I'm glad Broughton and JDT have accepted that he isn't good enough even after hanging their hats on the bizarre 'number one target all summer' quote. There's nothing wrong with admitting a mistake, in fact there's a lot wrong with refusing to.

Tony Mowbray springs to mind at the last sentence.

Agree 100%.

Appalling decision to sell him. And before anybody starts claiming we had to because he wanted to go, well that was due in no small part to the way he was treated by Mowbray and Venus, and a pathetic contract offer. Remember when he got dropped for Leutweiler, who is now third choice for Oldham in the conference.

Any sell on fee will just disappear into the Venky void, so it’s little consolation.

He was thrown under the bus when we had a sticky patch that was 100% obvious by 'saint' Tony.  When there was arse covering to do he was no different than any other manager.

Real bollock dropped with this lad although admittedly he needed to iron stuff out of his game but he needed a good keeper to compete with. He was at the time training with Steele who was shit and a rookie keeper coach, no wonder he wanted out.

He was capable of making really jaw dropping saves. Only the top keepers can pull those off. Then to replace him with Walton was the final insult.

Repeated public criticism… the best one was when Mowbray really bitterly came out and said “He thinks he can play Premier League football one day… we’ll see.”

I’ve also been told specific examples about how both Raya and Nyambe were treated. I can’t elaborate on here and break a confidence, but they’d constitute work place bullying in any other environment. I know I can’t expect anyone else to take that as gospel, but I believe their treatment played a big part in their wanting to leave, along with their contracts.

Miller, you are 100% correct about both players. I have also heard similar stories from people WHO KNOW, but i will not break confidences.

Weve got four pretty decent albeit young central midfielders who can be used interchangeably (Morton, Buckley, Garett, Adam Wharton). We only have one centreforward - Gallagher, who has also had a lot of injury issues.

Id say the priority is going to be a number 9

If we can only have one player it has to be a striker. However am I being greedy in asked for a centre midfield player also ?  They need to be starters not bench fillers.

Playing devil's advocate here, was this our choice or Leicester's?

I can only think the arrangement suited us, Leicester, Ipswich and George Hirst, as IMO it benefits all of us. Even if it didn't come from within Rovers, I can't imagine we put up much of a fight about it. If we rated him, he'd have been playing more, and Leicester would have been much happier with him getting a decent amount of games at this level than League One.

A mutal all round agreement that depended on Ipswich i'd say.

In his Ipswich interview he says he “heard about Ipswich’s interest”. There’s no way that a League One club starts actively chasing a 3rd in the league Championship striker unless they’ve been given the heads up we’re at least open to him leaving, at best actively pushing for it.

But yes, I’d suggest we didn’t want him, Leicester wanted him playing and Ipswich want him. Good going all round. Let’s see if GB can get it right second time.

We appear to be goosed for a lone striker when Gallagher is injured. Vale and Hirst don't have the build to play in that role. Brereton Diaz appears to be favoured in the wide forward role, not just by the incumbent Head Coach. However, bringing in a lone striker, whether it's as cover for Gallagher or to start ahead of him, feels like an expensive and difficult task that we won't undertake. I really think we need to, though.

At minimum there should be competition. Currently there is none. When he’s fit he’s one of the first names on the sheet.

I don’t think JDT suffers anything or anyone. Everyone seems to be falling in line…

My bet is that he’s had a VERY straight but respectful chat with Hirst and GB. Basically said he wants rid and we’ve gone back to Leicester, told them the craic so they’ve gone out and found him another club.

Yeah... JDTs been pretty ruthless. Everyone apart from Kaminski, Hyam and Morton have been dropped at one time or another.

Does feel a meritocracy though. Players previously frozen out who have performed well have come back and got regular starts (JRC, Dack, Garrett, Buckley).

Only players who look a bit hard done by to me are Markanday and Adam Wharton. Both I would have thought would have more minutes by now and when they play they look decent... Must be some off the field stuff.

I take your point, young and talented lads as they are I don’t think any are “top six” quality. We’re crying out for an experienced solid presence in the middle of the park, although I fully agree another striker should be high on the list.

Anyone any ideas at all on who we could be looking at to replace Hirst? Jamal Lowe from Bournemouth on loan is the only name that springs to mind for me.

I know we were linked at one point to Ross Stewart at Sunderland, good player but how much will he cost? Ellis Simms also recalled by Everton from Sunderland, he’d be a great signing also although I don’t know what his situation is and why Everton recalled him early.

Wharton and Markanday both need(ed) to improve defensively/tactically. Thought Wharton would get a start today though.

Simms played for Everton didn’t he so the only place he’ll be going is back to Sunderland or staying at Everton I would think.
