You missed a step - the players will be sold with his agreement based on an an understanding that he can reinvest the money to improve the squad…

When the “hand grenade” is chucked in with 5 days of the window left then maybe he will run… (unless, like JDT, they demand payment to release him from his contract

Podcast with JDT: Everyday life in Blackburn

I don´t know if anyone still interested, but I decided to take the chance.

I have just listend to a Danish podcast with Jon and Troels Bech - Troels is a former coach, and it is like a coach to coach talk, the podcast was published on 23. october 2023. Don´t know how I missed it then, but I did. 

This podcast is so interesting on so many levels.

JDT talks about the difference in coaching/being the leader in England and in Scandinavia and Holland. He is used to everybody in the staff speaking their mind and being critical, and is used to a more democratic way of leadership. In England, the boss is the boss, and if he says "turn left" everybody turn left.  Remy and Ben Rosens tasks were, amongst many other things, to be critical and voice it to Jon. He talks about the hard time getting fans and players used to a new style of playing, and how he dealt with it.

I think Remy has been very anonymous, but JDT said: "Dutch people are so critical, saying it as it is, and never shut up" 🙂

He is so well spoken and even more so in his native language. He talks about his visions and ambitions, his care, love and pride for the youth department, and how proud he is of the fact that all Youth departments are now playing the style he wants for the first team. He is so passionate and devoted.

He praises the staff, and talks about all their different tasks. Personally I am chocked about the amount of staff members - almost more staff than first team players 🙂 He had 3 ass. coaches, a keeper coach and ass, keeper coach, a physical coach and 2 ass., 3 video analytics, 4 young lads from University who helps with the video analytics, 4 physiotherapists, and then there is the recruitment team, which he is not in charge of. He talks about hour long meetings  with staff and players and a 24/7 job.

He also talks a lot about the supporters, how much he admires the passion and the love for their club,  how much money they spend for tickets, travelling etc., and how important it is to show respect and pay something back to them. He has studied the culture and history of way of living in Blackburn, not just the football aspect of it. He talks with so much respect for fans, players and staff. 

He said, that it came as a chock in the summer, that the budget had been cut. He was told the day before he was to return from his summer holiday, By then Rovers had already let 13 players leave in the hope to sign a lot of new players, which didn´t happen.

The podcast is 1 hour, and this is just a very short summary. He talks about lots of other tings, i.e about handling the media, the expectations and pressure, and about when it it doesn´t go as planned.

I know, I am biased, but I really think that JDTs departure is a great loss. Imagine what it could have been like, if Venkys hadn´t cut the budget - he would have taken Rovers to PL.

I am sure, the new coach is good and will do his his best - but from my point of view, there is a great difference in the level of ambition between the two coaches.

And for you, Callum Brittain, have you ever heard of hybris and nemesis?

Confirms a lot of what I already believed to be the case. JDT is a class act. Ultimately, he was failed by the club and not the other way round. If he had got what he wanted in the summer, 'the project' would have continued and I believe eventually he would have got us to the PL.

I also agree and feel like we have downgraded with Eustace. Nothing against him, of course he would take the job. He should be honored to. He has a minute fraction of JDTs pedigree and standing in the game and strikes me as a bit of a standard journeyman football coach. He is less articulate in his interviews that JDT and uses cliché after cliché, its horrible to listen to - particularly in the knowledge he is towing the party line; togetherness bla bla bla. It is dumbing down of expectations and a regression in my view.

The problem was never the manager, it was the owners and those charlatans who lied and broke promises. I was extremely excited at the end of last season.

What could, and should, have been.

The club have blown it big style with him all he needed was similar backing to Mowbray and i firmly believe we'd be far better off this season.

It wouldn't have been without flaws that style of football can cause it's own problem but being allowed to add a couple more the calibre of Tronsdat would have helped immensly.

He and we have been royally shafted by the continuing stupid ownership and the ambitionless pairing of Waggot and shadow who now seem to have a vice like grip on the club.

We needed to think out the box, needed something a bit different and a new culture at the club after the steady but dour previous regime.  They found it, they blew it.

It saddens me how poorly he was treated in the Summer of 23. It's telling that he let thirteen players go and had plans to replace them when his budget was slashed. I suppose it was inevitable at that point that the best manager we have had in over thirteen years wouldn't see his contract out.

The fact he's had all his best players taken away and replaced with shite, if replaced at all.

Luckily there are none of these "excuses" with the new fella, he must just be a shit manager.

Personally I don't think losing to Big Club and drawing with Preston is anywhere near good enough.

For all JDTs failings at least he was honest in saying he hadn't been given the tools he needed for the job. The new fella says he has. So why the fuck didn't we win these two games then?
