Venky’s v Indian Government (a) - 13/11/2024 - Re-Arranged Challenge Match

Recommended Posts

So item 36 in Mr Justice Sanjeev Narula’s room has been rescheduled for 13-Nov. Item 36 in his room was the Venkys case.

Sanjeev left the room at around item 18 and they’ve just spent the last half an hour giving new dates to the items that were missed.

The display board (https://delhihighcourt.nic.in/display_board) is still updating. Item 37 has just switched from "Not in session" to "A51 hearing".

All the cases heard  first thing this morning were prefixed by A. They then started on the normal numbers as listed for today. So maybe adjourned hearings ?

It’s not too difficult of a life being a High Court judge in India

Interesting that in the notice of adjournment on the last occasion the Court said something like 'this matter will take some time' and put it back to today for a final hearing but then it seems to have been listed before a Judge with dozens of other matters with clearly not a lot of time to look at it (if any).

Given it's a final hearing, it surely can't be postponed again can it?

I think in the world of law anything can be postponed for any reason at any time.

Bleak House by Charles Dickens writing back in the 1850s... "Jarndyce v Jarndyce drones on. The scarecrow of a suit has in course of time become so complicated that no man alive knows what it means. The parties to it understand it least; but it has been observed that no two Chancery lawyers can talk about it for five minutes without coming to a total disagreement as to all the premises. Innumerable children have been born into the cause; innumerable young people have married into it; innumerable old people have died out of it. Scores of persons have found themselves made parties in Jarndyce v Jarndyce without knowing how or why; whole families have inherited legendary hatreds with the suit… "

Purgatory for me would have been that the case was dealt with, Venkys were released from restrictions and they were free to go about doing whatever it is they do without any need to go back to Court.

The only hope we have of being rid of them is the government or Courts forcing them out. If the matter has gone off again it leaves some hope this could still happen (slim I agree).

I’m regretting posting the link now 😄

Did you post the link of the right one, or the wrong one which I sat through for hours for no reason?

Hold on, so they schedule more than 20 items in a day, only get through 20 and then move the rest back to days with again more than 20

Are we just stuck in a coin flip of will we be less than item 20

They have just had 2 national holidays in India. Today was always going to be a catch up with a high chance of an adjournment.
