Filan was a good keeper. I’d say better than either of the two we have at the moment. He was unlucky with the broken arm.

Not a kid played football in Blackburn for the best part of a decade without pretending they were him in nets. I loved him then and I love him now. He and Tugay are my two favourite Rovers ever by a country mile.

if shearer had`nt damaged his cruciate ligament early in his rovers career,i honestly believe he`d have been up there with the legends of the centre forward genre,he was unplayable at times,that knee injury took a bit of pace out of him and he had to modify his game,still a world class player though and he told ferguson to **** off when he enquired about signing him😄top man

Criminally underrated IMO.

He could have dropped back into midfield as he got older and just bossed every game but he just loved scoring so much he didn't bother.

As you say, he was phenomenal after his ACL. What would he have been like had that not happened?

It was that second big injury he got at Newcastle in 1997 that changed his game entirely, totally lost his pace, turned into a target man after that.

He chose other clubs over Manure twice, but sadly he never told Fergie to fuck off. I think I'm right in remembering that some poor followup from Manure, dawdling on pulling the trigger, is part of why he ended up here. Then he was all set to sign for them from us until his boyhood club came in. Jack Walker quite possibly wasn't going to let it happen anyway, but according to Martin Edwards a contract was already agreed and Shearer was happy to go there. He deserves to be lauded as a legend here for many reasons, but his refusals of Manure's advances are frequently overstated.

At the end of the day, he's our legend not theirs.
