Reading that we’re lucky to have him. What an apprenticeship he’s had.  He sounds like a brilliant bloke. Feet on the ground but with his head in the clouds. A difficult act to pull off.

I've loved everything about Tomasson so far and long may that continue, says and does all the right things, an impressive resume to back it up. One thing I have picked up on is that he is adept at playing the media and handling them very well. He seems to be one step ahead of questions, can come up with a smart response in inteviews and is no fool. I remember watching an interview of his after Malmo had played Juventus in the Champions League and I detected a whiff almost of arrogance (in the good sense) in the way he handled the media.

But at the end of the day he is the 'head coach' and he's always quick to remind us of that - he shouldn't be integral to the success or future of the club - the structure and setup should see to that.

So if he ultimately turns out to be a dud, or if he gets a better offer from elsewhere, or if he gets fed up after a couple of years and leaves it isn't the end of the world, we task Broughton with finding another one, rather than persisting on easy street for 5 years with Mr Unsackable in the dugout.

Most of the good stuff - the academy, the development of good players, the investment, the signings, the backroom staff - should keep going year on year regardless of who the head coach is - I think this is key.

Importantly his appointment has shown for those doubters out there that this is an attractive club, that good coaches from across Europe - JDT, Carvalhal, Farke - will be interested and will come here and manage in the Championship. This is the market we need to be looking at moving forward no more overpromoting coaches, no more scrapheap appointments

No more of this 'lets never sack a manager because we can't possibly do better' which we were hearing last season. Even the Mowbray worshippers are starting to acknowledge that things are looking good and have now resorted to crediting him with laying the foundations.

Great post and I agree with all it says, and endorse the management style that JDT is adopting & appreciate the knowledge of other posters about where it comes from, how it ut implemented & how it breeds confidence & togetherness.

I also however think the last paragraph was unnecessary. Can we not just appreciate JDT without denigrating TM and his "worshippers"? It's not a fair comparison for a start. The core of your post is how the structure is better, with JDT being just a part of that and who is effectively replaceable if he leaves or is poached. TM didn't have the benefit of that structure, he was not able just to concentrate on being head coach, he had to wear other hats too. Imagine the grief he would've got when asked about transfers if he'd replied "the club is working hard, you'll have to ask Steve."

Also, the concern about who TM would be replaced with was entirely legitimate. It's widely accepted that the club was going down a different, long & winding path to appointing someone else until Gregg came on board. At least someone within the club realised it's structure needed improving.

TM had taken us as far as he could. I was up for him leaving last summer, and he undoubtedly overstayed his welcome. But had he done we wouldn't have appointed GB or JDT.  Overall TM did a very good job in helping bring the club back from the brink of oblivion and re-establishing some pride in difficult circumstances IMO, and was the major part in putting us in a position to be seen as an attractive project with solid foundations in the eyes of a young, up & coming ambitious head coach to pick up & run with under a new, fresh, modern and pro-active management structure.

Seems like a very random worry. Even if those finishes happen, I doubt Newcastle with their millions would opt for a Championship manager based partially on an unsuccessful loan spell over 20 years ago.

Interesting that his first conversation was with Suhail, even more interesting to hear Suhail now has a job title. Don’t let him get too involved, Gregg. 

I'm sure that people will back the manager, Rovers fans are at times by some painted as a particularly impatient and negative group which has always been nonsensical. 

At the end of the day, if we lose a few on the bounce, a bit of frustration will simmer, that will always happen and it is unrealistic to expect otherwise because we all want the team to win but he definitely has peoples backing.

What struck me after beating WBA was the difference in the 2 managers. Wba have an excellent squad that has cost a lot of money to assemble. Yes they are missing a main focal point striker at the moment, but we had men out at the back.

However we managed to prevail, largely because or how much better a manager I think JDT is compared to Bruce. Bruce is stale, old fashioned, makes excuses, says the same soundbites. JDT on the other hand is young, progressive, attention to detail, enthusiastic and is demanding of the players.

I truly believe that if the roles had been reversed (ie Bruce managed us and JDT Wba) that they would have battered us today.

Wba may still go up, but it will be in spite of Bruce as opposed to because of him.

Yeah I must admit I have been surprised at the quality of the finishing. We haven’t created much but the goals for column looks healthy and every goal has been a peach

I mentioned that yesterday Andy. Most have been from outside or on the edge of the box. No penalties yet or goals from free kicks neither.

Just listened to JDT's interview on RoversTv on the upcoming Reading game.  Just can't help but love this guy.  What a breath of fresh air.

You know I have seen Broughton take a few swipes regarding lack of incomings, however I think JDT will prove to be the most important signing he will make.  Pulling this guy in from left field will prove to be a masterstroke, early signs would indicate. Of course we have to see how he does after the famous Souness "punch on the nose" and I am sure if things keep going this way other managers will place more emphasis on trying to best him.  If he can keep mixing it up it will be hard for others to figure him out.

Early early days and we have seen many times that teams starting out well can be bottom in a few weeks.  Looking promising.  Fear us if he does well and just misses promotion he will be stolen by a prem team. For that reason we need to go up this season or he will be Ten Haags replacement lol. Long may the GB/JDT revolution continue.  It's fun and exciting again.

Massive learning curve for JDT and his gang tonight in a few levels but it was always going to happen.

This is the Championship and anyone can beat anyone especially early doors as we;ve shown ourselves.

Really enjoying JDT as head coach, like a breath of fresh air into the club. As much as I'm greatfull to TM for the job he did overall, it had gone stale.

I believe most of the roster can keep us close to playoff places this season. But Tomasson needs to bend Broughton’s ear… if we are serious about being promotion contenders, defensive reinforcements are needed, and right now.
