He couldn't play as a pivot in a 4-2-3-1 - receiving the ball facing his own goal and playing on the half turn wasn't his game.

He's had a new lease of life under Eustace - he's turned him back into a box-to-box CM.

Yeah, box-to-box is certainly his strength

Brilliant first half performance I thought only let down by poor finishing.

Then for some reason in the second, Weimann is taken off and the gameplan appears to completely change. Everyone's blood pressure rises, we invite pressure, we stop the excellent pressing we did in the first. Was very fraught till the third went in and a shame we couldn't take away an otherwise well earned clean sheet.

Overall 3 goals and 3 points.

Pears has been good for weeks

I think that's generous - the defence is a lot more organised and well drilled and he's benefited from that.
Even the Swedish lad we had last season would have kept clean sheets in those matches.

He remains a liability and isn't good enough to be a top-half Championship number 1 - see Viktor Johansson for an example of what is.
But, again, he did well today.

Thought their number 27 up top was exactly what our side is missing. Held the ball well, intelligent distribution and brought play in around him.

is that colwill???i agree he was very good and exactly the type of player we need, though in yoshi`s defence he was excellent today, but he`s not going to hold the ball up and hold defenders off

Think this is probably the best allround performance weve had in a long time. Apart from one mad moment from JRC weve been really great....GK, defence, midfield up front all looked excellent. Travis, Tronstad, Cantwell looks a top centre midfield, ohashi looked way better than he has recently. Really thought with losing Carter defence would be in trouble but its coped very well.

Only downsides are Hedges who continues to really struggle wide left, JRC moment of madness and big Mak offering nothing again.

Big Mak offered nothing? He came on with 10 minutes left to be a bit of a spoiler, defend from the front and see the game out, whilst a couple of bits of hold up fizzled out he did ok with what he had to do I thought.

Decent use of his limited talents

I'm actually not sure of his name - had white hair and pink boots, I think.

And agreed on O'Hashi, one of his better games for us but just lacks that strength to play as a lone striker for me.

Honestly think the last 2 games have been out best 2 performances of the season.

Wednesday we came up against an inspired keeper, but no stopping us today with 3 great goals.

Travis outstanding, having to play on the edge knowing you're a yellow card away from suspension , credit to him.

Shout out to Pears as well , who for me has done nothing wrong recently ( in fact most of the season)

💙🤍

Yeah, we’ve been excellent the last 2 games, passing the ball quicker and getting up the pitch. We have a slow team so unless we pass the ball quickly we struggle. Last two games we’ve been really crisp with our passing. We’ve looked really good at times. Our first goal today was exceptional.

He's really matured as a captain this season. That change of scenery at Ipswich has done him the world of good.

Yes, I am sure it was a deliberate plan by Tomasson and Broughton to help in his development lol

Seriously, though, maybe something positive has come from what was a negative decision..

Well-deserved win in the end. Played some good football at times, first two goals came from excellent moves. Team has shown that they can perform in this league, now they need to do it consistently and have belief in their abilities. I understand that Eustace went a bit cautious after 2-0 up but they nearly threw that lead away anyway. Much better when they're not playing as many long balls, need to continue doing that and pick the right moments for when to go direct instead. More confident now that they can have a decent season by finishing mid-table and build on from there.

Johansson has been slaughtered by Stoke fans on a good few occasions this season, have a look at his thread on their forum, although he was brilliant on Wednesday.

Pears has been solid all season on the whole, you've made up your mind and changing the circumstances to suit your opinion. All this liability and ticking time bomb talk has been going on for months, without him actually being a liability.

They all make mistakes, Johansson is right up there.

Great effort, i said we don't seem to be able to mix it up in terms of attack/defend/press etc but we did today and it was long overdue.

Second half after 60 mins sit back subs nearly ruined it but thankfully the heads didn't drop today and attacking intent remained. Trav outstanding just shading the MOM from a couple of others but that really was his type of game.

Pears this season has looked like a steady keeper who could be worth a million or so to someone when the next round of sales to pay bills begins, who have thunk that eh ........ 😉

Well, every time I have seen Johansson against us, he has been world class.. Maybe, Cardiff fans will be saying similar about Pears!

Yeh nervy most of the 2nd half they were all over us, and when we did win the ball back we made too many mistakes/misspasses. 1st half we looked excellent.

Trav on fire, and thought Pears & Ohashi very good. Cantwell also the only one who can turn bad possession into good possession and transition us.

I find Hedges a funny one, have said it before. I think the teams better with him in it, but individually he does look lack a bit of end product on final balls.

I don't really think the Ipswich loan has anything to do with Travis' current performances. He's had good runs of form in the past as well - just very rarely under JDT. The two just didn't work well together. The whole reason Ipswich wanted him was because it's clear to most (outside of portions of the Rovers bubble, anyway) that he's a perfectly decent Championship level performer who can reliably step in and have a solid, generally predictable game. He suffered under JDT simply because the system JDT played didn't suit Travis at all, which happens sometimes. Eustace's way of playing is something Trav can work with, and so he's back to being largely dependable in his role.

Thoroughly deserved 3 points. That’s the best game I’ve seen Trav play for us, his breaking forward made the first two goals and he seemed to be everywhere. Also the best game I’ve seen from Pears - hilarious he got booked for his terminal indecision - and also Ohashi, who surely is now firmly first choice. Also hilarious that Bucko got booked despite not touching the ball once in his 15 mins. JRC looks finished - wouldn’t surprise he if he went in Jan - and Baker making a big point to our no excuses manger who whines about a small squad but only ever picks from the same 14.

After some horrible results that’s a welcome and unexpected 3 points. It sort of makes up for the Watford game, which we didn’t deserve to lose. The team still has significant weaknesses that need addressing but that’s a big confidence boost today

Pears, Trav and Weimann played excellent. No one was poor really. Stupid moment from JRC, could have cost us. Super finish from Baker. Should be used more Gueye and Buckley not up to much regardless of it be a cameo. Delighted to get the win 😁
