Selling our best youngster and midfielder or our best keeper will really get him keen to stay! If even Venkys let it be reinvested which history suggests wouldnt be the case.

Every time a sell on fee has been activated, it has gone to running costs.

JDT has already dropped Kaminski, and selling Adam Wharton for 20 million would allow JDT to bring in 4 or 5 quality players to improve the overall squad and improve the overall quality. Similar to Brentford did or Norwich under Webber/Farke when they sold Maddison and Murphy then used some of the money to improve the overall quality in the squad

You've been pretty adamant for months that we did the right thing by not selling Brereton, but now you're seemingly of the opinion that we should sell Wharton.

Ignoring for a second that most of that £20m will just be swallowed up by the club's running costs, why would you sell AW for only £20m when he's on a 5 year contract? Phil Jones was sold for £17m in 2011 and I'd be using that plus the last 12 years player inflation as a starting position.

B'ham got done with the Bellingham price, even though they got close to £30m...3 years later he's going to fetch closer to £130m. Apparently Brum have only got a 5% sell-on.  

Clubs can start the bidding at £40m for Wharton, with a 20% sell-on...and he gets a new X-box every 6 months as part of that deal.

Joao Pedro has just been sold to Brighton for £30million. He's talented but is he really that good?

We can all see what Whartons trajectory will be. £30 - £40million is the lowest amount that we should even begin talking to other clubs. You see Real Madrid doing it all the time with Brazilian clubs. They'll buy their young stars for anywhere between £30 to £70 million. 

We're not little old Blackburn Rovers who should be grateful for any offers. We've got a potential superstar in our ranks. Other clubs can absolutely do one if they think they can come in and low ball us. Even if Wharton doesn't fulfill his potential he's clearly a Premier League standard player. The going rate for any player at that level isn't far off £20million anyway so that amount of money is fairly risk free for a Premier League club.

Just because it's a lot of money to us, doesn't mean we should all of a sudden start accepting well below market value. I don't care if we could rebuild our squad for £20million. We could rebuild far better for £40million. If nobody wants to pay that, then that's fine. When he shoots us to the Premier League they'll have to cough up £80million once he shows the world what we all know he is capable of.

How many more times does it have to be explained that any fee for Wharton (or any player for that matter) is highly likely to go towards the club's running costs, and not be reinvested in other players?

He is currently worth 4 or 5 times what we got for AA. His value will only ever increase injuries permitting.

I love Adam Wharton as much as the next person, but let’s not forget Bellingham was the best player on the pitch almost every week for Birmingham and was younger than Adam. Adam needs another successful 12 months to be a 25M footballer.
