For me, Tronstad has been our player of the season thus far.  As a defensive midfield player I don't think I've seen many better in this League this season.  He and Travis had a wonderful partnership and, in fairness, I don't think Baker has done too badly since he came in although doesn't have the same drive as Trav.  For me Tronstad is one player who deserves an extension to his contract.  Never get less than an 8 out of 10 every game from that guy.  His job is guard that back four and he does it wonderfully well.  Of course, he'll make the odd mistake, all players, even the greatest, do, but for me he is the first name on the team sheet every game.

I would say Travis and Tronstad are standout performances follow by Hyam, Brittain, Beck and Batth. Pears, Ohashi and Pickering next

Really don't agree but leaving aside my views on Tronstad I'd say Batth,  and before his injury, Travis are our players of the season by a mile. Beck a creditable 3rd.

Back on Tronstad I think we're now seeing how generally ineffective he really is without an all round player like Travis alongside him. You would no doubt disagree so let's see how we go on with a theoretically slightly easier run of fixtures to come.

We're talking about BLACKBURN Rovers here.

Are you sure you're watching the right team?

After watching the policing operation today I couldn't help reflect on my first experiences of this derby.  Rovers and Burnley fans mingling peacefully together on the Longside at the Turf.  Fans from both sides enjoying a laugh and a joke without a hint of violence between fans and just the odd policeman here and there.  But above all, everyone enjoying a game of football and the players - the likes of Dougie, Clayton McIlroy, Adamson, etc competitive and the field and friends off it.

Today it's a military operation and the game and atmosphere not an enjoyable experience.  Looking at the numbers of police deployed all over town today it was hard to believe that this was all due to 90 minutes of football.  I feel that somewhere along the line we've lost all sense of proportion when it comes to this fixture.

I thought today's game was awful - two side terrified of losing - with little creative football being played by either side.

That's what a derby is though you don't know when or if it'll kick off. Plus they had to frog march from both sides of town. Those that got off in blackburn Town centre and those by coach at Golden cup side

I agree.

I think Tronstad is an absolute gem. I would be very surprised if he doesn’t collect the player if the season award, if he carries on with his current level, for the rest of the season.

With or without Travis in the side, he does a lot of the dirty work and contributes massively, to our lack of goals conceded.

Sorry if i missed it earlier in the thread but was Eustace saying to Parker at the end??

seemed pretty agitated

Parker instead of being respectful and heading to shake hands with JE he went off in the moment leaving Eustace stood on the byline waiting. Classless tbh

you mean in the 11 minute of the game and the cross that almost picked out Dolan? the cross is too far and deep ahead for Gueye to reach it. Its about 10 yards away from Gueye but Dolan almost got the end off.

I said ACD was far too deep, I don't think he is good as you do. different opinions.

It was, but I'd love our wingers to just do that all game - whip crosses into the danger area.

Eventually a CF / CAM / opposite winger is going to gamble and get on the end of one.

That cross was by far the best thing ACD did all game.

This derby still means everything, your Prem derbies cant hold a torch to it.

We hugely missed Travis' and Ohashis energy.

Burnley were very solid. They have conceded 9 goals! It's no fluke and a sign of how they set up , everyone knows how to do the ugly stuff and if they go up it'll stand them in good stead more than last time, more Dychy. Having an unlimited budget for this division helps of course !

Plenty of stronger squads have also failed to break them down. For a team managed by Scott Parker and with the moaning their entitled fanbase want I expected some weaknesses we could exploit only really felt that either pressing high or just dropping balls on top of their keeper would do anything. Which we did neither.

I wouldn't have started Gueye, in order to attempt the former and would have brought him on for the latter, but our approach seemed muddled.

Eustace has no more juice to get out of this lemon, he needs backing now, 1 look at that bench and their is nothing. He set us up to not lose and we nearly managed it, he knows this team running on fumes. This game coming when it did , with this squad killed us.

As for Burnley, time wasting etc, not nice but we do it ,can't get worked up about it, up to a ref to be on top of it.

I despise seeing them and that really included their players celebrating. Really small time and inciting behaviour again, don't recall our teams ever doing that. The prick with the corner flag 🤬.

It's their time now, but the natural order will be restored and in spectacular fashion if they dont go up this year.

That was literally the most attacking lineup we could put out there (save changing formation entirely). He did the same against Millwall - tried to win it rather than simply running Dolan / Hedges out there as defensive wingers and trying to nick it.

We weren't scared of losing, we just simply don't have the horses.

The players are a reflection of their manager.

Time wasting, feigning injury, cynical kicks every time a Rovers player got the advantage on them. Horrible, horrible team.

Regardless of the result and performance, myself and many have commented about not letting that lot have the whole Darwen End. Games are won on the pitch not in the stands. We can’t afford to turn down potential income when it’s available.

We've allowed £40m of transfer fees to disappear. Where do you think an extra £100k in gate receipts would go?

I once saw an interview with a top striker (can’t remember who)  who said the trick to meeting a cross was to know where the ball was going to land almost as soon as the ball, eft the wingers foot. That’s a skill in itself whether you are 5ft  or 6ft6. That’s why Gueye is nowhere near the ‘target man’ striker people want him to be.

You'd think our CF being 6'5" with a leap on him would give our wingers a large margin of error. Alas they rarely cross it to test that theory.

If Tronstadt was creative, or could drive us forward, he would be the full package (and wouldn’t be here). There is a bit of truth in what Rev is saying in that in order for the midfield to ‘work well” he needs someone alongside him who has one (or both) of the above attributes. This year Trav has been a revelation in trying to get the ball and move it up the pitch quickly. He is no longer anchored back. Baker doesn’t seem to work anywhere near as well.

That’s not a diss on Sondre. He’s in the top 3 performers almost every game.

Do you know we would have taken more points if it was Tronstad out rather than Travis?

Travis and Tronstad play different roles for the team Travis is more box to box whilst Tronstad sits and breaks up play more.

They have worked  tremendously as a pair  ,the midfield would suffer with either of them out.

At the end of the day Tronstadt was voted player of the month consecutively the last 2 months and nearly every single rovers fan I know rates him highly,as do the other players and Eustace

I doubt we would as Travis would have dropped in to the Tronstadt role, and Baker would still have come in.

Absolutely top post.

As galling as it is to see them celebrating like that it's also pretty funny as it just shows how small time they are and that we will always live rent free in their tiny minds.

You're right, we didn't celebrate like that when we absolutely hammered them 5-0, we just moved on to the next one as we were always going on to bigger and better things. For them this is it, next year if they manage to go up they'll no doubt be spending another season embarrassing themselves on and off the pitch and looking back at the glory days of beating a totally depleted side one nil. For them there is nothing else othere than us.

This is how it will be unless we get new owners (no chance) or they don’t get promoted before the parachutes run out (a chance).

Until then we are playing with collective arms tied around our backs so it is what it is and I’ll be shelving any thoughts of getting back on our perch until then.

TBH I don't get excited about anything with Rovers at the moment, how can you?

On the flip side, I'm not really that arsed about losing either, even to that lot.

It is what it is, venky Rovers.

Dullest derby I can remember to be honest, on the pitch anyway, 0-0 would have been a fair result.

Thank fuck I don't have to watch them play every week with their mind numbing brand of Parker ball. Yeah they do have a strong chance of promotion but it's horrific to watch.

Nothing much to say about the match, it was that uneventful 😴

I can’t agree with that.

My heart was pounding for the entire match yesterday, as I always want to do them.

I have Venky’s, but will always love Rovers.

They will be gone one day.

Thought the atmosphere was pretty flat by derby standards from both ends. Sat in JW DE and until they scored you wouldn’t think they had all the bottom tier.

The last time we played them at Ewood was far better. Maybe the difference between an evening kick off and a lunchtime kickoff in sub zero temperatures.
