You can foresee it without writing about it. I personally thought that performance at the Turd gave us an appetite for the return. A good chance of winning after all these years.

But you keep on defending the club's actions whatever they do, you're well known for it.

That didn’t take much.

So you expected us to sell the ground out because we drew with them earlier in the season, despite not coming close to shifting this many tickets for over 7 years?  Maybe write it down next time.

I don’t know what they’re playing at with the upper tier of the BBE and it’s a shame that a game with so much demand will still see 3-4k seats empty in the Darwen End, which is not a good look. Saying that, I dont think anyone expected the game to sell this well.

See 2nd post on this subject above from me. You'd have to be deaf, blind and dumb not to expect this game to be so keenly anticipated.

Don't agree. We had our best result for years against Burnley and were robbed of victory by a terrible off-side decision and we can ten men for a long period.

Additionally we've just won 6 in a row!

Plus its the New Year period when fans come back home from all over the place and want to recreate their childhood memories.

The appetite for this game is immense and I think it was absolutely forecastable (if that word exists!).

Anyway the Club should be creating a positive message about this game form the off not reluctantly opening up yet another area as the demand becomes apparent even to them.

Biggest turnout for walk ons for a full price league game in c40 *years*? You expected that for a game at £33 to £40, on Sky when we were plodding around second division mid table when they went on sale? Most folk have gone back home from all over the place by 4th Jan, it’s not Boxing Day when that is the case, we drew a game there four months ago, is that some big event? The six game streak wasn’t on the horizon when they went on sale, Nobody could have foreseen this, so let’s not pretend otherwise.

*However, that doesn’t mean the 1,000 seats the club are deciding not to sell shouldn’t be put on sale right now, they have foreseen the demand this past couple of weeks so no excuses.

We won't agree, you've ignored the evidence I gave. Leave it there.

I bet if the club came out with a figure right now it wouldn’t be 24k. It’s all guesswork as we don’t know what the  ‘true’ capacity is anymore, especially when it comes to how many corporate seats will be full in JWU central as they are always greyed out.

I have addressed your provided ‘evidence’, I just disagree with it.

The club could not have possibly envisaged weeks and weeks ago when this went on sale that we’d sell more full price walk ons for this than any league match in 40 years. Just ridiculous to say otherwise (and I say this as a staunch critic of the club’s commercial operation).

The ticket sales show that despite all the nonsense of the last fourteen years the support is still there if the interest is resurrected. Hopefully someone somewhere with deep pockets has noted this rather like Jack did with the turn out for the full members cup final.

It's been well noted for years. It just requires these cunts to sell.

Obviously some skeletons buried in the books they don't want to be unearthed.

I’m surprised anyone is surprised we’ve sold a load of tickets. We’re doing well, it’s Christmas. We’ve always had a sizeable fanbase that materialises in those circumstances. Most clubs do.

The ticket price is irrelevant too for a one off game. We’ll be straight back to 12k-13k home fans for Pompey and Cov.

If we get to the play offs we’ll have to open the top tier of the BBE again.

‘Twas ever thus.

It was always going to sell well, but nobody foresaw this well, including the club who were obviously caught on the hop. But that’s football, circumstances and momentum can lead to surging demand. So let’s enjoy the occasion and drink in Ewood in all its glory.

However, one off games aren’t important in the grand scheme of things, like you said games coming straight after will be 12k - the vital thing is to increase that base level so every week sees a substantially busier ground.

How? Sell more seaso…

We’ve done better than this and not sold as many tickets. It’s been 7 years since we last needed to open the BBE upper.

A qoute from their MB:

They are a tin pot club, with tin pot fans. They’ve been in our shadow for over 10 yrs now, and long may it continue. “ MIND THE GAP, MIND THE GAP, ******* ROVERS, MIND THE GAP, MIND THE GAP I SAY”!!!!

Get these nomarks put into their place and their bitter fans Gobs shut Rovers.

We have the fanbase, but not every game or season captures the imagination. This season, and Boxing Day and the derby in particular, have.

And I’m not sure when we’ve ’done better’ over the last 7 years? Our points total at this stage is as good If not better than any season I can remember since relegation.

Momentum has been building in recent weeks. As stated, we always have the potential to sell a lot of tickets if the planets align, as they are at the moment. It’s always been the case in my 40+ of watching Rovers, and always will be.

They’re rattled, they know their position as a club primed for promotions and resulting PL seasons is looking much more shaky than it was. They don’t get back before the parachutes run out, they won’t get back and they’ll be back in front of their 10k gates in their wooden shack before they know what’s hit them.

Hopefully we won't have to wait long for them to be scratching round in the bowels of the football league in front of crowds of 1200 again.

Not every game captures the imagination?? This is the first game in seven years we’ve had to open the top tier of the BBE and shaping up to be the best home attendance we’ve had in the Championship since the early 2000s.

To be fair I haven’t checked the exact points totals but from memory we were 2nd in the table under Mowbray going into February 2022 and a year later we were in a similar position to where we are now under JDT. At no point did we see gates like this.

Its hardly a complaint, more just an observation that whilst it’s not surprising this game has sold well, I don’t think anyone could have expected it would do this well.

But we did have 27000 against Oxford in League One.

That was a tenner for a promotion party/ceremony.

Nuance seems to be getting lost here. So:

When this game went on sale a month ago did anybody (club included) expect to sell more full price walk ons for this than any league game in 40 years? If you say you did you are lying, pure and simple.

However, since then a combination of it being that lot, good form and tickets being on sale through December, I.e ideal presents, folk getting together and thinking ‘yeah let’s go down to that one’ etc. means we’ve had the mother of all spikes in demand.

The Rovers wider fanbase is sleeping, but still there.

Yes, not every game captures the imagination, which is why the BBE is now being opened. It hasn’t been opened  since Oxford because no other game has captured the imagination like the upcoming dingle game, even though, as you say, we’ve been in good positions before this in the league. You made my point for me.

Maybe I’ve not understood the discussion properly, but mine was just a general observation that ticket sales like this are always possible at Ewood, regardless of price, for a one off game in the right circumstances. The fan base has never changed in that regard, despite 14 years of dickhead owners.
