Sunderland sack Mowbray

Recommended Posts

Whilst there is quite a bit of angst from their support at this understandably i also think it's worth noting 1 win in 5 could then become 6/7 and most would turn on him anyway.

Also the real reasons they've parted ways hasn't come to light yet and it could be any number of reasons but he was always a short term appointment there.  If they get someone interesting in and he starts well TM will soon be forgotten about, remember here half the fanbase seemed to think he was the messiah.

He really wasn't.

No surprise to see another club wasn't willing to entertain his death spirals. Although, it's really not all that bad compared to the ones he had here.

That check list above though, he did pretty much all of that here too (although playing Dack wasn't a bad thing here).

I always thought he was trying to get a pay off here for years and we just weren't entertaining it.

Shows the stark contrast to a club with a proper board that holds a manager to account....and us. The months long death spirals are just not tolerated at other clubs. Bang average at best manager that has been fairly quickly found out again once leaving here.

If you remember Waggots comments in the summer that theres no pressure on JDT to achieve anything. This basically means JDT could have the same spirals and keep his job. Luckily JDT appears a lot more driven than Melton Mowbray ever was.

Were going no where under the current club structure.

If TM’s agent had happened to have wrangled an extra two years on his deal he’d still be here now.

This is the only club that just doesn’t sack managers. Just once (and that was that total clown with the head tennis and doughnuts training sessions) in eight years.

Reading their requirements from a new boss, JDT would be at the top of their list !

Madness that Sunderland have sacked Mowbray. He was doing a fantastic job there. I think they'll do a Birmingham now and slip down the league.

Sadly Dack's career appears to be over at championship level with this news. I think he'll drop down to lge 1 next season.

Any ambitious club at our level or higher would have Tomasson on their wish list.

I would not be surprised if there were murmurings of Sunderland being interested.

Also pretty sure JDT would be keen to speak to anyone with a bit of ambition. Other than our top notch academy, there's not much going for the current job.

Definitely, I think he loves the club, players, area and fans but can’t abide the idiots running the club.

Don't think they wanted him to stay beyond the end of last season, but unexpectedly getting into the playoffs made it a lot more difficult to justify giving him the boot. Unsurprisingly, first sign of serious trouble this season and he's gone.

Think he did a decent job there all things considered, but was always a stop-gap appointment so did not have the luxury of the death spirals, stupid media comments, playing players out of position, playing favourites, and so on.

Wouldn't be surprised if he pops up at another Championship club in the near future. If you need a steady-eddy to keep you in the league, Tony's your man.

I think they'll do no such thing unless they appoint a terrible manager. They've been in and around the playoffs with an average one.

Mowbray's departure certainly didn't do us any harm, and we're terribly ran. Sunderland used to be terribly ran but seem to have got it together.

According to a report in the Daily Telegraph there was an argument between Mowbray and the Sunderland board after he told them that they would not be able to challenge for promotion to the Premier League unless they signed more experienced players rather than the younger players that the board favoured who could be part of a "development " programme to be sold on for profit.

Given that that sounds very similar to the situation at Ewood Park which reputedly is disliked by JDT that would appear to rule him out.

We have sacked a few actually. Coyle, Berg, Appleton, and the twit you mentioned, wasn't sacked, he resigned and sued the club.

I’m talking about ‘Coyley’. The only one sacked in eight years.

2011 to 2013 was obviously a revolving door. However, post Bowyer they’ve pretty much just left whoever has a contract to manage the first team to it. As always, they take a very different path to every other owner in football.

Difference being i think up there there is an actual board to argue with and put your point across. Whereas here it's just shouting into a void after the CEO tells you he'll speak to the owners conduit and he'll get back to you.

Mm, he didn’t manage to keep us in this league in his first season. Having said that he manage to keep us in it nicely after we came back up.
