I highly doubt we’ve paid anything to CSKA.

Maybe, maybe not. But it didn't benefit them to give him to us permanently now, but does benefit us, so if they were sensible they'd have insisted on a token fee. I mean surely it's worth 50k to us to free up a loan spot if we think we might want to name more than 5 loanees on a matchday. Unless there's some special exemption for precontracts to take effect immediately if the player's registration has been suspended due to the Ukraine war.

I think the point is that we can't send any funds to Russia at present!

Duncan McGuire’s mum has started following Rovers on Twitter 👍

How do you know it's his mum? Same surname and following MLS as well as us, so probably related to him, but could be wife, sister, cousin...?

Good point, totally forgot about that! I'd still expect CSKA to refuse to free his registration up then, as a bit of a 'fuck you' to the West for taking a player off them due to the war. Doesn't hinder them to keep hold, unless they're somehow still obliged to pay him in some way meanwhile, which I can't imagine since they have no right to use him. Anyway this is getting a bit off piste now I suppose.

Gutted that Wharton is going and no doubt we won't spend much of the money....but it won't harm us in the short term. We win more games when he doesn't play as he's still not great defensively.

These stats are so dumb 😭

Gallagher worth £20m and Wharton worth £2m according to these

That’s not how transfers work in a lot of our fans heads. As soon as a club from a higher division/level comes in you are duty bound to arbitrarily find an example of a player of a similar profile that went for a similar amount and proclaim it a fair price. The selling team should in no way consider the impact of losing the player on the teams performance. The purpose of a football club is to develop and improve players for others these days, apparently.

I can think of a few who’ll be delighted at this, then get back to begging for an u21 pl loan so they can use wyscout to make them seem like messi, I think it’s a from Wigan thing

I feel I can say this categorically but neither of the Wharton boys will be motivated just by the money of premier league clubs - one look at their haircuts tells you that!

Massive shame we've (to my gut) heavily pressured a 19 year old local lad out the door.  Be feeling even worse when the FB groups parade it as a Bellingham style outgoing rather than the penny pinch it actually is

 Called it

Is this a joke?

If it is, its great trolling because its really wound me up.

I'm highly confident it's a joke, yes. The player hasn't even moved yet, why would the DoF have done an interview saying we're retiring his shirt already? I also can't find any trace of it online.
