Season tickets 2023-24 - what could/should be offered ?

Recommended Posts

Around double or more than Luton, Millwall, Coventry and Middlesbrough.

Bizarre and even more so when you think we weren’t on particularly much before the World Cup. Crazy amount in the second half of the season.

Add red button games to it too and as a result, in my opinion, it will be a big factor if we see a substantial fall in ST sales.

In addition to that we had most of our FA Cup matches broadcasted with a reported £200k from the quarter final alone. There is also a fair chunk of money for progressing through the rounds. It would be interesting to know how Rovers budget for tv revenue and the other extras.

How much do clubs get for being selected on TV? Must be a decent income with nearly half our matches this season shown on TV.

Between £20k -£100k per match depending on venue/time/day

e.g. Rovers would get 100K for a home match on a prime time slot on a prime day (no idea what constitutes prime day/time - but I'm guessing the Saturday night match at home to Hull was close to £100k)

or £20k for an away game at a non-prime slot on a non-prime day.

You get more for being at home.

So even if we say we got the minimum of £20k for every game it's still £400k .... but more likely closer to £1m across 20 games.

These are the questions Waggott won't want people to be asking. Doesn't fit with the 'woe be us' narrative of having no money, low income, completely reliant on Venkys and that justifies screwing the fans for every penny.

This TV money isn't a bonus or prize, it's compensation to offset against inevitably lower attendances when people prefer to watch from home rather than buy a ticket. We know it will go straight into the coffers with no mention of it from Waggott, but if he was serious about things they'd be using some of this money to reduce ticket prices and encourage people to still come to Ewood. Instead we still have some of the highest prices.

One of the reasons we've been selected so many times might be because, contrary to the party line, we are actually a well known and well followed club by the standards of this division and whilst we don't get droves turning up at Ewood we are actually seen as a better bet on viewing figures compared to most of the dross in this division.

Agree with that,I think we are more popular than some believe..we have a good away following that helps too.

It can’t just be a coincidence can it? And surely we don’t pull in the highest viewers for Sky.
Just seems so odd, are we proactively pushing to be on TV for the bits of extra income.

20 times vs 7 Coventry or 5 Stoke (the two of of those both televised when they played us!) or 12 Boro.

I think it’s a combination of being in the top 6 all season, a lot of derbies, plus the top 2 walking away with it so Sky decided to pick others in the play off places instead.

Just a weird set of circumstances that will probably never be seen again - but of course once the new TV deal kicks in every season will be like this for most clubs…

Usually the club makes these kind of U-turns on a Friday I’ve noticed, but as that’s been and gone and they will now be pretty much closed for business now until Tuesday, it currently looks like the fools will actually go through with the price rise… so roll up, roll up for your £429 to £529 tickets!

But saying that didn’t they increase them for a day and then reduce them again last summer, so who knows with the shambles down there…

Sky don’t just decide who’s on, the clubs have a say. We’re willing to move kick off times, even days of games, to receive the Sky money. That’s the difference.

So Sky who form the vast bulk of a club’s income go to say, Luton, and say we are showing your game on Saturday in a month’s time.

Luton - ‘No’.

New one to me that.

If the game is picked with a certain amount of notice (don’t know the actual timelines) the club has no choice, but if it’s relatively last minute they have a say in it, yes.

I really dislike the notion that Waggott is sat in his office furious at the impact on the fans after another game has been selected for Sky. His idea to build revenue is to charge the ~8,000 fans who will buy a ST regardless of price as much as possible, then sell as many games to Sky as possible.

Ha, who thinks that about Swag? Like we’ve said he’d be happy with one fan in the ground if said fan paid SW’s £3million revenue target for his ST.

All late season matches are short notice as Sky want to pick teams that have something to play for. So Luton last week as an example, minimal notice - that could’ve been turned down, and stayed at Saturday 3pm?

Interesting.

Hope this 'early bird' offer is extended beyond the 7th May for two more months, it's our only hope in scraping towards 9-10k sales.

Just had an email to say 48 hours to go and then the prices will increase.

It sounds like they’ll be increasing again after 26th May.

Piss up and brewery come to mind.

Some fans will be mulling it over. But folk can be very hard over once a price rises. So they’ll get to Tuesday morning, another £50 on top of the already dearest tickets in the area and think, ‘nah!’

I bought ours yesterday after thinking long and hard. It's still just about worth it financially, despite us missing 2 or 3 games.

The following season will be more questionable though Being asked to stump up £600 whilst knowing there's going to be plenty of games shifted, may be a no.

With the advent of the new TV deal, this surely rings the death knell for traditional season tickets. Fans are being asked/told to be more flexible in when they can attend, so it should follow that clubs offer more flexible ticketing solutions.

Probably not at BRFC though.

I can’t find this information, where did you get it from?

What happens if one club says yes and the other says no?

Sky’s rules purposely reduce the notice period in the run-in, to ensure they pick games that involve teams with something to play for, so in reality I don’t think a club can turn it down as they’ll ensure they stay within their (short by April, granted) notice period.

EFL TV deal: several Championship clubs unhappy with new Sky Sports contract - BBC Sport

Previous deal ^

'Sky can select any game for TV coverage but must show each Championship club at least twice at home. This increases to three times for the final two years of the contract'

Have you got a link to where it says clubs have a choice? Leeds were unhappy with the previous deal because they were on 20 times in 2017, just like we were this season. Their owner called for a 'PL2' on the back of it. He did that because they didn't have a choice when their games were put on Sky.
