I do find articles like this a bit galling. One measly mention of Rovers, whereas "much of the credit for Wharton’s rapid progression must go to Glasner".

In general, all of this talk as if the 'genius' recruitment team at Palace plucked another gem out of nowhere is just very annoying. 

I know I'm also just bitter.

He’s pretty much the same player he was at Rovers, the major difference is in the quality of his teammates.

It's starting to look like he may be the best player to have ever worn a Palace shirt.   That's from us Palace fans.  That's including Wilf, Ian Wright,  Lombardo, Don Rogers et al and the current 3 front headline makers.    We know how you feel, happened to Palace a few times.   Victor Moses and John Bostock being two glaring examples.    Except Wharton seems extraordinarily good.  Good luck next season.

He should make the full squad but it seems almost certain that with Southgate wanting enough players to cover the cup final absentees for the friendly games that he will probably be cut.

Either way, it is a great achievement for him. But to be honest (and I know he wouldnt have been close to the squad had he stayed in the Championship) it just adds to the frustration and anger that he had to be pushed out for a poor price out of desperation purely for the owners to claw money back to cover their own self inflicted legal issues with no money available to better us.

Our rave reviews of Adam are not done through rose tinted glasses, we were all saying that at the time.

18 million is an insulting figure, not just to us but to him as well. He was easily worth double that at the bare minimum. There was absolutely no resistance from the owners and their boot licking stooges as they sold him to the very first bidder.

No shame in that of course, but pity it didn't work out for him too. Yet another Wharton brother coming through the club would have been quite something. The family have done great to churn out two talented pros though.

As a Crystal Palace fan I just want to say what a fantastic player we’ve bought from you guys. He just does the basics so well. Control, passing, tackling etc… nothing outrageous but just so consistent. He covers the pitch very well and is very disciplined in his positioning. Well ahead of his age. He stepped up to the team because we had a number of injuries in that position and he’s gone from strength to strength. I honestly hope he stays with us for many years and we can get some sort of success - cup or European place.

“ Bought ?” I think you mean stolen. Make the most of the next season, he’ll be on his way this time next year.

There was no ‘closed’ market - anyone could have offered more money. Also, he was a championship player so unproven at the highest level. That affects the price.

I guarantee he will be with us for at least 3 years + he doesn’t need to move on for international recognition as witnessed by the England call up.

Too many players fancy a big move and end up being a squad player for the big 6 clubs. Wharton will undoubtedly know this. We will pay him what he’s worth.

He is outstanding. From what I've seen at Ewood he's gifted with natural ability with his thinking being a few steps ahead. He knew where the ball was going before he kicked it and disguised a pass like no one else I've seen.

We are bitter. We have lost a potentially world class, homegrown, fan of the club for about a third of what he is probably going to be worth by the summer. Not Palace's fault though, who wouldn't take that kind of bargain?

I think you should start adjusting yourself to the fact that it's very unlikely he stays with you for 3+ years. He supports our club and we only got two seasons out of him at senior level. It's one thing getting called up to a 33 man provisional squad for England and another thing altogether to become a firm fixture in the starting 11. Loads of players move to other bigger Prem teams to solidify their international credentials. Even sitting on a big 6 bench can be enough sadly. They can also pay a lot more, and money talks.

If he is still with you in 3 years, it's because he didn't improve or even regressed. Unless you somehow start getting regular European football.
