Jay Haddow (former U21s player) doesn't seem too happy with how he was treated

https://www.scmp.com/sport/football/article/3269107/ex-blackburn-rovers-defender-ready-help-kitchee-return-top-hong-kong-pile

“Any time I asked about my plan, I received no clear answers,” Haddow said. “If I tried to look for a loan move, Blackburn provided no support. I played more than 60 matches in Premier League under-21 competitions, but my playing position was constantly changed.

“My coaches were fantastic, but some individuals were clearly hindering my development. I was relieved when I was allowed to leave at the end of my contract.”

Turned down a six figure fee with bonuses for him as well?

Steve Waggott, everyone!

Pears is bad but I don't get those who don't see this guy as worse.

£26 million from Ash Phillips, Kaminski and Adam Wharton since this time last year should have given us some money, but already it seems that has been forgotten about. So I doubt another £4-5 million for Raya is going to make an ounce of difference.

Whether we bring in £1 million, £10 million or another £20 million this summer I suspect the budget for fees is the same - very little - and on the wages front at the very most we can replace like for like so outgoings first then incomings to fill the void.

We offer crap wages so that's a big problem.

He got a bad shoulder injury mid May, I think he's now ok and back for Orlando

US intended to play their euro-based talent in Copa America.  Was more likely to make the Olympics squad (I think that comes out on Monday)

Steven Caulker has done an interview about his career this week.

I knew we were linked with Caulker but hadn’t realised we’d offered him a two year contract.

Offering someone a contract and then reducing it last second is straight out of the Steve Waggott playbook 😬

Didn't we pull out of the deal cos we instead moved for Hyam who was available for low price?

@chaddyrovers you were insistent the other week that we must have money to spend based on an assumption by Elliott Jackson near the bottom of an irrelevant article that you claimed must have been club approved.

Has that changed at all?

John Park will bring his own people into his department, so I wouldn’t read too much into the Head of Emerging Talent leaving. What “emerging talents” have we recruited over the past few years to justify his role? The only decent players we have signed in recent years were established pro’s in the championship and one from the Eredivisie.

Money is clearly a massive issue despite Waggot’s cock and bull stories. A change of tact is required. Get the likes of Tim Krul, Liam Cooper, John Fleck (if fit) to be the spine of the team then perhaps loanees to play in the wide areas. A centre forward gamble from Europe and another if we get a decent offer for Gallagher.

I can’t see any significant cash buys, except maybe those similar to Wahlstedt and Telalovic towards the end of the window.

John Park will want to build his own staff with the recruitment department in his own way and what he thinks we need to do in the future,

I've heard circa £30K/week last season in the Prem, If that figure is vaguely correct then no doubt a relegation wage decrease will have by now taken that down to £15Kish/week.

Still sounds well out of Rovers budget unless he is desperate for game time and has no other options

Why is he out of depth? We would have know his wages before we making a move for him?

Welcome back Chaddy,

I was genuinely worried about you for a minute there, don't think I have ever seen you go a day without posting before, and thought this week might have broken you.  Glad to see you are still as positive as ever.

In answer to your question, we would have known O'Brien's and McGuire's wage demands before making a move for them too, and it didn't help in either of those situations.

Edit - I think you are right with the first point that Hyam became available so we pulled out of the Caulker deal (which sounds like a sensible choice)

Both very different situations why those transfers didn't happened which is nothing to do with demands

Interesting I knew nothing about Caulker I heard we were interested years ago from Cardiff thank God Hyam has turned out fine. However this highlights the chaos & scatter gun approach to the Transfer window the way we somehow manage to mess up paperwork, send things far too late shift the goalposts on wages, fee's for players. Unfortunately in 14 years people running the club have learnt nothing & for me it's very simple if these clowns are unable to get themselves sorted out & start to Invest in this football club they should hold their hands up admit it hasn't worked & FFS sell the football club the mistakes they've made in 14 is quite frankly unacceptable!

I cannot access that article about Leicester as it is behind a paywall. But I am guessing that you have got your wires crossed and that is not a direct response to my point about your suggestion that a previous assumption made by Elliott Jackson that we have money to spend would have been authorised by the club. As this now doesnt seem likely.

I still wouldn’t be surprised by a cheap McGuire deal in the coming weeks. He’s turned down another contract at Orlando, they’ll be concerned about losing him for nothing.

Would also be an “I told you so” moment for Waggott who would claim to the press and owners that he’s cleared up a mess caused by others in January who have now been removed from the club.

Absolutely zero chance we spend any kind of money like that IMO. Unless something drastic changes it will be freebies and loans at best.

Are we still interested in Maguire? The people who wanted him have all left the club, plus Maguire sounded like he’d rather play in Outer Mongolia than play for us when he was interviewed.

Nar, McGuire basically said it would take a hell of a lot to come here, he wont be coming here.

Might go to Sheff Wed though, they had interest in him before.

Surely if it was a simple case of Hyam becoming available last minute, then we wouldnt have offered him 1 year, the offer would have just been withdrawn totally.

Its another example of us treating a player shoddily yet even now, people still give the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a reasonable strategic decision made in good faith.

Oh well..don't worry it

So what do you think of the previous assumption that a suggestion of funds being available suggests that the club had authorised and confirmed such news? Do you still expect a decent budget or has this changed?

Also didn't JDT say he wanted another centre back in that window? They would have signed both Caulker and Hyam if the owners had signed off on a 2 year deal
