Because he's not a legal expert and could phrase something in a way that could be misconstrued if quoted in the appeal. It's common to not go into details publicly before a legal case for this kind of reason.

Although basically saying “we don’t expect to win the appeal’ wasn’t very clever either. Came across to me as saying to the fans and the other parties “this is not going to happen” whilst making sure they can say “we’ve done all we can”.

If those are the reasons for registration rejection then a competent lawyer will bury the EFL.

Problem being is that the EFL are a law unto themselves with no accountability to anyone.

In front of a jury of our peers we would win.

Those are the reasons we’ve leaked but there will  be more too it I’m sure. Otherwise that would be absolutely shocking by the EFL.

Plus Nixon talks shite and I’m disappointed the normally interesting front page articles are now the tubby tabloidman’s scribbling.

More on having the deals lined up, undav changing his mind, and lorient changing their mind last min. No point getting one in for the sake of it, look at hirst.

I dont get how the unsuccessful deals can be put down to misfortune when the successful ones arent.

Pretty simple to me, I judge on what is actually done and what isnt done, and poor so far.

Yes, I think you're right.

It's quite unusual for me to be looking for reasons to save the fuckwits of Ewood. It feels quite weird.

One reason it may not be true is why brierley also didn’t go through - per Nixon it’s becuase Brierley himself didn’t tick the white British box on his form.

Two very simple and direct solutions - and they only needed to pick one:

  1. Have it proof-read before submitting;
  2. Submit it earlier.

We can start blaming the EFL, but the rules will (or should) be well-known by the responsible parties at Brockhall. We're grovelling with a futile appeal because we were unprofessional on what sounds like more than one front. That's basically it. I've got no sympathy with those responsible at Ewood for signing players, including Broughton. Waggott can go in that bucket, too.

I'm almost certain JDT feels the same way judging by his restrained and frustrated interview on RoversTV.

Tyler Morton must be delighted at what has happened.

I have to say that I have found Nixon's detailed info on this debacle useful, he seems to have an insider source again ..... Or he's just talking shite which is more than possible.

Addendum from Nicko.

If that is the case (and anything from Nicko needs to be taken with a huge pinch of salt), then the EFL looks as though it's being unreasonable with a) its relegation clause and b) pedantic with the Sharpe mis-spelling (though it should not have happened)

A top legal eagle would have a good argument with the EFL if this information is correct

It's like an air crash investigation. There appear to have been multiple faults and events. It starts with doing a deal on deadline day, which is leaving it until the last minute in anyone's book, to proof-reading the paperwork before it is submitted.

Having the medicals done in Manchester is yet another thing - a detour, and by the sounds of it, a dining distraction. Why can't the medicals be done at Brockhall or nearby? If you take just one of the many elements in play on the day - preparation, complacency, logistics, checking papers, etc. - then we would be sat here talking about a decent window instead of a poor one and, worse, amateurs in positions of responsibility.

What a surprise! held in Manchester were the moneybags teams are.

'Blackburn’s bid to sign Rochdale striker Ethan Brierley failed because the youngster did not tick boxes saying he was British and white.'

They should listen to more Michael Jackson. Then they'd know 'it don't matter if you're black or white'.

If what Nixon is saying / quoted as saying is true, & there's nothing more to it, then it's a new low in jobsworthness.

Should paperwork be filled in correctly, & checked? Yes, but come on we're talking about the careers of 2 young professionals. The EFL should be hammered for that if true.

But we'll see, on both counts. There's always two sides to every story...

I actually judge transfers on whether they are successful for us on the pitch.

What's confusing me a bit is that Nicko is talking about the clarity not being provided before the 11pm deadline. But I'm sure I read something about that needing to be when the deal in principle needs to be in by and shown that all forms were completed, something like that. Then the actual full-on deadline is 1am. Now I can't remember precisely what the extra 2 hours was to resolve, but if not for fixing little pedantic issues like this, then what for? If it's true (grain of salt, Nicko, and he couldn't get the age or position of Brierley right for his article) then the EFL being pedantic bellends actually is partly to blame.

The club shouldn't be making mistakes like spelling names wrong though, or not checking all boxes were ticked. The relegation clause part is just a complete joke though if true. It's a bit like if I signed some deal to buy a house on the condition that I only do it if I win the lottery, and then they ask me whether I buy it if I go into debt.

I don’t see any chance with the O’Brien. We made errors. Where do you draw the line with leniency?

Brierley should be a very different matter though. That looks like an equality monitoring question and there’d be an easily winnable argument and an infinite amount of precedent to suggest that ticking that box cannot be mandatory.

A lot of what Broughton said in the video, about Undav for example, had appeared in the press (not sure whether they were Nixon articles though)

Rovers supporters are obviously very disappointed with the registration fiasco, but let's move onwards and upwards and give it our best shot staying in the the 6. Wigan won't be straight forward with their new manager in place, they will be out to impress their new manager. Rovers will need to be on their guard and give it 100%.

A dropped "e" ..., Flashbacks to the pre word processor age, you have to be of a certain age to know what they were, when I had a secretary who often misspelt "now" as "not" as in "would you please now not complete sign and return"

Otherwise a nice lady who made a great coffee, just meant I employed a proof reader too.

If that’s the reasons then we win an appeal with a half competent lawyer. What a farce.

In a court of law, I'd expect so yes. But I think the appeal is to the EFL themselves, so there's probably more chance of me being sucked off by my favourite pornstar by the time the appeal is done. Fingers crossed on both counts though.

Working on the assumption that Nicko has given all the reasons and its not a half truth with spin from the club I wonder if Rovers could threaten the EFL with legal action should they reject the appeal.

It's hitting the nuclear button, but if true they need to understand they are in charge of a billion pound industry and thus need to be held accountable when making random decisions / requests.

I assume the clause we had entered stated if Rovers are promoted we pay £10 million, not if Rovers are no longer in the championship next season. Legally that wording is clear and there grounds for it to be sent back.

If no one has ever succeeded with an appeal (no idea if Broughton is right on this) the why have an appeal process at all?

oh and good luck…
