v Norwich City (a) - 17/12/22

Sorry to be the negative one, but I’m not getting ahead of myself. If their manager lasts until the New Year I’ll be impressed. That was a performance of a team of players that have turned against the manager and the fans where booing from the second minute. We played well and deserved the result but there’s clearly problems at Norwich.

Superb result. Just underlines what a good manager JDT is that he is able to pick our players up after 2 disappointing results with a team selection that nobody anticipated - and get a win.

This is true, fair play

Yet they are in 5th place.

Very impressive performance today and we got a response after last week very disappointing performance.

Solid at the back and defending as a team. We played narrower and no risks/playing out from the back and played it longer. All the back 4 were very good tonight. Hyam won everything tonight. Captain performance there. maybe Travis need to learn from that now. Buckley and Morton press the ball, tackle and played some simple and tidy passes. a couple of unnecessary risks by Morton but still good overall. Look a threat going forward tonight. Rovers pressed higher and closing down quickly then previous game. Also made some tactical fouls and shown they can do the ugly side of the game.

Hyam and Buckley outstanding. JRC and Pickering played good aswell. Gallagher is very important to this team cos what he brings to this team. Dolan and Dack played well and pressed the ball at the right times tonight

Also special praise to every Rovers fan who went to Carrow Road tonight. Surprised by Norwich fans reaction to Dean Smith and them being 5th in the league

JDT's Blue and White Army!

Very comprehensive summary Chadlington, you get some stick on here but big love mate.

Dolan and Buckley have worked their socks off. Dack has played well. We look a better team four at the back than we do five. As far as I’m concerned the following are key players, the rest are up for debate…

Kaminski

Brittain Hyam ? Pickering

? ?

Gallagher ? Brereton

Dolan

A fully fit Ayala gets in there over Scott Wharton ten times out of ten.

Hell of a lot better.

Basically did what the fans have been asking for. And THAT is exactly why we've been so fucking mad, the stubbornness to not do so.

Travis I'm afraid shouldn't be anywhere near the armband again, questionable about the pitch. He at least needs some time out.

JRC deserves a special mention.

Above all else PASSION today, where the hell was it in the derby games though? I'd like to think it's been highlighted to the team how pissed off we were at the lack of it lately, or maybe it came naturally I don't know.

First time I’ve ever seen Rovers play three consecutive games on TV. I am thrilled I got to see this one. The previous two games, in tactics & selection, bore no resemblance to today. jdt must have got some guys attention, based on todays result. Great effort, all over the pitch.

I wasn’t looking forward to Cup match vs Forest; I am now. COYB!!!

Supremely happy, great performance by the team.

I can't agree with that. We were good tonight - not always in quality and decisions, but in endeavour and effort.

We made them look poor; they were a couple of points off us before this game - firmly in the top 6.

We still haven't learnt how to put games to sleep, there were some nervous moments in the 2nd half, giving the ball away far to cheaply and silly fouls in dangerous positions, until Dolan put it beyond doubt. I dont know why Dolans been sitting on the bench, given 90 minutes he's capable of winning matches. Dolan and Buckley made a big difference for me and should start against Forest in the League cup tie. Well done Rovers.

Enjoy the long journey home lads and lasses. Get a few cans for the coach!

You’ve done the club proud making that journey a week before Christmas in the cold after two derby thumpings!

Positives

- 3 points and clean sheet

- Showing some real fight and grit, especially Dolan on multiple occasions. Makes a world of difference

- Fluidity in midfield, showing we are a team without Travis slowing it down / giving it away in the middle

- Dack oozing class, especially the 15 minutes in the 2nd half

- Buckley having a strong game

- JRC pretty solid, he’s not superb but he can do a job in the squad

Negatives

- Injuries: Ayala and Gallagher and hopefully nobody else. Not ideal at all, especially as Ayala was one of the best players on the pitch.

- Diaz looking more like Brereton

- Only a sub so won’t judge too harshly but I’m not sure Szmodics is the one. Has to be seen as a squad player now rather than starting 11

Next up I’d be starting same team but Wharton for Morton (assuming Ayala is okay)

Have a good Christmas everyone and see you all on Boxing Day!

Forgot to add, I’ve gone for a Passimiento Red from Sicily, one of our favourites. Have a great evening everyone.

13 minutes in... Boooooooooo!

The last time I witnessed anything like that, we had Kean in the dugout.

Yep - I remember singing “we want Steve Kean out” in the Blackburn End before a game had started.

Absolutely ridiculous behaviour by the Norwich fans- and symptomatic of the entitlement demonstrated by too many fans in the modern era. They are 5th in the table, and have a manager who has already achieved one promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs. They should stick with Dean Smith and not listen to the clowns baying from the stands or behind their keyboards.
