We all know striker is the key signing, so fingers crossed on that one once this is hopefully confirmed. It's not too late to put together a playoff push if we recruit right and get the injured lads back fit.

Speak for yourself. I know that goalkeeper is the key signing. Not that I expect us to sign one.

Colin hendry was a bit of a journey man defender till we resigned him from city that turned out ok.

A journeyman player is one who has been at quite a lot of clubs. When we signed him back from City, he had only played for 3 clubs, over 9 years. He wasn't a journeyman. In fact he played for 5 clubs after he left us the second time, so he was arguably more of a journeyman later.

Whilst I agree we need a better no 1, I can just about cope with Pears until the summer if it means we can bring in a good striker. Doubt whatever our budget is stretches for both. Our current options up top aren't good enough for this level, bar maybe Gallagher who's always injured and never been prolific. Despite his flaws, Pears is a decent Championship goalkeeper.

We're scoring. We're conceding. I know which one needs changing.

Pears isn't a decent Championship keeper, he's a decent backup Championship keeper.

No chance they’ll be bringing a keeper in anytime soon (well, not an experienced one at any rate).

Just need to hope Pears is steady enough.

They call that forlorn hope.

We're also missing good chances to kill games off. We've needed to sign a good striker for a while now. We can't leave it another window.

We had a good Championship goalkeeper (arguably a decent Premier League one) and sold him in favour of Pears. They're not going to use up our limited resources to admit that mistake. Our defensive woes haven't just been down to our goalkeeping; our whole defensive unit has gone backwards this season.

I know.  Just trying to use him as an example as someone who wasn't that highly rated till his second spell at rovers

Football is baffling, isn't it?

After pulling our pants down with the Phillips transfer (ably assisted by Phillips and his agent) we're lead to believe they're going to come waltzing back with a smile on their faces for Wharton?

I wouldn't even answer the phone.

FFS! Have u ever played football? The minute your defenders start losing confidence in the keeper, they start making mistakes. They start trying to 'protect ' him, leading to mis-timed tackles, going for headers that the keeper should collect,  etc etc. Defence starts with the keeper, end of! (I used to be one, I know! If I lost form, the guys in front of me did daft things!)

Ohh ive played football ..Sunday league doesn't count.... Talking like an ex pro 😭

I was a CB and can totally agree. With a good keeper behind me I was twice the player.

Agreed, we also need a striker, we shouldn't have sold Kaminski (at least not for that pittance or with such a poor replacement) and I doubt we will use limited funds to rectify that mistake. But we were talking about what we should do, not what we will do.

We miss chances to kill games, so do all teams. But we have the league's top marksman. We have one of the league's worst set of goalkeeping options.

Furthermore, worth considering that a good striker will cost a lot more than a good goalkeeper, generally. Those limited funds aren't going to manage it. If we bring in a striker it's likely to be another Telalovic/Ennis type signing and I just don't see the point if that's the case.

Spurs did nothing wrong and certainly nothing Rovers wouldn't do. They were told Phillips was available at a price they were happy to pay, if they waited until a certain date. If Rovers had the same opportunity but paid more just to get the player a few weeks earlier they'd rightly be slammed.

As for not answering the phone to them, if they offer the highest bid and meet the valuation, why would you cut your nose off to spite your face?
