I agree on Barnes. He was ahead of Phillips in the match day squad until his injury, 2 years later, he needs regular first team football now and He will find a club, wouldn't surprise if someone like Stanley or Morecambe offered his contract and that chance for first team football.

I agree with giving McFadzean a new contract. Gives us experience in the squad.

On Fleck, shows that Eustace wanted him stay. I hope its a very low wage contract with performance and game time related bonus type of contract cos he hasn't played regular for a season

No one for me. They didn't turned up as a squad, they froze on the pitch. Oxford much deserved win

I would deffo take Connolly here. Its a free and worth offering him 3 years contract, only 24 years and got 8 goals in 28 games last season

Aaron Connolly’s 10 Hull City Goals! (youtube.com)

But would you want Fleck to say?

A player who is 33 and whilst a good player in his day, he has barely played in years due to 2 broken legs which left him with a plate in his leg, that after 17 minutes of football was so vulnerable that it led to a further long term injury. In a position which out of them all we have more cover for.

I would have to see the deal before passing judgement on Fleck

In a normal club, you’d expect a pay as you play type arrangement, with him coaching as a “day job”

We will wait and see. His injuries are a real worry. But he was some midfielder in his day and lads like Garrett and Buckley could do a lot worse than watch and learn from him in training

It's more the fact that he's on £15k+ a week that's the problem.

I keep hearing about his wages, it isn't as if we all have to chip in and pay him, if he accepts a contract that the club can afford, what's the problem?

How much would any experienced replacement want? Will they want paying? Would there be a transfer fee?

An experienced replacement might actually score the odd goal.

This thread is so very depressing.

It seems like we have now scraped through the bottom of the barrel and are rummaging through all the sh1t that lies beneath.

If anyone on this MB seriously thinks we are going to be paying fees this summer and bringing in quality additions then I think they are seriously, seriously deluded.

I think the die is cast and next season will be a long and torrid affair.

I really hope the Indian court actions in August bring about an end to the current ownership as, IMO, Rovers as a club needs fumigating from top to bottom and we need to start again under new ownership and senior management, at the bottom of the pile if need be.  We need a glimmer of light and hope.

Whilst I agree with everything you have said here, do you still think rovers will be in admin come 31st August?

Evidently they can't afford it because we're scraping round for L2 and National League free agents.

Unless my maths is horribly wrong we're paying Gallagher £7.8m a year (if that conservative £15k a week salary figure is accurate). Surely that money is better used elsewhere?

Wow never really thought of it like that - if we are extending his contract because we believe someone is in for him then fair enough but my god we could put that sum to soo much better use.

It's £780,000 - my maths is terrible.

Still, it's a fair chunk of change.

We would be better getting 2 at 7.5k who can contribute or putting it towards a loan of something decent.

Offering him anything other than a modest pay as you play deal is rank stupidity at best and something smelly at worst.

If we're looking at experienced freebies I'd take Jay Rod from them up the road as he's being released. He 100% offers a lot more than Gallagher and would probably accept similar/lower wages too.  I know some would say eww no he's a dingle bit ultimately he'd simply offer more than we have currently

You're right, but would the bloke alongside him be top scorer in the Championship?

Won't happen regardless, he'll end up at a relegation rival and keep them up no doubt

I saw both games against Franchise FC and was impressed with several Crawley players. Kelly was very good but Orsi and Lolos also took the eye. I have seen Raith play several times this season too and really like the look of their goalkeeper Kevin Drabrowski. He is about 6' 5" and dominates his penalty area. Good shot stopper and with the ball at his feet. I don't get to snobbish about where the player comes from and use Szmodics as an example. If they are hungry and have some attributes that we can work on to make them Championship standard then I would go for them.

You make a very good point and as long as we properly scouted them and Eustace wants them here no problem. There is some very good talented players in league 1 and 2 who could perform at Championship level and improve our squad

Hopefully he does sign a new contract he is on lesser wage

All depends on the contract he has been offered and what the medical department says about Leg and whether he can play regular football now(I'm not professional medical trained person).

I want him on a low wage with incentive bonus on the number of games he can play. If that can't be done then don't sign him.

Think there are two points for consideration:

  • Come 31 August, our owners legally may no longer be in a position to continuing further funding for Rovers
  • Consider extracts from the accounts for year ending 30 June 2023:
  1. Strategic report - the directors have prepared cash flow forecasts through to June 2027 and "the company will require significant funding in addition to current facilities available to the company"
  2. Strategic report - the ultimate parent company "has confirmed it will not recall the amount outstanding of £123,052,900, included in creditors due in less than one year, within twelve months from the date of approval of these financial statements".  This therefore ends this calendar year.
  3. Auditors report - "a material uncertainty exists that may cast significant doubt on the company's ability to continue as a going concern".  Relates to the ultimate parent company's ability to remit funds to its overseas subsidiaries.
  4. Bank overdraft facility (at £15million in accounts) expired 10 May 2024 - would think the ongoing Indian court case will have cause some discomfort with the bank.  Banks do not lend money, even if they are secured, if they think there is a serious question mark against a company's solvency.

IMO, there is a chance Rovers will enter insolvency before the calendar year is out especially if the court case goes the 'wrong way' and the Raos decide to cut and run and claw back what they can from, IMO, one sorry mess.

Good luck if that gives you any warmth and reassurance!

Thing is Merce you’ve been saying this stuff for about ten years. And there is without doubt very plausible, rational reasons that you should be right… but none of this has been rational or plausible since day dot - so it’s why they very much  will be in situ at the end of the calendar year… oh and the next one.

Do we properly scout players?  Likes of Mola, Leo and Semir (to name but three) suggest we don't because if they have been "properly scouted" our recruitment department needs feckin sacking.

Gallagher sign a contract on a lesser wage - come on Chaddy, that really is fantasy island stuff.

Fleck - IMO, our medical department haven't covered themselves in glory in recent years!  Think any person, medical or otherwise, with a grain of common sense would steer clear of Fleck like the plague.  Injury hit and injury prone players are no use to Rovers.  Think Fleck makes Vince Grella look like Superman!

Fleck looked overweight and sluggish even in the few minutes he played for us before picking up his latest injury. Even with how mismanaged the club is I cannot imagine he will be offered a new contract.  Actually maybe Fleck will be the new director of football.
