If he's not been getting game time there's likely to be a reason behind it.

Lots of speculation here.

Why everyone is going mad about him not playing is a little strange given that he has yet to complete a full 90 minutes.

The reason a lot of people are upset ,is the fact that he hasn't been given the chance to complete a full 90 minutes. As our outstanding midfielder he should have been.

Reading between the lines, I think JDT feels he doesn’t do enough defending and closing down when we don’t have the ball.

Yet he seems ok with someone who backs out of challenges every single game, even those in his favour, and who prefers rolling round on the floor feigning injury to tracking back.

Since Morton rolled around on the floor and cost us that match he has played 90 minutes, 73 minutes, 90 minutes, 90 minutes - accumulating 2 points in the process.

EDIT: for what it's worth, this is in order of appearance minutes in the league this season

I think JDT has managed Wharton pretty well, as a manager should. He's 18, I think some forget this. He's also coming into the side in an era of information overload, where every move is scrutinised, and rumours are rife - I'm sure young lads coming into the team over the last 30 years have had all sorts of little foibles and issues, we've just never heard about it.

I want him to play every minute as I love watching him and I can see what he brings to the team - but can you imagine if we'd used him every game for 70mins a piece and totally run him into the ground? In an ideal world JDT would have O'Brien and Buckley alongside Travis and he could phase him in. Imagine if he'd misplaced a backpass against Preston or maybe made to look like a lost kid against Burnley, or done a Morton against Wigan. That's why JDT is holding back slightly. He also knows he gets an easy ride from the fans as he's a local, a fan and academy product, its a rare position for a player to be in. Swap Morton for Wharton, would he get the same stick? He'd get a free ride and sympathy.

I heard on one of the many Rovers podcasts after Hull (they keep me sane during the working week), can't remember which, that imagine in the late 90s when Duff arrived on the scene, that we had some United or Liverpool loanee keeping him out of the team a la Morton now, and every time Duff came in with 10mins to go, he'd light the place up and create chances, but we went back to benching him for the next game, playing the loan ahead of him. It's not quite the same but I get the comparison. I think JDT plays Morton as he can last a game (or there's a clause in his contract).

In reference to that my only real complaint, definitely shared by others, is the time in which he's been subbed on recently, why give him 15 mins against Norwich, 10 against Hull? Our subs have been dire this season. I think next season we'll see him get more game time.

An outstanding performance tonight from Adam. Got us on the front foot more often than not and his range of passing is the best at the club. Hopefully Tomasson has seen now that we are much better with him in the team and he should be the first named midfielder on the team sheet.

he`s twice the player morton is, always got loads of time on the ball even in a crowded midfield, thats the sign of a really good player,if we manage to get better players around him next season he`ll be absolute dynamite,we`ve got a potential 20 million pound player on our hands here, the lad is destined for the very top

The way he creates space for himself on the half turn is a God given gift. Hopefully he gets a lot more opportunities to show his absolute class.

I'd compare his intelligence and reading of the game at such a young age to Harvey Elliott. Very exciting potential, now Rovers and Adam just have to make the most of it.

What's most exciting here is the age of that squad - Ayala and Dack the only outfield players over 27 - and you'd expect them to both be gone at the end of the season.

Most of those players should be even better next season if we can keep hold of JDT and he can continue to nurture them. It's the core of a decent squad thanks to the academy - just need to sort our transfer policy out.

There's something to be said for having at least a bit of experience I'm the squad too though. Just no has-beens please!

There's things he does that remind me of Tugay. And in my book there is no higher praise. I could watch him all day.

Adam was an absolute joy to watch last night and just brought a big smile to my face on numerous occasions. His in-game awareness is off the chart for someone of his age & experience. His mind is a good 2-3 passes ahead of what's going on.

The little drops of the shoulder, taking the ball on the turn, calm under pressure, one touch volleyed passes..........I could go on, but I can't wait to see what player he does end up turning into - the sky's the limit.

Literally echoing everyone’s comments. The lad is an unreal talent! 1 player can make a difference to a teams performance & I wonder how many more points we’d have if he started more.

A big test for him in a derby on Sat. I’m sure PNE will have heard/seen him so will be all over him in the centre.

I remember the Bristol City home game after his debut at Blackpool. He just wasn’t same and had a poor game (it happens I know)…hopefully we don’t see a repeat on Sat.

Why? He is English..............

The first time I saw Phil Jones I remember thinking - "he will play for England"

One step at a time, I think he stands out for us but my excitement comes with him thriving at Rovers before we start putting him next to Bellingham.

Unfortunately players like that don’t get much chance to thrive at normal clubs before they are headhunted.

We're not a normal club, we can be very stubborn (sometimes to our detriment) with sales when we want to be. We may also get slightly longer out of him due to his being a fan and his brother playing here, but after the Phil Jones sale you can never be sure that means anything.
