Anyone know about this, when it first came to light and what it actually means for our club?

I've read the mail from them but it isn't really specific

As per usual there's silence from the club.

I just get the feeling if this was in anyway positive for BRFC and the fans, Swag would be all over it.

After more than a decade of almost total neglect Rovers are now to spend a fortune with a consultancy just to put together a master plan for Ewood's development.

Well I hope I'll hang around long enough to at least see this master plan, just to make sure it includes a football pitch.

Are this lot going to slip one in for Brockhall too .....

First I’ve heard of this, lots of mention of socio-economic factors

Not quite sure what would actually bring the cash in these days though maybe it’s finally time for Hughesys Casino!

ewood is an asset of the community is`nt it,the greasy toad can`t get his mitts on it

Assets are just a space on a monopoly board, don’t think that a slimy toad can’t get around these rules. ‘We can move to a green field site that allows the club to develop”!!! Aka Arsenal, Everton everyone has his price.

i don`t think we`ll end up moving tbh though i can see the riverside being developed into a swag project,no money to spend on players but plenty to build a vanity project, thats the swag/venky way of doing things

A couple of years ago they had plans in (and I think approved) to remodel the site where the BRIC currently stands completely and build an astroturf pitch next to it where the away coaches park. Reading between the lines I think there was some back and forth with the council. Rovers wanted them to pay a significant amount towards this but the council wanted more use of the facilities for the wider public than the club were willing to give up. One thing mentioned was moving the early years Academy, and possibly the women’s team to there. I assumed they had rethought this when the Brockhall scheme got shot down.

Two people at Rovers have pipe dreams that this could have something to do with…Waggott’s wants a hotel, Paul Fielder wants a three sided ground and a university campus.

I don't understand what an astroturf pitch where the away coaches park would achieve, other than making it harder for away fans to get here. If it was to train any of our teams, don't we have training facilities for them already? Perhaps it was all part of the training ground downsizing exercise? And what possessed them to think the council would heavily fund it without access being granted for the public? Bizarre.

I was very suspicious it was all part of the Brockhall downsizing plan, perhaps due to the fact I heard about it at the same time. However the fact it hasn’t materialised makes me think I was right.

Fielder is particularly keen on the idea of council and other grants. He’s hoping they will come flooding in once the Riverside is condemned.

Who is Fielder? I don't see why they would, other than possibly to deal with any repairs or redevelopment to the Riverside. Even then, I doubt it.

I'm thinking this new project will be redeveloping the Rovers indoor centre and and build Astro turf pitch. This will be more community project between Rovers, Rovers community trust and Blackburn with Darwen council. So Rovers community trust will use the facilities on match days and school holidays whilst Blackburn with Darwen council used it on non match days. Abit like Football facilities used on local Sports centres

That the same genius marketing director that doesn’t think we need to market the club to kids as they don’t like watching football, so we should sell them NFTs instead?

The very same!

He said that if the Riverside is condemned then the council would be more likely to help fund developing something in its place. He wants a campus for the UCFB and was more interested in how this could be somewhere people played computer games and used virtual reality than actual football and proper reality.

I don't think football-loving local kids being inside these new facilities whilst we are playing a stone's throw away is a good idea. And I still don't see any wisdom in getting rid of the car park where away fan buses park. It's just asking for trouble, harder to move them to a safe location in an orderly fashion. Imagine trying to escort a bunch of loony Millwall fans to an alternative car park through crowds of Rovers fans.

You make some very valid points there and some I agree with there

He wants the council to fund a new project when honest, hard working people are struggling to pay their Council Tax? Don't we have extravagantly wealthy owners and this kind of spend wouldn't impact on P&S?
