I tend to agree. Lambert talked the talk, apparently even observed Gardiola training sessions, but was, ultimately,  shit.

guardiola himself would be shit with the side lambert inherited,he only left because after negotiating selling jordon rhodes for big money and being promised the cash to rebuild the side, venkys then told him he could`nt have it,do you blame him for leaving??

Unrelated to the Venkys conversations going but currently watching Dundee Rangers. I asked in the SPL chat to no response.  Liverpool have a lad on loan here called Stephenson who plays right back and centre mid.  If anyone watched him, is he any good?  7+ rating this season, may be next year's Beck.

It seemed to me that Lambert came in  with a very lofty reputation but was a very poor man manager.

All went swimmingly for the first five games, after that he seemed to lose the players and it was all downhill after that.

From his point of view I think he viewed it purely as a short term stepping stone, if he got us promoted all well and good, looks like a genius, if he didn't, doesn't really affect his reputation and he can quickly switch to another Club rather than having to apply for jobs from a position of having been out of work for a while.

I don't doubt he may have been brought in as someone with gravitas to cushion the blow of a Rhodes sale but I doubt he gave two shiny shites about whether any of the money was reinvested or not.

Incidentally I was told at the time that Lambert never met or even spoke to the owners, all negotiations etc were handed by Suhail. I thought at the time it was a one off brainwave of his to try and bring in a higher profile manager to try and achieve promotion but knowing what we know know it tends to confirm he's always been the power behind the scenes.

Lambert clearly agreed to the Rhodes sale and made plans of what he was going to do with the money. Then they sold him and pocketed the dosh and left him with loans like Simeon Jackson and signing Elliott Ward.

Tbf and Graham and the midfielder who everyone initially rated and raved about whose name escapes me.

You’d think with the ridiculous turnover of back room staff we’ve had someone would have come out and spilled the beans on the shambolic goings on behind the scenes at the club, but they never seem to.  Are we just giving them a wedge of cash to keep quiet upon their departure? JDT especially seemed more likely than most to let rip, suppose it needs a journo to interview him who has an interest in Rovers though

It feels like it's stubbornness and a sunk cost fallacy with them now. They don't want to cut their losses because one year we might get lucky and avoid the New Year death spiral. Or maybe we'll produce a whole team of Adam Whartons at some point.

What's especially depressing is that if Eustace did get Rovers up through the play-offs, they probably wouldn't invest the Premier League money. Don't worry about getting relegated with a Derby level of points, we'll have a few years of lovely parachute money after that, and Balaji can impress his mates with a few jolly-ups at Anfield at the Emirates.

There's absolutely no way they know who Adam Wharton is.

Genuinely never thought he got a chance here. He must have looked shite in training.

I agree that he never got a chance, as with all strikers an early goal is critical. I think he hit the post at Hull on his debut and then there was the late one that he should have buried at St Andrews. It rarely goes well for a striker if they fail to find the net early on, Grabbi had a lot of talent and was very unlucky early on and his confidence just couldn’t deal with it.

Telalovic has now scored his fourth goal in the same game. He was written off to early here...needed time to adapt.

Maybe Gregg did know what he was doing after all

Certainly knew how to get a contract extended for someone in the first team squad, which has not happened since his departure

I really liked Broughton and JDT. They were just never backed by the people that hold the purse strings.

Do we have an resale clause?

likely, because we probably didn't get much of an up front fee for him, so would have hoped a sell of fee might even things out

If he goes for a decent amount, then that's another 6 months Venkys will get away with not funding us before it all implodes

Looks like he can even sign players now too

We are delighted to welcome Jonathan Bamba to Chicago as our fifth signing of this transfer window, and our first DP signing this year.

5th signing in 1 window! we can only dream!

Imo The coach and DOF model might have worked had we appointed a half decent DOF. Unfortunately we appointed a great coach but an absolute duck egg in Broughton who wasted most of the limited money we had and who was instrumental in a couple of monumental deadline day fuck ups. Had we appointed an experienced DOF with a good eye for a player alongside JDT it might just have got us over the line despite the relative lack of backing.

As we seem to have bizarrely changed tack completely and swiftly abandoned the model we might never know if it will work here or not.

We didn't, Its the same model, just Broughtons job is/was now done by a combination of Gestede, Adam Owen, Stuart Jones (whilst he is still here) & John Park (when he was here) all with non director job titles, which means their combined pay is likely less than Broughtons

Cost cutting exercise

Not sure about that really, anyhow the current head coach is more interested in Championship experience and less interested in developing players for show and future value than the last one so there's a complete difference in emphasis there.
