Also, our attacking players seem to take ages to decide who to pass to in the final third. It’s like we won’t play the quick incisive pass incase we lose it, so find the safer option once it becomes available. And yet in our defensive third we try to play first time, eye-of-a-needle incisive passing.

Dolan needs a lot of work to help him along on that front, agreed. Looked very right early on and was trusting his instincts more. You can see him get worked up trying to find the right thing, rather than being instinctive and committing.

Couldn't disagree more.  Markanday is too slow to play on the break - as is Dolan. If we are building the ball around the box he gets away with it because his touch is decent. He could play as a '10' I think. 

We could have field day out wide the way we play - if we had some real  pace.

Yes the service was shit, but it was in and around their box plenty. The likes of Dolan and Szmodics passing it to their defenders doesn't help.

It's a shame Gilsenan isn't on the bench as Dolan has been so poor. We need Ennis on.

We give players a lot of shite, but it's rare you see an actual 0/10 or 1/10 performance from a player, Szmodics has probably just accomplished it.

Moving our full backs into CDM when the CBs have the ball is only clogging up the (minimal) room Wharton has. That is NOT a winning tactic here.

Gallagher on, Szmodics off. Need to change to plan B... assuming there is one this season.

The game changes completely from that point. We were aggressive in possession, getting number in the box and looked likely to be causing problems.  From the miss on, we’ve had few opportunities and meaningless possession. Fell that if we had gone up the play wouldn’t have continued. Instead it’s all flipped.

Gregg needs to earn his coin this window, we go into the season with that front 3 it's a relegation scrap this season, it's so annoying as we are a few good additions from being a real force

Hedges deserves minutes after the midweek game. Buckley and Garrett too maybe, the former is probably the best option to replace Szmodics in this formation.

That is nail on the head.

So frustrating as have players playing above their level with a bloody good manager. If they dared back him with a couple of quality additions we would be a really good team.
