If there’s one shining light out of that lot being far and away the best team in the league with an exciting team and manager,  it’s knowing their kryptonite is saying they bought the league after years of peppering us over it.

Still, at least we bought the big league.

I remember the first time we were relegated back in 99. The first few months of the season, as I sat in the Darwen End where away supporters were segregated from us by a barrier, all I could hear from away supporters was vitriol directed to the home fans such as 'you're shit' etc. The hatred in their eyes just because we had jack walker's money was palpable

@Dreams of 1995 Just chirping in to commend you on a superbly articulated argument. We all know it's a rigged system but I really enjoyed reading the additional info you included around the comparative growth levels of the Championship vs the Premier League and how closely those dates coincided with FFP. Reading that discussion was a throwback to what brfcs used to be (no dig intended at the current overlords. You're all doing a great job).

The only one bit I can add..... Burnley have definitely bought the league

Once again Burnley doing a tuppence worth imitation of the mighty Rovers, this time by spending big to win a league title. Only its a second tier title.

If you're going to buy a trophy, at least buy a good one.

It’s like getting a free pass to steal from the Trafford Centre and deciding to rob from Next.

Burnley fans are starting to challenge Liverpool fans for the world is against us title! If you are bringing a Daily Mail headline to a debate you are starting 1-0 down I'm afraid.

Enjoy a season of beating tin cans, the standard in the league is dire, which as you'll be aware as a frequent visitor to this site we have said for years and not just because Burnley are doing well.

The relegated teams have a massive advantage, no question. The rest of the Championship teams are dire in comparison, no question.

To balance the argument a little though regarding Kompany....

He's basically had to put a whole new side together. Yes, this is far, far easier with money to spend, but he still had to find players to blend together into a cohesive unit. Is this really any different to what Kenny did to get us promoted?

Could Kompany have done this without the level of spend he's made? Most likely, not.  But he deserves some credit for what he's done.

I was going to share the Alex Crook diatribe -

Maybe I should have done as I do share your disgust in The Daily Heil and all the other right wing media types and gammon we have in this nation of ours. Severly dislike Talk Sh*ite as well though.

Can't be bothered watching this as I too have no time for Talk Sh*te. I think the argument you're benefiting from a rigged system, one that has become gradually more and more bent over time is a valid one.

Burnley have however done well. Some smart purchases, clearing out of average players on high wages. The rigged system enables this but there is credit due. There's even an argument relegation has been a good thing as its allowed the club to hit reset.

Prior to the season I had some raised eyebrows around how the club would faire, mainly due to the change in ownership. But they'd obviously done their homework in the recruitment department as by and large the money has been well spent and you now have a number of players with the potential to increase in value. As well as Dyche did for you the change in style must be refreshing.

So credit where its due. But you're still buying the league 😉

Very much so. With so many players out of contract any kind of rebuild in the PL would have been very difficult, perhaps financially impossible.

100%, the last few seasons of Dyche were painful and perhaps things had their course. I don't really blame Dyche, he just "cut his cloth", the previous board who built up 60/70 million in the bank rather than strengthen when we were doing well, they killed it.

Yes I agree. I’m extremely grateful for Dreams of 1995 for putting into words and numbers what most of us thought all along but lacked the mental capacity to analyse the issue to any degree. It’s been a very revealing debate.

Also this vitriol over Burnley and their wages.

You must have been fuming at the side who spent £8 million on Jordan Rhodes and gave £40k a week deals to Danny Murphy and Etuhu a few years ago now.

Remind me again who that was?

Brenty, when you're enjoying the minibus parade in May, I hope you remember how it came about. A promotion bought for you by parachute payments. We all know you would be mid table this season without those.

Any organisation that employs Simon Jordan just to make Jim White appear partially normal needs to be viewed with just a tad of scepticism.

Disagree. Jim White is a bellend.  Jordan is one of few who talks sense on that show

If it helps they've spent £30m buying an entirely new team that simply won't be good enough for the PL. They'll have to spend double that to stay up.

Honestly the rest of the Championship doesn't have a pot to piss in.

There's a reason they're queuing round the block for the chance to take the next PL youngster on loan. The football pyramid is broken, unfortunately.
