Pre season 23/24

Recommended Posts

Even before permanent transfer and loan business is complete, it is looking likely the fight for places all over the park is going to be the most intense for many many seasons.

Trav certainly seems to have responded to seeing exit and bench signposts.

No Pickering, Adam Wharton, Sigurddson or Ennis today either.

Looking forward to seeing highlights of the second game when from reports we were facing something more like their first team.

Some players that featured today are just players last season who didnt offer that competition last season. Its easy to get overly excited by pre season knoackbouts against poor opposition.

We have good competition in central midfield and will at centre back. Left backs today were both kids for example. You also look at players like Gilnesan and Weston, they arent going to provide real competition. Garrett isnt up to it at this stage either, Leonard could do with a loan.

Aside from the football, we must have had the worst location for pre season fan wise in the country! Every man and his dog getting about in Spain and other low cost places. Fair play James Wilko and the rest that went 👏

It wasn’t difficult to get to, the notice given by the club wasn’t great, but it’s a relatively easy trip for a European game.

Looked a lovely place, picturesque and I echo the sentiments for those that went.

Behave, its nowhere near the main airport in Vienna and the location is lovely yes but not particularly fan friendly. Take it you went?

Why would you fly to Vienna when Graz is much closer?

10 goals  today. But who is going to score for us ?

Speaking of - no Walker again. Is he just not highly thought of at Rovers? He's 20 now and plays wide - should be knocking down the door if he's got anything about him.

Because airlines?

Frequent flyer programme???

I’m not sure what you mean Ossy, but regardless, you’ve plenty of options to get out to Austria if you wish, although a couple of weeks notice by the club isn’t helpful.

It’s important to not carried away from pre-season friendlies.

With that in mind I think the WBA XI is starting to take shape:

            JRC

JRC JRC JRC JRC

       JRC JRC

JRC    JRC     JRC

           JRC

😉 😅 😂 🤣

Yes; that team's probably best playing a 4-2-3-1 system, @JPTSwindon !

There are actually very few options to get from NW England to Austria at the moment other than Ryanair to Vienna at inconvenient times.

In the past we've done Stuttgart with Ryanair but that doesn't exist at the moment.

Stansted a few more options but add a night and 4 hour+ drive on to get there

Rovers advertised the game as free entry to fans. Arrive at the ground at 10am to be told it is 7€ to get in.

An enjoyable few days away as it always is in a great country with friends but unfortunately not easy and not made any better by Rovers' woeful communications.

Just seen that the players were stuck at Frankfurt Airport waiting for their connecting flight to Manchester at 12:17am after kicking off in Hartberg at 10:30am. Going to be anyone's guess what time they get home and to bed.

Don't think they will be impressed by that or happy with the logistics involved nor will their bodies after such a tough effort in really hard temperatures.

If you want a flight to Graz you usually have to go via somewhere else with Lufthansa, not worth it for a relatively short journey.

Not sure why you're seemingly trying to defend the club, if you think Austria is fan friendly then so be it (it's not though).
