v Oxford United (a) - 18/1/25

A quick glance suggests the last time we lost away at Oxford in the league was in November 1984. Had an enjoyable trip there in our 91/92 promotion season.

On to the present day and Oxford are one of the form teams in the league (unbeaten in 5). They also have a good home record and have only lost 3 out of 13 this season in the league.

A 1-0 away win will be an excellent result. This could be a tricky game.

Team for me....

                        Pears

Brittain.    Baath.   Hyam.    Beck

  Buckley.    Tronstad.    Cantwell

      ACD.        Gueye.     Dolan

Think the 4231 isnt really working without Travis, Id change it slightly to start Cantwell a bit deeper and set the expectation for Buckley and Cantwell to break forward. Tronstad and Buckley both sitting deep is too static.

I was there.

I’m pretty sure that Billy Hamilton scored the late winner, after our lot were goading him for being an ex - Burnley player.

Football fans never learn 🙂

Where'd be the fun in that? It's all part of the panto really.

Well, yes, you are right, but the first thing I think of , (especially when it's a striker), is, "watch them score the winner".

I thought exactly that at the Manor Ground in November, 1984, and I was only 17 🙂

I presume away fans can check to see their car is ok at the other end. Isn't the stadium quite out the way and awkward to get to?

I've just arrived and there is a huge car park on a small retail park behind invisible stand that is free to park and has stewards.

I'm glad I drove and not trying to make the journey by bus or taxi from Oxford City Centre, it's 5 miles away from the city centre according to the club website. Feel sorry for the club and the fans about that, would be great if they get a new stadium closer to the city. This is like Rovers relocating to Great Harwood or B*rnley relocating to Colne in terms of how far it is from town.

We're setting off soon, thermos flasks filled, hip flasks at the ready and rugs, gloves, scarves and rattles on board. Will this be our group's first win of the season? I desperately hope so.

Bloody hell Jim, thought we had a chance until I read this.
