Men against boys?!

We played them off the park.

Pickering foolishly fell for the only dummy Benson has and he curled their one shot of the game into the corner of the net.

There's nothing valuable about Dack and Ayala at this point - they're both ready for the knackers yard. Brereton-Diaz has been tripe for 6 months too.

We say the Championship is poor every year - which it is, bar the top 2 or 3 teams.

Don't think Pickering could do anything about it while on a yellow in fairness. Szmodics left his man to cover the space outwide, ironically forcing Benson inside and that clearly being his preference. Wharton was just a little slow to react to Benson cutting in giving him just enough room to get the shot away cleanly.

I agree with the opinions on here that we have bottled it by failing to win for sooooo many games at such a vital stage of the season, but I also agree that we enjoyed and dominated the game for an hour, although I think that was much to do with our twelfth man.

I honestly believe the brilliant support was partly an outpouring of frustration following such a barren, self-destructive, capitulating run of winless games, just really unforgivable, and partly deriving from a total 180° turnaround in our substitutions policy, which directly contributed to the loss of 6 points and an FA Cup semi.

Oops, that's what happens when you avoid the forum following such a disappointing run, then jump back on at such an booze-related, emotional  moment.

I agree 2 wins will def get us over the line, but to say we are not the form team is the biggest understatement since Roy Hodgson stated 'we are not a glamour club, us...(burp)'.

Oh well, I'm really enjoying our vastly improved playing out from the back style(tonight not the best example), and of course, Adam Wharton....

Onwards....

Keep the faith, tonight was electric...

I think he's managed him wisely.

He's only 18 - yes he's a superb talent, but he needs to be nurtured (and evidently his attitude has needed to be corrected). He'll be a better player for this - I just hope it's with us.

And if he's not with us it's a wasted season..both in potential points lost and potential value due to not playing...he's shown more  in 90 minutes than Morton has all season..

You know how we have all these statistical measures like expected goals now? I’m convinced that if you had a way of measuring supporter happiness whereby you got a lot of points for things like coming from behind to win, beating your rivals, scoring a late winner and lost points for the opposite then we would be lower down than most teams on that measure in the last ten years. I can’t complain too much though as we had a much better time than most fans in the nineties and noughties

I’m not dwelling on any positives. Why should we… this is a dark day in the history of Blackburn Rovers.

Moderate annoyances:

1. It’s all well and good sending your keeper up for a corner in injury time, but a minute prior our centre backs we’re playing one-twos with each other at the back for a good 30 seconds. We never mix it up, we are far too wedded to one style of play, and it leads to us trying (and failing) to walk it into the net.

2. Greg Broughton has a lot to answer for, but so does JDT. In Adam Wharton we have an exceptional footballer. How he has played so few minutes USA disgrace. Tomasson has sabotaged us with his lack of use of him and cost us points.

Major annoyance:

The Venky disease. 6 defeats by the dingles on the spin. No victory against them since they darkened our door. Now they’ve won the league (albeit the second division) at Ewood. Jack would be turning in his grave.

I agree with much of this but harsh on JDT considering he hasn't been backed. He clearly wanted an extra option in midfield and a striker in January and didn't get them. So I'd say the season has been sabotaged but not by the manager. A couple of players could have made a massive difference. Also Wharton is only 18 and clearly struggles to play a full 90 and we shouldn't be relying on a teenager at a professional football club when there were resources available.

I do agree that it's frustrating to not see Adam Wharton more (and Morton's costly mistakes), but even with him, as we saw tonight, we would have still struggled to get the ball in the net.

Jack would be deeply disappointed that his family enabled this continuing nightmare to happen.

We sign a striker in Jan, we’re sat comfortably in the top six right now. Simple as that. I’m actually excited for next season, we bring a bit more quality in, in the final third of the pitch and we’ll be a force. Rest of the team is good enough for me, tonight showed that.

To be fair, I’ve heard from someone that knows them that attitude has long been an issue. Not a dickhead by any stretch, just not a very hard worker/doesn’t apply himself.

But the fact remains that he could’ve played in a pair of wellies tonight and still been the best player on the pitch by some distance.

Happens when your ‘creative’ players are Diaz/Dolan/Hedges

Exactly.

But we competed and took the game to them, we created the better opportunities, we just lack half decent forwards. When we played them at Turf Moor we didn't compete. And they created fuck all anyway.

Nailed it mate. He let Tomasson and the club down beyond belief and we are still waiting for him to tell us what happened as he promised he would do. He is a no mark, a chancer who follows many like him over the last decade. We would be better off without him.

Amen to that.

Will we bring that transformative quality in with no money and generally shoddy running of the club?

The signings of Hyam & Szmodics would suggest it is possible.

Just a different area of the pitch.

Wow, I sure don't give a shit about that! Better over the professional minutes than Morton, has been all season, that's all I care about. Honestly I don't give a monkey's if when he trains he just runs around helicoptering his nob proclaiming himself to be the reincarnation of Napoleon Bonaparte.

Can you pick out some of those big chances Burnley had?

They had one shot on target. We had five.

I prob shouldn't join this chat, but as well as we battled, their keeper didn't have a save to make, despite all our decent build-up play.

Our 5 attempts on target were not worth the name.

Toothless doesn't come close to summing up our recent damming run of fails. Sorry, I know we out-fought them tonight....

I'd love some genuine pace in the front 4 too.

Burnley played on the half way line because they had zero fear of Dolan / Brereton-Diaz / Hedges running in behind them.

Agreed, wonder why Markanday wasn't recalled... always impressed me, think jdt has scored an own goal given our threadbare attacking options

Or had Pickering been told under no circumstances let Benson cut in on his left foot. He's just scored in the last two games  that way

He was on a yellow which may have made a difference, but Pickering vs Benson (or any tricky winger) is only going to end one way.

And Brittain - he shut down Benson when he came on. He's just been unfortunate that a lot of our creative play has come through JRC at RB (and with injuries).

I'm not saying they were big chances, but I'm not having it that we didn't compete and that we weren't the better team. We clearly were, we just have fuck all up front. And those bastards created fuck all.

I think by all accounts he's been shit for the U21s - and Aberdeen clearly didn't think much of him either. It looks like we bought a dud there.
