Regarding the first match, sounds like Rovers had a lot of shots but couldn’t score. I wouldn’t be surprised if that carries on into the season if we don’t sign a few players.

It’s a friendly, he’s lacking match sharpness.

Those are two excuses we could attribute to Gallagher but we know we’d be kidding ourselves.

You've been had.  We were all talking about signings from Malmo, Cantwell, etc...GB big time DOF knows loads of players...JDT champions league contacts etc...

And now you are promoting a starting midfield 2 of Travis and Buckley, who aren't good enough to get us promote, and the bench full of kids who only win leagues because the big teams send their lads out on loan to places like our first team....you need to give your head a wobble.

Absolutely. I remember watching Joe Nuttall on his first few apearances and thinking he had everything in his bag to be a top centre forward, sadly he quickly fizzled out though.

You think we need to have these on the bench for championship promotion?  The strength of the bench will decide who gets promote.  Sorry I think we are getting into the realms of silly season if you think the 23s are going to help us up this season.  Anything less than 8th is a disaster 

The bar has been set low, Sparks, very low, unfortunately. We know where the blame for that ultimately lies. The underlying theme is "forget promotion" and you can see it among some of our fans.

Relying on these kids will see us relegated.

Really? At what level? Even in L1 he was agricultural at best.

It’s not forget promotion at all…it’s just not world ending of it doesn’t happen…Sorry to disappoint but there’s a good chance it may not happen…Rome wasn’t built in a day.

No, it took about a 1,000 years and ended in complete collapse, so sounds about right for this regime.

Yes it probably was in division 1, I'm sure he made his debut as a sub and scored then scored 3 in four games or something like that and was really giving it his all... But like i said he did very quickly fizzle out after those initial apearances and became a really invective player

Far too risky.

You could say the same if we signed  midfielders, and something happened to them. At least think positive. We have two good home-grown central midfielders, with two competent (although young ) back-ups.

Well yes, if you had four first team central midfielders and all four got injured, a lot of clubs would be then looking to youth. 

But academy lads with not a minute of first team football as your only central midfielders outside Travis and Buckley?

That isn’t a professional approach to highly competitive Championship football.

We’d be going into the season with David McGoldrick knocking them down for Stefan Mols in your world so I don’t know why we’re dreaming of the Premier League here.

I didn't watch yesterdays game so I of course take your word that the pair impressed.

But you are making gigantic conclusions based on a 60 minute friendly at the very start of pre-season against a changed Stanley side. 

You cannot possibly state with such assertiveness that they are "good enough players" at Championship level at this stage. If they prove not to be quite ready then you are in a position whereby you could need to keep playing them if either/both of the main 2 (Buckley himself hasn't proved himself deeper in first team football) even if they are struggling.

Even if you had one or both of them around the squad, we would still need a couple ahead of them, they will get game time if they are good enough or failing that, send either/both out loan like with Carter and Wharton, get a better temporary replacement and if they do well, get them back in a year and then put them in with something to back it up.

You mention promotion implying that it isn't a realistic target or something to be strived for. Let's not put all of our eggs in the one basket of expecting kids with no senior experience to both instantly settle and thrive.

I did notice that Edun had 7 on his training kit so I suspect that is a genuine change. I have noticed in the past that youngsters without numbers temporarily take the ones that are vacated during pre-season so not convinced they will stay that way,

Although they were friendlies yesterday I saw little evidence of what we were told how Tomasson likes to play. There were some suggestions that he liked a back four with a pressing game. I saw neither yesterday. Hopefully he has more than one way of playing and given the plethora of centre backs yesterday and lack of midfielders his hand could have been forced.

I think we absolutely need another two experienced players in CM (especially if we plan to play any sort of 3 man midfield), but Travis and Buckley absolutely are good enough to start for a playoff contending side. 

I've no issue with Wharton / Garrett et al being the 5th man off the bench for the odd game / 30 minute cameo.

I think it's the more the fact he had to play with a back 5, and doesn't have the personnel yet available to him.

It was a five when we were defending but going forward we played with wing backs. And in truth none of them were particularly convincing.
