............and if we'd have lost, (and let's be honest that was the general expectation), we'd have been one point ahead of Cardiff and only four above the relegation zone.

I think you misunderstood my post.

I didn't mean that we were cutting down any trees or had any reason for self congratulation.

I meant in context of going into the game on the crest of a slump, it was a big result.

oh ok.

We were the better team for most of Stoke game so was pleased that our first half performance today showed that quality.

Pears is just an average Championship keeper. Pretty much every keeper in this league has the ability to have a blinder or a shocker on any given day.
I imagine that, on the way out of the ground today, most Cardiff fans would happily have swapped Pears for their keeper (who had a shocker for Bakers goal) in much the same way we were raving about Stoke’s keeper on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, after a very poor run of performances last season, he has become something of a scapegoat for many and even when he does ok they aren’t willing to give him any credit.
I heard two guys on the way out of Ewood on Wednesday blaming him for not saving Stoke’s opener - then they saw it on the tv screen, admitted that it was a fantastic strike that Pears couldn’t have done anything about and then finished with ‘…he’s still shit though’

It seems from reading on here that Hedges falls into the same category - he played ok today, but is still singled out for criticism by some

Think I’ve been suffering from some kind of burnout from Rovers, so for the first time in as long as I can remember I didn’t even watch us today. Looks like the dropped a bollock. If someone would have predicted a 3-1 away win today I’d have told them to put the crack pipe down. Cardiff in great form at home and us distinctly lacklustre in front of goal.

Some really good goals after watching the highlights, reminiscent of the Derby away goal a good few seasons back, was it Marvin Emnes who has the finishing touch I can’t remember, I’d certainly had a few that day

Literally the last thing we needed now was an international break……

Danny Graham scored the team goal at Derby

The main thing when your playing well and on a losing streak, is not to fall into despair, keep playing well and your losing steak ends. I tipped us to bounce back  and win against cardiff in midweek.

I agree about the Baker goal. It was a well directed shot,  but really ? The keeper should have just thrown his cap on it. If that had have been Pears ?

Ignore the league position, we're not pushing for promotion.... we're really not. This team is is not good enough to finish in the top 10 IMO.  I look at today as a welcome 3 points in the season-long battle to stay in this division.

Bullshit! when we get our act together, we are capable of beating any team in the Championship. If your 2pts off the play offs dream the dream and go for it.

Think that was arguably Travis’ best ever performance for us today. Quality.

I commented the other day that Travis should score more. He didn't score but set one up and was trying to play more attacking football. It was good to see.

How many passes for the first goal? 30+? Most of them were 5 yards sideways and backwards before Pickering switched it but it was a long possession.

Think the commentators said 42 passes

He has been much better this season, and maybe I am sceptical because of his history, but he doesn't inspire me with any confidence. Eustace has organised the back 4, Pears is benefitting from that (Hyam too).

He doesn't gather enough balls. He's good at tipping efforts over and wide (he had 2 today) but struggles with shots straight at him. His distribution is also iffy.

I too thought that Hedges played well today.

Maybe, just maybe, if we can stay close to the top six by Jan we can get the recruits we need to go for it. If we can also get our long term injuries back then who knows what might happen.

Not sure what game people were watching saying hedges was poor...he had a brilliant first half (the best we've seen him) and slowly faded away second, but so did a lot.

His link up play with Ohashi and Cantwell is what we need to see more of.

I agree he played well today, except when it came to finding the final pass, getting a shot away and as a result, missing good chances.

Its the sideways and backwards passes that suck opposition players in, creating space so that it can be switched.  When the game is level, or when the opposition is chasing the game, its a useful tactic if you can beat the press.

The problem Rovers have, is that they also employ the same tactic when we are behind and the other team has no need to press us to get the ball back and are happy to let us waste minutes passing the ball between Pears and the defence

Completely agree with your comments on Travis.  I thought he had a great game today

Great game. Travis really has improved this season. I think he's cut out a bit of his antics, especially as of late as he will miss a match if he receives another yellow card. Focus on the football, he's more than good enough.

First away win, now we need to win a midweek match and get a penalty and most of our poor streaks will have ended.

I am usually a fan of Hedges, and no one can question his work rate off the ball.... But think today and every game hes had on the left he just seems so unsure what to do when he gets into the final third. He tends to come inside onto his weak right foot, congests things, and picks a poor shot / pass.

For a left footed player it's so odd how uncomfortable he is to go outside his full back on the left.

What a great day.

Great fans

Great game

Could have been worse but Pears did well (surprisingly!)

The Baker goal was great!!! Needed that.

Can't believe JE said it took them 7hrs to come down on the bus. Ridiculous.

Great away win finally.

Great game rovers. Great fans.
