They’re not playing him or letting him train with the group because they can’t afford for him to get injured.

Ipswich aren’t increasing their bid because they’re the only interested party and know we need to sell him.

I believe they call that checkmate.

"We" don't need to sell him at all. "We" have a player under a long term contract with value, you know the one time they should be sticking to thier guns value wise. Fact is Szmodics under last seasons form is worth more to us than £9m that "WE" will never see again.

The amount of people on here wanting to let our star player leave for under market value is quite shocking... especially after the Wharton situation in January

They had their asking price and didn't accept any offers until Palace met it. We can all argue on what that asking price should have been however.

They knowingly sold him for less than his worth. They did this so they didn’t have to pay a bond to the Indian Authorities. Let that sink in.

He's not saying 50% of the starting 11 are inadequate.

He's saying 30% of the squad is inadequate - which is pretty much universally agreed upon here.

He'd be correct in first instance.

Who said he's not training? Whoever is going to buy him will be livid - he'll be miles away from match fitness.

I thought we were just holding him out of friendlies after he pulled up against Stanley?

Eustace said today that he "hasn't trained with the group much" over the past couple of weeks.

The suggestion on the Ipswich side is a bit different to here. Basically that Ipswich were given an acceptable amount for Szmodics by Rovers, that was submitted, but then we decided to ask for more. Now there's a standoff because Ipswich feels it would set a bad precedent to give in to additional demands after an agreement was verbally struck, whilst Rovers aren't budging either.

No idea if there's any truth to the above, just what Ipswich fans seem to believe.

There might be some truth to that, would tie in with the folk who said there was a verbal handshake agreement on a certain fee between Szmodics, his agent & Rovers.

Would be very this regime to go back on that.

Szmodics hasn't featured in any of the limited media released by the club, be that training footage, interviews or friendlies.

It is obvious they are keeping him out of the way, both to avoid risking any injury, make it clear to the player he's not wanted, and to brace the fanbase for the departure.

Previous players linked with moves away have been involved and played in games despite interest. Usually it's the old 'he's a Rovers player and until something happens he's involved' line.

Kind of contradics the claim that Venkys are hard bargainers and won't be taken advantage of. In this case they've got no choice but to take whatever cash is put on the table.

Eustace on SS "At the moment, he hasn't trained or played for the last three or four weeks. We have to protect the lad as well".

What a terrible state of affairs and utter madness.  Should be number 1 on Waggott's to do list.  Needs to be locked in a room with Mark Ashton from Ipswich and neither leave until a compromise is agreed.  You simply cannot run a business like this nor treat key employees in this manner.

As is their prerogative, until the money is transfered both sides have the ability to pull out or change the terms. If this is the case then Ipswich clearly don't want Szmodics as much as Rovers... Move them on and get on with the show, they know the updated terms if they want him

I think Ipswich will wait to hear the outcome of the court case in India on 20th before they decide on a figure for Sammie. That way they could get him for less if as expected the case goes against the owners.

Risky tactic as at that point they won't be the only vultures circling, I'd wager.

Still, I understand their stance if we agreed a fee and then changed our minds. Wouldn't be a good look to just agree to that and let everyone know that they're a pushover.

It I were them I'd be looking elsewhere at this point. Maybe join the lottery and buy a ticket if we get desperate and end up flogging Sammie for a discount price.

Sorry but Sammie signed his contract. Someone wants to buy it out either Sammie should have had it put in his contract before signing it or they pay the requested amount by Rovers. Sammie himself could put in a transfer request to forgo his % to help the deal along but he wont do that... why is it always on the club to compromise?

He should be involved with the team until a fee is agreed.3 weeks this has been dragging on...put a bit of pressure on Ipswich by putting him on the bench Friday night.

I agree the club shouldn't just accept any offer but we are playing into bidding teams hands by leaving him out of training, pre season games..showing our desperation for the cash

Welcome to negotiations with Waggot. Nearly every playee negotiating personal terms gets the same treatment…why wouldn’t other clubs be the same?

Agreed. I don't care who it is, nobody should be left out of a squad or training no matter what. However we do it every single time.

He should be playing on Friday. If he wants to toss his toys and pout he’s only hurt his own chances of getting the premier league move he desires. Go out there score a brace then force your way out.

Why would we play a player who has missed most of pre season with the squad? Pretty silly

and therein lies an issue.  Seems Szmodics has missed so much of pre season (training and matches) that he's not fit - involve him and run the risk of him doing a groin / hammy / calf which could sideline him for weeks (potential sale gone).  It's mismanagement of the highest order and sadly we are now between a rock and a hard place.

Christ, that just shouldn't be allowed. Don't train, don't get paid. I hope it's actually hasn't trained 'much' like the other poster says, and that's because of the injury.
