Since it's getting nowhere. So i decided to dream abit positively – what if our appeal is successful by 1 March.

1 March
- officially on loan with us.

By 15 March (misses Sheff Utd and Stoke's games)
- lacking match fitness, learning how we play during first team training, probably playing some U21 games during this period.

By 30 March
– Somewhat fitter, on bench for both Reading and Burnley's games.

1 April onwards
– Fully match fit and ready. He will have 8 full league games and also a few playoff games if we made it into Top 6.

more like after the sixth appeal hearing blackburn given permission to sign 60 year old Lewis O'Brien

I wouldn't agree with that.

The lad is top quality (in this division) and would be a real difference maker.

And, at this stage of the season - with Play Offs a real possibility - that's exactly what we need.

But hopefully Wharton comes back. He has all the qualities that O'brien has

In the first team - Wharton had an unbelievable match against Blackpool followed by ok or even poor performances. O'Brien did it consistently for Huddersfield over a season. Not saying Wharton can't be that player - but IMO hasn't done it consistently yet.

Looked good against Birmingham too (goal) and Hull (lovely assist)....he has only started 6 league games this season and that's half of them listed where he's been one of the best players on the pitch, so pretty hard to find consistency with so few starts, but he has looked better than everyone else we've been served up in CM this year based on those 6 matches alone (Bristol City the only real stinker).

For me, it's a simple solution, play the two of them together! O'Brien and Wharton in the centre.

(All hypothetical as there is absolutely no chance we end up getting O'Brien)

For those saying "it's not worth it, now" - nonsense. I'd much rather have an extra player with the quality of O'Brien available for the final ten games or so than not. The minutia behind the financials could be irrelevant compared to the reward on the table.

If you're mentally fatigued by it all, put it out of mind and consider how well we've done recently when we might have expected otherwise. The club has clearly made errors, and in spite of my grievances towards them, Tomasson could still be backed with a quality player if things go our way.

He’s back fit now, training this week.

At this point I'd just like to stick with what we have and move the money to next season: start Buckley and Travis (difficult to break them up after recent performances), rotate in Garrett and A. Wharton - one of them should be getting at least 20 minutes a match. Morton can sit on the bench.

If O'Brien was the best striker in the Championship then I'd continue to pursue this arbitration as that would make a massive difference. As it is we're possibly going to sneak into the Playoffs, but we aren't winning them with our without O'Brien.

Luton over a 2 leg semi, and then MIllwall in the final.

It's hardly prime Barcelona we'd be playing.

Adam Wharton is currently injured

O'Brien is a quality player. Getting him would help improve our playoffs chances

But without a quality striker you could have Zidane and de bruyne in the team it wouldn't improve the quality of finishing

I can't see Adam Wharton playing much this season, he has put in a number of good performances (not just Blackpool, think Boro away, Birmingham home, Hull away, Stoke home off the top of my head) and more than Buckley or Morton but Tomasson doesn't seem to like him.

That being said, @roverandout O'Brien was arguably the best midfielder in the league last season. Think you implied before that you hadn't seen much of him but they are incomparable.

I just don't think with the time left he will be worth putting all this effort into getting

I do get that and I do think that even if he signs, we carry an element of responsibility regarding the failure to sign him from Feb onwards.

That being said, he would be a massive improvement on our current midfielders and we are 4th in the mix for the play offs so still worth pursuing.
