Nobody here(well not that I'm aware) thinks Hirst is worth £5 million now?

Anyway the fee might not even be £5 million that is just a speculative figure

Ok great. If its staggered payments then fine. But 5 million is not something rovers can throw away on one player unless the owners are willing to open the purse strings for a summer spree.  It's Leicester pulling a fast one just because rovers are a lower league club

He couldn't kick shite off a rope for sunderland. His stock had fallen massivly.

Ah, Sunderland. Just Sunderland where they played him on the wing - while ignoring his form in the Premier League elsewhere, doesn’t make him a busted flush as we saw at Ewood.

There is a plan now and they seem to be building from the back as well for the first time since Hughes. With what they inherited and what needed to be replaced they are doing all right. All of the signed players seem to be an upgrade on what left. Wage budget seems to be under control and we are not wasting the cash we are spending.

They are pretty much doing everything we have asked for, for the past 3 years and yet we are still complaining.

Hope 4 more players join tomorrow and we can have a great last day of the transfer window unlike previous years.

Selling players is definitely something we need to get better at. We seem to command rubbish fees, and maybe that contributed to why we hung on to Lenihan, Nyambe and Rothwell for too long in the end. I find it incredible that nobody has been willing to take a punt on Brereton yet at 15-20 million all things considered.

I’m still really pissed off that we only got £3 million for Raya. That’s criminal really. Wasn’t helped by our then manager publicly running him down and dropping him for Leutweiler (who is now on the bench for Oldham in the Conference while Raya is a full Spanish international). There are other examples, Cairney a glaring one.

Combination of a poor board who struggle negotiating, and a lingering reputation as a basket case club must contribute to this.

Are you serious phili?

Lenihan, Van Hecke, Rothwell and Nyambe have been replaced and upgraded?

Wage budget under control? Really?

You're in for a rude awakening if we go with what we've got right now, the relegation thread will be resurrected and I'll be doing it.

Van Hecke wasn't our player.

Hyam looks to be every bit as good if not better than Lenihen.

Brittain is better than Nyambe in my opinion and I was a fan of Nyambe.

Rothwell il give you but apart from last season he hardly assisted and never scored.Overrated
