Tracking our (outbound) loan players 24/25

I don’t think Garrett is good enough, Bristol Rovers obviously don’t either, it happens, unless we were taking the piss with all the failed loans we’ve taken from premier league clubs

I may be being unfair but I don’t expect any of those out on loan to make the grade to be honest

We gave virtually all of those players a fair crack of the whip. Sometimes an unfair crack of the whip (see Tyler Morton). We didn't see them get rave reviews in their first appearances, peter off a little bit in the next couple, then get dropped from the bench entirely and play them in far less games than they'd played the prior season in the Prem. I can't think of one example where that's happened here.

Batty not involved for Accrington drew 1-1

Batty was mentioned a month ago as having to undergo a late fitness test (a comment from the Accrington manager about him feeling the back of his knee).  However, he has not featured since, and I have not seen any further mention of the extent of his injury

Edmondson (probably) & Mullarkey-Matthews (unlikely as he hasn't featured for Bamber Bridge since August) may be in action against each other tomorrow night

Apparently Vale is doing his "return to training, rehab stuff" at Rovers (presumably we have better facilities & medical staff than Motherwell) and he will be back there "in a few weeks" (as of last week)

It's disappointing that the least interesting prospect is doing the best on loan.

I was hoping for big jumps by Garrett, Batty, O'Riordan et al. Markanday has already proven he's not good enough for the Championship.

I have to agree that he hasn’t shown anything in a Rovers shirt to suggest he can make it. Having said that, he hasn’t shown anything never really had an extended run and was rated highly at Spurs and is a real fans favourite at Saltergate. I would be happy to see him back and given a chance but given our current league position, it doesn’t look like a recall would work for either Rovers or the player.

Batty was having a good spell, been injured for the past month, and Accrington's form has dropped off a cliff since he has been missing.  1 win in the 7 he has missed

Garrett and O'Riordan, I agree, have had a wasted 6 months

I think a recall and a loan to League One should work for Rovers and the player, assuming there's interest.

I dont think it matters to us in terms of his Rovers future where he spends the second half of the season as his contract I think is up in the summer and he should be let go. If a League 1 club will pay us a small fee or more of his wages to take him then yes, but otherwise, its all about what Markanday needs as he looks to a future post Rovers.

He has a year option which will be triggered regardless, as even if Rovers do not plan on keeping him, they will be able to get a fee (with add ons & a sell on which will be the main concern)

I would say Markanday has proven he is not good enough as a winger, for the championship. Play him through the middle and he might have a chance. Markanday's problem is that we already have ( I suspect ), high paid cover for that position.

You have for a long while implied that Markanday could be a Champipnship standard attacking midfielder and I cant for the life of me understand what has drawn you to that conclusion.

Based purely on the warm-up drills he's the best finisher at the club. He just has absolutely zero physicality.

I guess Rigger's point is Markanday can be the playmaker and goalscorer from the number 10 position like I believe he is doing at Chesterfield and I haven;'t followed his games there tbh, He is a player who is skilful and can score goals but during his time here he has played from the right like many left footed players do now.

Markanday started the season on the right for Chesterfield, had a short spell as a 10, but has played the last 5 or 6 back on the right.  This could be for numerous different reasons.

I've just created a profile on the Chesterfield board to ask them what they think of him (aside from him being one of their best players which I always thought was a given considering he is probably playing at a lower level than his ability) & his best position, they have probably seen him more in half a season than we have during his time here. (but apparently I cannot post topics until I am approved, lol)

He did (from memory) play as a 10 with some success for Rovers during this pre season

Watching Markanday play for the U23's he was always at his most dangerous when he moved inside. He has a natural powerful shot. He possesses none of the abilities required of a decent winger.. Which games have you seen Markanday play that lead you to think that central is not his best position.

Maybe I am being pedantic with this statement, but for clarity, when he starts on the right, Markanday is played as a wide forward rather than a "winger" in the same way that Salah is used for Liverpool (I am not comparing their abilities, just their role)

Whatever you call the position, Markanday isn't the player to play there.  To use what abilities he has to the most effect, he needs to be central. I am not saying that he will make it there, in the championship, but it is his best chance. Let's see how the next two windows go, he might get the chance.

Not the position, the role.  Salah & David Beckham play/played wide on the right.  Both however, played completely different roles requiring completely different skillsets.

Personally feel Markanday could play as a 10, or a wide forward (not as a winger) on the right at at least League 1 level.  But I will leave that there.

Merry Christmas all x

There is very few wingers out there now. Most wide players cut inside like Salah does at Liverpool or Kulusevski at Spurs. Markanday is in the same mould.

Merry Christmas KentExile
