Had a look on the forums. Seems Paul Ince is not playing him (I mean Ince forced out Brad Friedel so if he's pushing you out maybe that's an endorsement?) Plus they've got a couple of big name big salary target men - Andy Carroll, Shane Long - so can see why Joao's being let go...

No hint on the forums about attitude or anything. Seems perfect to me.

Now I'd take Andy Carroll all day long. Sorba Thomas's crosses would be a recipe for success

João would be ideal imo but I do fear as someone else pointed out that he won't be considered due to age and wages. He is just gone 29, hardly over the hill. Don't like the fairly rigid plan we appear to have on focusing purely on youth and resale. If you get enough of those right then the cost of the João's of this world will seem quite minimal.

Who did we sign last January?

Signed a few, looked good in theory, didn't come off. Mowbray fell out with Giles and the Dutch RB who looked promising on paper turned out to be an injury prone dud.

The main area in which we went wrong was in not prioritising a goalscorer and we appear to be repeating the mistake this time round.

Is that true? I always thought Friedel forced the move due to his unfortunate financial problems?

I believe he would've nevertheless stayed if Ince weren't manager.

If posters think Gallagher is frustrating, Joao would cause a bigger meltdown than usual, then again he scores against us all the time, could be something in this madness Bigbar 😉

I've read it all now. So according to you, the job of this army of 15 is to identify players who theoretically might possess the qualities we require but who we can't afford?

What's the point in that? Surely they need to be identifying players who would be of benefit who we can afford?

Maybe you should look at it this way. This is the first time since they have taken over that we have got the scouting and analysis departments back to where they were before Venky's took over.

Setting these things up takes time and also working out the data models for what you want also takes time.

By doing all this, if we do get new owners in the next couple of years or if Venky's invest to get us promoted then we will be better prepared to spend the cash.

Behind the scenes we will have spoken to all of the players agents who will have said they are interested in joining at this wage. If more clubs join the race the wage requirement increases, which seems to be the issue, we haven't any wage flex to increase to match the other clubs.

With Undav it seems he backs himself to get into the Brighton team now and is happy to probably sit on the bench than playing regular first team football. Not a lot we can do about that.

We've landed Sorba Thomas, a player who if he'd gone to Preston, people would've been questioning our lack of initiative to get him ourselves.

Lucas Joao is being offered around everywhere by his agent and is free to go. If Reading don't want him and the agent can't find him a club then how great is he?

OK. Just to clarify:-

Huddersfield reject - good

Reading reject - bad

Joao's goal scoring rate for Reading blows Sam Gallagher's out of the water. I know who I would rather have up front.

How do you know whether you can afford them until you bid/offer terms ?

In that particular instance it would appear we've put the majority of our eggs in the basket of a player who doesn't particularly want to come here and a Club who aren't particularly keen to let him go either.

Sharpe has suggested Brighton are messing about - possibly because they want to use him in their Cup game. I don't think there's any suggestion that Undav doesn't want to come here.

We’d have a lot more options if we’d have sold BBD for 8.8M in summer like I recommended. Can’t moan now that we don’t have any money when we turned down enough to buy a good winger and striker. Just saying.

Nail on head.

If you've a limited budget then you wheel and deal.

Broughton should have successfully managed upwards on this issue.  If the Venky's said no then he should have fecked off as clearly wasting his time here.

Indeed, any job that involves “ responsibility without power “ isn’t worth having for long.

Wonder why? I’d take him!

Don't get very many strikers coming from that league that do well. Maybe he doesn't fancy becoming another one of these that ends up in league two in 3 seasons time?

Remember for investment signings such as Rhodes, Venky's were raising finance for these offering a guaranteed 100% return if a player is sold. I don't know if they did for BBD but would explain their insistence on not selling for less than X.

So unless we received offers above £10m we would have had a reduced budget in the summer if we had sold.

I think Kaminski was a good signing. Can’t say I’d heard of him!
Dack is another good one - I hadn’t heard much of him

And let’s be honest, had we not had dickhead owners and managed to flip BBD for 15-20m it would have been a good bit of business

Adam Armstrong was a good bit of business, but you could see that coming

I think they’re doing okay, but we could do better in getting targets from abroad a la Tommy K

But “never” is a big word

Apart from Kaminski all the other players you mention were TM's own recommendations.

This is all unsurprising, Broughton said that we wouldn't be doing much business in January months ago. He's sticking to his plan.

That was my mindset on the matter, although Tomasson's comments in his press conference suggest we are after another couple of incoming signings. The priority is a striker.

I think Thomas is a good signing. We need pace and assists, and hopefully he'll do exactly what it says on the tin.
