Anyone any ideas at all on who we could be looking at to replace Hirst? Jamal Lowe from Bournemouth on loan is the only name that springs to mind for me.

I know we were linked at one point to Ross Stewart at Sunderland, good player but how much will he cost? Ellis Simms also recalled by Everton from Sunderland, he’d be a great signing also although I don’t know what his situation is and why Everton recalled him early.

Everton are panicking and needs goals, not much more to it mate! He can’t play for another club anyway after playing for Everton earlier in the season.

I don’t think JDT suffers anything or anyone. Everyone seems to be falling in line…

My bet is that he’s had a VERY straight but respectful chat with Hirst and GB. Basically said he wants rid and we’ve gone back to Leicester, told them the craic so they’ve gone out and found him another club.

A similar thing happened with Mowbray and Leighton Clarkson. Shite player loaned, in nobodys interest to stay collecting dust so sent back.

Same thing happened with that Rakeem Harper. Another Mowbray success story.

How long to that kid Palmer hang around ?

JDT/GB dropped a bollock in the summer with this one. We are fortunate Leicester were willing to take him back and another club was interested in bringing him in. I can accept that both JDT and Broughton had limited time in the summer, though, and hopefully this is a lesson learned. Probably won't be lucky enough for lightning to strike twice and for Mola to also be recalled, but one dreadful signing off the books is better than none.

If we are serious about promotion( I think we somewhat are) then we need at least 2 pieces to come in this window maybe even more. The clubs right below us can arguably upgrade more efficiently than we can if you will and we need to do something ourselves to keep up.

Interesting few weeks ahead but yes as others have said, a striker should be the top priority.

Yeah... JDTs been pretty ruthless. Everyone apart from Kaminski, Hyam and Morton have been dropped at one time or another.

Does feel a meritocracy though. Players previously frozen out who have performed well have come back and got regular starts (JRC, Dack, Garrett, Buckley).

Only players who look a bit hard done by to me are Markanday and Adam Wharton. Both I would have thought would have more minutes by now and when they play they look decent... Must be some off the field stuff.

I think, on the face of it you can probably add Ash Phillips to Markanday and Adam Wharton in the group that appears to have been hard done to…but in context, have they really? Would they have played the games they have under Mowbray, or any other manager this season?

The only one of that age group who has broken through is Garrett and that appears to be partially down to necessity, due to Travis poor form, and partially because he seems to be the one who is doing most of the stuff that JDT demands, as per the meritocracy you mentioned.

I really wish Vale would prove me wrong and go on a scoring run in the team.

Either way, with the lads above, plus Leonard and Batty, our future is bright.

Add a forward and CM this window and we’re going nicely. Fwiw, I have no problem with the owners valuation or stance on BBD. As fans, we know we’re better with him…so IF someone takes him then we know we’ve had top dollar. If not then the owners are willing to take the hit. Their money, their prerogative.

It isn't that simple, thanks to FFP, which puts hard limits on what we can lose. Not recouping let's say 10 million on Brereton means the budget is 10 million smaller than it can be, even if we assume Venkys are willing to cover it.

Agree with all of that except signing a midfielder. If we sign an experienced player we will take a huge chunk of playing time away from our developing players. Assuming Morton keeps his place as looks likely it could mean Garrett, Wharton, Buckley all get virtually nothing for the rest of the season. Also not a sniff for Travis to re-establish himself.

I think between the young players we will hit the required standard. Also Dack has improved a lot in terms of dropping in and making a three in midfield which is what is really needed.

JDT gives a bit of a transfer update, nothing major really - but again the "money issue" was mentioned.
Sounds like we're dealing in peanuts here, would probably be wise to not expect any major signings this window folks.

Unless we sell BBD of course... but then again, would we even be able to spend the funds?

Typical Chicken Chokers, all smoke and mirrors. It like me asking you to go out and buy me a new television. When you ask me “ how much can I spend” - I say “ I don’t know, it all depends on wether I can sell my car “.

Crackers.

Its very rare a club makes a significant permanent signing in January. Unless you have a lot of money.
Who’s  going to let a key asset go midway through a season?

It will be a loan or 2 however, like I’ve said many of times, we need to get a move on or there won’t be any available. Clubs are getting loans in now and probably had them in mind before the windows opened. Us on the otherhand…

That and it puts paid to the idea we have any kind of 'model' that involves developing youngsters and then selling them on for big profit to further reinvest in the team to eventually achieve promotion in a sustainable way. If we're just going to let players' contracts run down, as happened with Nyambe, Lenihan, Rothwell and probably BBD, or sell them cheap as we did with the likes of Raya and Cairney, we might as well just buy players who are ready to impact the team now rather than players who take years to make their mark. If we end up making zero or barely above zero on them anyway then it doesn't really matter whether they're young, in their prime or in their twilight years. You'd just be aiming for players who can come in and do a job now if there's no serious plan to sell at the right time and reinvest the funds.

Armstrong is increasingly seeming like a one off rather than an example of what we're trying to do.

If they refuse to sign contracts we aren't letting the contracts run down. They are.

They were all offered contracts.

It hardly matters really, as we are being told that is the model to being sustainable.

They need to have a long hard look at what they are offering, as we are almost certainly going to see the next batch do exactly the same otherwise. Unless, I am missing something of course.

If they're not realistic offers in the view of the player then what's the relevance?

All the 'talent' is under contract for the next 3/4/5 years. Venky's now need to let JDT/GB make the decisions about who to sign and who to sell. In hindsight, refusing to sell Rothwell was a mistake.

The next batch being Adam and Scott Wharton, Ash Phillips, Trav, Kaminski, Buckley not to mention new signings Hyam, Brittain that all signed deals on these insulting offers...?

Selling BBD objectively leaves us with less chance of a playoff place. I don't understand what logic anyone who wants to sell him can possibly be applying. The budget's won't increase and in order to replace his goals, it would cost more than we bring in for him.

Talk of Gyokeres (not even the same position) when the guy's valued at £18million!!!
