As one who stated that JRC was an abysmal footballer in the past I cannot quite believe the transformation over the last month or so.

The only reasoning that I can come up with is a reality check that came with looking at the exit door. For the past 2 years, regardless of form or fitness  Mowbray always found a way to shoehorn the lad in the side, hence it all came a bit easy for him. Maybe the realisation that he may have to ply his trade somewhere less salubrious has sharpened him up because he's become a player that I could never have envisaged from the last 2 years of 'performances'.

JRC started in just 20 of the 92 league games in the last 2 years - with 4 sub appearances - so it is hardly the case that the manager was always shoehorning him in to the team.Nyambe started 64 of those games and came on as a sub in 5.

JRC was injured for most of the other 72 games...

Who knows? He’s been absolutely shite, but we don’t have anyone else available and Vale is even less effective that Gally. Which is why, honestly I’d just keep playing him in the hope that one crashes in off his backside, he regains some confidence and scores another 5-10 goals between now and May. He is a handful when he’s on it 🤞🏽

You were right!

Another 8/10 performance from JRC. He has been absolutely outstanding since he has come back in. If he wasn't injured for one game he'd surely be in with a shout of winning player of the month for the whole league!

Other people can rate a player that you don't, without it being some sort of fucking syndrome you know.

Always rated Nyambe from day one, so hardly Stockholm syndrome. Mismanagement and injuries stopped him becoming the player he could have been. But doesn't mean I can't acknowledge the current JRC (the old one was dogshit at RB) and Brittain offer more in an attacking sense and probably more overall.

In any case Nyambe was worth more than the nothing we got for him and Mowbray did not treat him well.

I just say what I see. I thought Nyambe was crap long before any contract issue and I thought JRC was a better fullback than him, the first time I saw him play there. I posted as much.

The funniest thing about your assertions about Nyambe and ‘the clubs’ view on him is that, believe it or not Nyambe and Mowbray got on wonderfully….in fact there’s only Tony at the club who rated him. The rest, in particular Venus thought he was crap and were on him all the time.

The problem with Nyambe and Mowbrays love in, was that it gave RN the idea that he was much better than he was and he decided to hold out for a better deal. Once Tony was gone and he realised no one wanted him, it was too late. JDT and GB withdrew the contract and RN got a year in Wigans reserves on LESS than he was on at Rovers.

Awkward.

Really good win and a performance that was far more dominant than recent weeks which made it doubly enjoyable to watch. QPR are woeful hence a record of is it 1 in 19 but there were bits of play from us on another level.

Rankin Costello the star of the show, that bit of skill and then composure for the cross for the third was brilliant. All of the defence were good and protected Pears aside from a poor clearance from Carter for their goal.

Travis again very good and his pass to set up Szmodics was outstanding, and a good finish by Szmodics who was bright. Buckley played pretty well too aside from dawdling again once or twice, plenty of good work. Gallagher wasnt outstanding in terms of general striking play but he did the most important part of a strikers game by getting into positions for 2 tap ins. Dolan is better wide, Thomas the least effective player on show for us.

JRC has had a lot of injuries but his confidence is sky high and seems a lot fitter than previous as well. JDT seems to excellent at man management. He demands hard work in training and dicipline, and seems to be cut from the same cloth as Ten Hag in that sense.

On our day we're a good watch and a match for most of the teams in this league. Excited for the run-in now.

I agree. I think he was a great athlete and had he been two inches taller, might be a decent cb, but he’s a rank bad fullback and the likes of Brittain, who hasn’t even been able to establish himself, due to injuries are head and shoulders above him.

Brittain has historically been consistent in terms of games played, so fingers crossed he’s passed his injury issues.

He quite clearly is not a "rank bad full back" hence why he was a regular part of us finishing 8th last season. Brittain has been good and Rankin Costello has been outstanding since he came back, an unexpected turn because he never played anything like this before.

Seems like an attempt at saying "I told you so" by massively exaggerating, including adding a supposed insider view.

For the record, just to put this shite about me siding with the club to bed. I really liked Lenihan and Rothwell and I didn’t want to lose them…Hyam and Lenihan would’ve been class and we haven’t replaced Rothwell. They were both good players, unlike Nyambe. 👍🏼

As you say Gallagher got into positions to make the strikes easy. Many Shearer goals were tap ins because he was such an intuitive striker and reader of the game.

if Gallagher is allowed to stay in that position and keep getting service from “Top Ranking Costello”  or Thomas, the goals will keep coming.

We are going to have to get used to being without Brereton. This is A good time to start the learning process.

I dont think he would ever become a player who would suddenly start regularly getting into those positions.

Didnt see the gamd but Probably one of the best results and performances of the season. Also good to see there would be life to the team without BBD. You could argue in the last 2 games having two genuine wingers in dolan and Thomas on either flank has helped the team.

If Gallagher did nothing else other than stay central and throw himself at crosses he'd do alright at championship level.

It worked for Shearer, Ripley and Wilcox at a higher level; so why ever not?

Awkward.

Trying to win this argument by claiming to be ITK is poor form. And yet still, even your version says the club didn't rate him. Awkward.

Venus' expertise better belongs in property development. Mowbray dragged Nyambe in public and dropped him for like 2 months over one mistake when loads of other players were making more mistakes. Some way of rating him.

Nyambe's agent fucked up, for sure.

Rankin-costello was outstanding.  Travis and Buckley controlled midfield.  Gallagher credit to him was a massive improvement on previous games though he still acts like a mannequin half the time.  Brittain is a rolls Royce of a fullback.  I thought we fully deserved the win today.  Best performance of the season
