So like I said it goes round in circles.

We sold at the worst possible time, I.e he’d only played 50 or so Championship games and we were a distressed seller, so Palace stumbled on a highly opportune moment as we had stamped ‘buy him, we’re skint’ on his forehead, £18 million was all it would ever be as we approached February 2024 with the state the club was in.

And of course any funds we did get would go to pay the tax bill and the leccy on behalf of the owners, not to rebuild the side, ergo a great deal for Palace and Venky’s, a terrible one for Blackburn Rovers.

How much do you think his value increases after 100 Championship games? 150?

I won't disagree that we rushed a sale and sold him at a time when we shouldn't have needed to, but he was going to be out the door within 12-18 months and we weren't going to get THAT much more for him.

He wasn't going to stick around for years and anyone who thinks differently should look at how active his agent was in boosting his profile in the 6 months prior to the move and how active they've been since he's arrived at Palace.

Adam Wharton wasn't just our golden egg, he's James Featherstone's as well.

I don’t disagree it is what it is when you are in the Championship. A normal club, however, doesn’t sell the player if he’s not demanding a move and will let him learn his trade and incrementally increase his value.

£18million wasn’t enough but in reality it could’ve been £80 million and we still wouldn’t have seen any (but it would mean an even longer period the owners would not have to pay their bills for).

Hallelujah @JHRover.

Whenever people talk about us getting a good fee for a player. I always argue there's no such thing, when it comes to us.

It doesn't go back into the team anyway, so it's irrelevant.

Seems to have had a setback in his recovery and is now some weeks away.

I wonder if the January transfer window was in mind in delaying his surgery and playing him through pain. Maybe too cynical but it seems they now might feel safe in holding on to him until the end of the season.

They’re tricky injuries to get right.

Especially when his club play him for months with painkilling injections whilst delaying necessary surgery. Madness to treat a 20 year old and one of their biggest assets in such a way.

Who cares? Beyond hoping he does alright for a sell on fee I don’t get this obsession with someone who no longer plays for Rovers.

This thread has 99 pages, it’s more than double the size it was when he left….

He’s one of us. In his case - once a Rover, always a Rover.

Normally you'd have a point but I really think there are extenuating circumstances in Wharton's case due to the disgraceful way he was forced out of the Club thanks to the mismanagement of the owners.

It's an interest rather than an obsession I would suggest.

Well when he leaves, we’ll see if Scott gets 50 pages in the 11 months following his departure…

Or let’s resurrect the Dunny thread every time he tweaks his hamstring down the gym

Come on, I rate Scott (highly) but he isn't a potential future megastar in the same way Adam is.

Is he? Surely you can see the difference.

And I'm sure if he was forced out of the Club as well to raise a few shillings to cover for the owners previous misdemeanours I'm sure he would still elicit a fair amount of sympathy as well.

If you still feel the same way, simple answer, don't read this thread!

He’s at Damien Duff levels of potential and talent and came through at Rovers, so the interest will go on as long as he does well.

If the women’s game had as much of a following, many of us would be talking about Keira Walsh, who’s in the mould of Wharton (to some extent) and now plays for Barcelona.

I just find it mad we get an update and 5 extra pages every time he coughs…

Its simple---he's gone but we can't let go.

That's the impression he made on us. Because he is such  a beautiful football player, so unaffected and clearly loved the Club.

So we loved him and we still do.

Bigger then putting a coach in charge of a settled premier league club and then not acting when it was clear he was relegating us?

Wharton has immense potential but in terms of fuck ups by these owners, this doesn't even touch the sides.
