January Transfer window

Think it's a likely scenario that Eustace will be gone by the summer if club doesn't back him in this January window and they subsequently miss out on the play-offs. Hope I'm wrong but feels like the owners don't care/believe the club can gain promotion back to PL and are just trying to recuperate as much money as possible before selling in 5-10 years (?) time. Given previous transfer activities for the last couple of years, the owners hasn't invested at all to strengthen the squad, just the bare minimum to keep it going or to stay somewhat competitive in the league without really pushing for anything better.

Not much as changed since the first day that they arrived...

Venkys Out!!

14 Years of gross mismanagement!

I can’t see any limit in the regulations.

Certainly on FM20, you could only swap out 2 players from your previously registered squad in January (I think not counting ones who had been sold or loaned out). They always base this kind of thing on the rules and are pretty accurate on the whole with only slight discrepancies. However, the rules may have changed.

I could be missing something of course (it happens often!) but this is the only relevant bit I could find:

Wondering who we're gonna end up with as a striker in this window, just can't see us signing anyone of note. So i've had a look at all of the out-of-favour, unwanted strikers at other Clubs.

At best, we might end up with Marcus Forss or Mileta Rajovic... not great I know.

However, realistically it'll probably end up being one of Scott Hogan, Tom Bradshaw or Lukas Jutkiewicz.

It's always going to lose money and we have very few assets left.

If they're planning to sell now is the time. They're just going to rack up larger and larger debts if they hold onto it.

Totally agree. It's not realistic to think that they'll ever get that money back without making a significant investment/gamble in the transfer market in an effort to gain promotion. Investment is always a level of risk, but then again you should ask them why they purchased the club in the first place if they had no knowledge of how to operate a football club or what it takes to be successful at it?

Last fiscal year (2024), the club posted a profit of £ 1,8 million which included the sale of Adam Wharton. In the year before, 2023, the club posted a £ 21 million loss. The club's debt in 2024 stood at £ 134 million. From these figures, everyone knows that the club is bleeding £ 20 million a year without player sales so for the owners to ever recouperate that money without investment, they would have to sell an A. Wharton + Szmodics every year for the next 10-12 years to clear that debt. Do the owners realise this? Do they think it's feasible to achieve? Don't know what they're really thinking or what they want to do with the ownership besides employing yes-men, not being fully transparent/honest with their intentions and stay away from any sort of criticism.

3 championship clubs apparently after Emmanuel Dennis. No mention of who they are but a good age and an improvement for me on other names being less linked so far

I imagine someone like boro going in for him...Seeing as they're probably loosing Lath.

We just can't compete.

As the 2024 figure (which you quoted) shows, they need to sell an A Wharton a year (a Szmodics wouldn’t do) just to stop the debt increasing.

The debt is going nowhere (other than up) any time soon.

They'll be getting another Adam Wharton instalment this month I would bet so that should be a few million coming in to pay Venkys' bills for another few months.

Should be pretty damn well clear to all now how the Club is being financed..we're Hand to Mouth.

There is NO Money for a Promotion push.Until we see serious Money spent this is the awful situation we all have to except at a Venkys run Rovers Circus.

Dreams of Fans and a capable, ambitious Manager crushed as usual in the cold Light of January.

I've got zero sympathy for Eustace if he is frustrated.

He watched exactly the same thing happen to JDT and would have had to have been willfully ignorant to have not been aware of it.

Not only that, but he came into the club and immediately spoke about the focus on survival and played his own (small) part in the continual lowering of expectations within the club.

So, now he should be surprised? Because we are doing a bit better than expected halfway through the season? He thought he would be the manager that got backing? Or that Rudy would get money to spend that Broughton didn't? Or that he would be loved in India because he didn't mention the coach for a while?

He took the job. I don't blame him. But the parameters haven't shifted. I feel sorry for the supporters. I feel sorry for some members of staff. But I have zero sympathy for the manager and his coaching staff and I'll have even less respect for him if he resigns for 'broken promises' that he should never have believed in the first place.

I very much doubt he would want you to feel sorry for him.

Forss has been injured rather than out of favour and the way its looking due to departures Boro will need him too....

Who knows what he was promised on taking the job?

Could’ve been ‘fuck all dosh here, John lad, but we’ll give you a nice salary and office, and we don’t sack folk, so nice cushy Championship number this, so up to you’ or ‘keep us up and due to some big sales we will have a competitive budget over the next couple of windows’.

Scenario one, yep, no sympathy, ‘lie down with dogs’ and all that. Scenario 2, does he have a right to be pissed off now? Only to an extent a he should’ve done his due diligence, but he also has every right to think what an unprofessional, ragtag operation this is and be getting his CV out.

You're right, but would you have trusted what they promised you?

After JDT. Lambert. Bowyer...

It's not like the past 12 months had been an anomaly. I understand why he would take the job because we're a relatively big club and there aren't that many better jobs going that he would have a shot at. You'd be unwise to turn many of them down in a world of 20 Premier League jobs and 24 Championship jobs.

That's fine, but he should have known that any promises made beyond getting his salary were to be taken with a pinch of salt the size of India.

He shouldn’t have trusted them, but from the outside you only ever get half a story, hearsay.

Now on the inside I imagine he’s still surprised by the lack of professional courtesy and ethics at this very strange football club.

I don't doubt that, I'm sure it's shocking for anyone, but there must be enough information circulating within the footballing world from either former coaching staff or players for anyone to do their due diligence and know what they're getting themselves into.

Let's say Venky's spend very little this window- i.e. not in any way commensurate with huge recent income. Is it in any way to bring that enormous club debt down to recoup and possibly....sell this summer?

Shut up please.

Let's talk about players coming in or going out in the January Transfer Window thread...
