Should we start to get worried about the complete lack of new contracts since Broughton left? Whether you rated him or not, he seemed to do a very good job of securing our talented players to long term deals on a regular basis but I can't recall anything of note since he left.

Off the top of my head surely you would be looking to tie down regular players like Hyam, Travis, Brittain, Carter, Tronstad etc?

Is this a cause for concern or do we see deals getting done soon?

Off the field is a constant revolving door of staff with people leaving and of course the backdrop of delays to the owners.

There are some players that I would be happy to see leave barring a sudden change, Dolan, Hedges, Sigurdsson etc. But the players you mention we need to try and build some security with.

Think we have Carter until 2027 so no immediate rush on him, all the others though are up within the next 18 months.

I have no faith that we'll do anything with them.

I would consider offering Batth a one-year extension and tie Hyam down for maybe a 2-year contract. Dolan has high market value given his age but has consistently underperformed this season; work rate alone is not enough when you're an attacking midfielder/winger. Yesterday against Middlesbrough was yet another example of him being wasteful in front of goal and not setting up his teammates when they're in good positions. Wouldn't mind him leaving by the end of season if his wage demands are too high. Same with Hedges. Sigurdsson has some good qualities but looks like he doesn't want to be here to be honest. Weimann will turn 34 next season, won't be able to play week in week out so not sure about him. McFadzean is just too old to compete for a starting spot, club needs to sign a new central defender during next summer window.

None of the players mentioned will get new deals.

One glance at the lack of new deals for established players over the last 5 years tells us all we need to know.

If you are a proven experienced Championship standard player you will want and expect a wage and package in keeping with that status. The 'new regime' at Ewood will not allow this and so those players will go elsewhere.

Broughton did indeed oversee a raft of new contracts but actually when you scratch beneath the surface most of those were younger up and coming players from our academy or from League One and not in a position to command more.

They will pretend that this is just the way of it, that poor little Rovers are trying their best but simply cannot compete.

Some will believe this.

Myself and others won't believe it and will instead see it simply as the next phase of Waggott's downgrade, saving thousands more on the wage bill, allowing assets to walk for nothing/knock down fees but he doesn't care because their wages are off the balance sheet come the end of the year and that will justify it. He will think that replacements can be sourced for lower cost and will be happy with a couple of seasons of relegation risk as part of that equation.

Without wishing to sound like Im defending the Club on this,  personally the only one of those I'd see as a priority to get tied down would be Carter as he's the only one with any sort of resale value. On current form I'd also say Travis was well worth a new deal.

The others, I'd say it's a fairly close run thing whether you'd be wanting to give them a new contract or offload them. They nearly took us down last year and but for Szmodics we'd have been toast. I'd be looking for a massive improvement in performance levels and consistency before handing them new deals.

Imo this wouldn't be a  Brereton/ Lenihan /Rothwell/ Nyambe type type catastrophe where we'd be seeing outstanding performers and very valuable assets just walking out for nothing.

All that said, based on past performance, Waggott probably won't even get a new deal for Carter done which we can't afford at the best of times and certainly not in our current financial predicament.

Surely also Tronstad?

I would imagine given their age, Batth and Weimann will be easy enough to extend towards the end of the season if they are still worth a squad place.  If they carry on as they have done, then I assume both will be extended.

Hyam and Hedges both have extensions until the end of next season which will be triggered.  Eusatace is obviously a fan of both

As per the other thread, Tronstad I'm not a particular fan of, but never fear if he's as good as everyone seems to think we'll be able to sell him for £20m if negotiations break down.

Batth, Weimann, Hyam and Hedges. Really?

I think Batth's been very good considering his age (much better defender than Hyam for me) but really if we're re-signing that lot it screams of lack of ambition and being happy to plod on finishing lower mid table at best.

Bizarre leap that you have taken with the Tronstad discussion with that statement.

Barring us getting new owners before the end of the season, and therefore I am assuming that our finances are not improving in the short term, then yes, I think those 4 players they will be extended.  As I said, Eustace is obviously a fan, they are currently in and around the team, and thus likely require very little effort to extend, which is perfect for those who run the club.  Obviously if for whatever reason, the financial situation changes, then it is a different discussion entirely, but for now, that is not our reality.

Hyam and Hedges are easy to just trigger the option to kick the can down the road another year, so we'll definitely do that.

Wiemann and Batth I could see agreeing new one year deals too just to pad out the squad.

Sigurdsson has been a weird one. Has clear ability but there's never been a single period where he's looked fit and when he does play he just looks out of position wherever he plays🙈

I'm sure he'd do very well at a slower paced European club though, i think we should at least try and get a bit of money for him in January

Im not sure with our limited resources that playing a decent amount necessarily means that the manager rates a player.

Hyam should be signed up, good Championship defender when not being asked to play in a wide open team. Weimann and Batth should wait until the end of the season, no reason to rush considering their age. Hedges I dont see the merit realy of keeping even allowing for budget restrictions.

It's obvious that Sigurdsson is on his way, whether that's because he isn't interested or whether that is because the 'powers that be' have identified him as too expensive and disposable and are determined to get shut we will probably never know, but expect him to be gone sooner rather than later.

Now what a club with a semblance of plan, sense, long term strategy would do is then divide Sigurdsson's wage up between 3-4 remaining players - your people like Carter, Travis, Hyam - and offer them pay rises and an extra couple of years on their deals. None will be on big money by Championship standards.

Net result is that we lose Sigurdsson (no big loss on this season's contributions, though I do think he's capable of much more) but protect the situations with a few of our remaining senior players, and it doesn't cost us much, if anything.

This won't happen because the money off in wages will be put towards saving the owners money and into Eustace's meagre transfer (loan) kitty, they will kick the contract situation down the road until the 11th hour hoping that the players cave in and accept whatever dismal terms Waggott has planned, then realise when it is too late that 7-8 rival clubs would happily take them off our hands for nothing and pay them more.

All of course completely unforgivable and unacceptable at the best of times, but when it is only a few years after the Rothwell, Lenihan debacles and even less time after bringing in a staggering sum of cash from Wharton, Szmodics and others then it is disgusting.

If a club comes in, Rovers have to sell Dolan in January, I feel. Really, it should have been sorted in the summer or  before, either way. But it's obvious he's going, barring the unlikely promotion. That said, I can't imagine Rovers would get a lot for him, given it's got to this late stage and he's been very inconsistent.
