January Transfer window

Teams around us are now spending money and strengthening, even West Brom have spent best part of £3mil on a midfielder! Looking forward to Chaddy’s reasoning for that, good players only become available later in the window?

Good players are available all window, as long as you have the money and the inclination to spend it. When you have neither, you’re waiting (like most) for selling clubs to give you that discount or become desperate for some cash.

How much later can you wait than 3 weeks into the window? Shoddy, pathetic, embarrassing recruitment from all involved. Again.

We sound quite a lot like the buyer and seller in that scenario.

The ONLY thing that matters is that we get the right ones. When we get then is going to be a bone of contention amongst the fan base, but ultimately, IF they get it right, then they’ll be forgiven-ish.

The big question is can they get it right. History says not, I hope history is wrong.

The suggestion from Nixon (I know) is that they would only consider going once they'd returned us from whence we came I.e. The Premier League.

Not easy to do when you're selling your best players and spending nothing on replacements.

Guys they will never leave as that will hurt them financially and the shenanigans sweeped under carpet will be out....

2 options is my only guess ...liquidation or administration

They will always just about do the absolute bare minimum to ensure either of these don't happen.

Considering there are now hardly any assets to sell, and with obviously no intent to bring any potential assets in, eventually we'll drop through the leagues but the one constant will be that our esteemed owners will always just about do enough to keep us in business.

We'll be even more of a shell than we are currently, and we'll look at these play off challenging days as "the good times" before long.

Utter tripe

I honestly don't see much in him..  Rothwell, was, and still is, a much better player..  For me Cantwell lacks the physical attributes, and, whilst playing in Blue and White, his finishing has been abysmal...   He's not a 'Bad player', however, in my opinion he's not half as good as what he's cracked up to be. Still one of our better players, although that doesn't take much...

When I referred to him as a slug, that was in reference to his lack of pace. I prefer a wide forward that can stretch teams and get behind the full back..   Prefer to keep him central for that reason..

As i've always said bro...we are not running on venky's money but SBI monies... the obvious plan is to run till instrument is called ..so i'm praying this happens soon , then all hell will break loose and we'll go into administration

On Cantwell, a luxury player that performs when the environment is right for him. He’s looked at his best playing passes in behind the back line. Our current predicament? Nobody is fast enough to get on the end of them, or more to the point, even bothers trying to get in behind. Couple that with 2 midfielders who despite being solid, never look up and pass forwards in Trav and Tronstad, I’m not sure how a player like him fits in with us.

Might be one we have to chalk off as a poor fit, depending how the next 4 months go. Could imagine him playing the number 10 role at Burnley with Koleosho, Sarmiento, Anthony etc. running in behind fullbacks and looking like a class above the championship. Same at Leeds with Gnonto and James. There’s no doubt there’s a good player in there, we’re just not seeing it.

Reading the comments on Cantwell and agree with most. Definitely needs to do more. Has the ability, doesn’t lack physicality has one suggested. I just think he lacks football intelligence in his running to go with his ability. Doesn’t work to find the holes or break the lines with his runs. Proved he can pass the ball but lacks once again intelligent running from our front men. Looks more up for it with Leonard up top than Gueye

It isn't the only thing that matters, though I agree it is the most important. It also matters when we get them. If we don't get them until 10 minutes before the window closes then we've got to get through games against Coventry, Bristol City and PNE. There's also a fair chance that someone signed on deadline day might not be fit and ready to start by the time we play QPR away. That's 12 points we could miss out on - season over if we lose them.

If we miss out on the top 6 by 3-4 points after losing to Oxford and tonight, or Saturday, I'll be allocating some blame to our once again dilatory and shambolic transfer window.

Rubbish, of course it matters when you sign them. Average points to be a playoff team recently is 74. We need 10 wins and 2 draws from 19 games to do that. We’ve already lost a very winnable game at the weekend due to lack of options and poor recruitment.

We have 4 more games before the end of the window, if we lose them 4 due to squad depth, that then leaves us needing 10 wins and 2 draws from 15 games. Season over at that point.

I've never understood this leave it late policy neither. Targets will have been identified since August so there has to be a sound knowledge of who we want. But it's the same every January window - as time moves on the urgency becomes greater and panic signings arrive on the last day. If anyone behind the scenes and the owners had any semblance of ambition the signings would have been made and we could have had them in for a few games now. I don't but this theory that prices are cheaper as the window gets closer to closing.

It's going to be mainly loans.

I was told that Pasha was telling people in the lounges against Portsmouth that Asante-Thomas was having a medical last Friday. If it's true (and I have no reason to doubt my friends word) then why didn't it happen? My guess is the Punekars wouldn't sign it off.

The quality of the striker will determine our season. If we dont get that quality in we wont get the playoffs.

It's will be interesting to see if Thomas-Asante plays tonight or whether we agreed a deal for him.

Nixon says Coventry haven't reject or accept our offer for him

BTA playing tonight won’t determine anything we could still sign him on deadline day

No doubt somebody will correct me if I.m wrong but at this time last season weren’t we on the same number of games and points ? Then we stayed in the league hanging on by our finger nails.  6 games that were considered as winnable, so far we’ve won one and lost one.

Possibly, but what I will tell you that’s parallel with this time last season, is we aren’t bloody signing anyone and it’s infuriating

Edit: Jan 20th 2024 we had 33pts

Currently we have 42.

We finished last season on 53

It is all part of the plan that is set up to fail..
