January Transfer window

As you would be for virtually every club in virtually every window if every time a rumour came out you said it wasn't happening.

Exactly.

Just a little light hearted joke pal you don't have to take it so serious 😉

Had a quick look at what could be some decent signings in January given who's currently available on a free or needs a loan move:

Free agents

1. Daniel Amartey (30), center back/ defensive midfielder

Ghana International
Last played for Besiktas (until Sep 2024)

Has experience of English football with Leicester for many seasons.
Would provide necessary cover at center back or defensive midfield with Travis, Carter and Wharton currently out.

---

2. Ryan Kent (28), left winger
Last played for Fenerbache (until Oct 2024)

Previously played for Glasgow Rangers together with Todd Cantwell and has experience from Championship football.
Quite skillful, pacy/agile and has a good shot with both right and left foot.
Wage demands and current club stature the biggest stumbling block. Maybe Cantwell can persuade him of a move?

---

3. Maxi Gómez (28), striker
Former Uruguay International
Last played for Trabzonspor (until Aug 2024)

Highly unlikely this will happen given he's never played in England before but would be a fantastic signing if pulled off.
Physical player who can compete in the air, good finisher as well.
English language is a barrier but wouldn't have any issues adapting to Championship otherwise.
Profilic goalscorer during his days at Celta Vigo and Valencia.

-----------------

Loan market

1. Marc Guiu (18), striker, Chelsea

Been scoring for fun in Europa Conference League albeit against weak opposition (scored a hattrick last Thursday). Signed from Barcelona ahead of this season.
Represents Spain at U19 level. Tall but technical player.
Doesn't get any playing time in PL so would need a loan to develop further.

---

2. Mikey Moore (17), left winger, Tottenham

Is eligible for loan after signing his first professional contract earlier in the year.
Would be a fantastic signing given his potential, has the ability to tear up the Championship like Harvey Elliott did a couple of seasons ago.
Already represents England at U19 level. Technical player with good balance and dribbling skills.
Has played a couple of games in Europa League but gets limited minutes in PL. Would therefore need a loan to develop.
Has been out due to illness recently but is expected to be back after New Year.

---

3. William Osula (21), striker, Newcastle

Fairly quick, tall and technical player. Newcastle bought him for a sizeable fee this season but hasn't been getting game time in PL.  Poor stats but certainly has the right attributes. Need a loan move as well. Represents Denmark at U21 level.

Shush, don't tell everyone, Some guy in Pune gave Waggott some magic beans, and Rovers will have a war chest just as soon as the beanstalk grows and Yuki come back down from slaying a giant or 2

Wasn’t there talk of signing a mate for Yuki?? Japanese striker likely out of contract in January??

Majority of his goals scored before a head injury in the summer.  12 in 12 (which may well have been a purple patch) before the injury .  7 in 20 afterwards

However, He is out of contract in January, so he is Waggotts favourite price

There's more effort and research been put into this one post than what will be put into Rovers actual transfer list.

As with every year, expect nothing and wait for them to disappoint you.

Interesting that Millwall paid £3m for Mihailo Ivanovic in the summer. Isn't that more than our entire transfer budget AFTER selling Adam Wharton, Szmodics and getting £4m extra for David Raya?

But we can't compete with giants like Millwall, their attendances are *checks notes* about the same as ours!

Plus in the summer they brought in...looks like nothing. And spent about 5 million. And last year they brought in 600k and spent about 6 million. Our tens of millions in surplus raised transfer revenue is nothing compared to that!

God, I wish fans would stop being ungrateful and remember it's not 1995....

In fact, Millwall seem to have had a net spend in the transfer market every season since 2018/19 (except the 2020/21 season where they neither spent nor received fees...well, 3 were signed for undiscloseds and 1 sold for undisclosed). In 2018/19 they received 7.8 million Euros for George Saville (and reinvested nearly half of it), which may be the only time in this period they've received more than the 670k Euros they got for Tyler Burey.

Technically this might not be fully accurate, as there have been 7 for which the fees aren't known...1 to a then Championship Wycombe, and the rest to lower leagues or inferior foreign leagues (Irish Premier Division). Doubtful those were big fees.

Finally, a sense of perspective.

People need to get real, we're a small town club not giants of the game like Millwall.

Not sure on the terms of the deal but surely they have something set in stone over Fleming who they loaned to Burnley?

No chance they have just loaned him there to have his wage covered

Or Rovers have been offered him by agent and would be interested if available but more interesting is Eustace says he is the type of striker he wants?

I'd rather have a striker who knows where the back of the net is rather than one who doesn't.

We have two of those already.

According to wiki it's a 7 mill obligation to buy at the end of the season. But that's not money now, and more to the point as my subsequent post states, they haven't been getting fees for a very long time now but spend a bit most seasons. Going back to 2018/19 there is only that summer and next summer where they've received a fee of note, and in 2018/19 they spent nearly half the proceeds, and have spent something in most seasons. If I recall rightly, when I looked they didn't receive fees in 2017/18 either.

Yet we consistently have large sales and apparently can't spend hardly any of it despite similar crowds.

Let’s hope we have a good January transfer window. No excuses.

Well lets hope we can find an quality striker, wide man and centre back
