[Archived] Sam Allardyce Messiah or simply a good manager?

Fail = Bottom half

Success = Top 5 or 6

Wasn't that the New Vision? Still at least we have a Kentaro man at the helm now and by God we've been impressive. One win in 12 Bucky!! And we're safe now aren't we? Only West Ham to sort out tomorrow. All hail the Venkys.

Strange that.

I remember when Sam was in charge we were "punching above our weight" and that we "should be grateful just to be in this division".

Sam's a good manager and a very clever man.

I went to the "An evening with" him a couple of years ago and he'd worked out some incredible stat or other something along the lines that if we could become the best team in the League at scoring from corners that would automatically put us 12th in the League over a season. (It might have been direct free kicks not corners but the principle was the same)

Good luck to him and if he wants to pay football in a "painting by numbers" fashion that's his prerogative. Personally I found it terrible to watch and it would appear rightly or wrongly that it's not just me judging by the seeming reluctance to snap him up after he left Ewood.

I agree, it was terrible to watch. By why sack him then? And then appoint a complete novice on a long term contract? Why not wait until we were on say 30 points for example, or even safe? Maybe the permanent signings (who have hardly played) we made wouldn't have been Sam's choice in January? Ever considered that? Hence the need for a sharp exit?

Also ever considered that Sam's pay off may have meant he can't take another job until the summer? I have no idea by the way but stranger things have been put in such agreements I'd wager.

Agreed, agreed, agreed and agreed. Should have waited until the end of the season and not renewed his contract or at least until we were safe and parted company amicably.

I think it's highly feasible that (rightly or wrongly) Rao's didn't trust Sam to spend any of their money in Jan hence Mrs. D's comments about previous transfers not working.

I think Sam's transfer dealings here were poor myself although others will probably disagree I'm sure and it's probably not fair to put too much blame on him for that anyway given the financial restrictions on him.

Last post from me tonight, my average has risen remarkably this weekend. Hopefully our strikers can do the same!

I'm glad we agree on the timing! But...

That middle sentence. I'm just not with you Rev. If Sam had spent £4m / £4.5m we'd have expected an impact and players in the first team. Instead we've had the more expensive of the two, the work top, not even kick a ball. 3 million quid and not kick a ball?? When did that last happen? The other fella might be one for the future in all fairness.

So, Kean, our first team coach, had these players lined up did he? He made the signings. No one was pulling the strings then? Of course not, someone wanted Sam out of the way so the fun could begin (here's the cake: some for you, some for me, some for the work top).

Again, I'm not in the know, but it's blatantly obvious to me. And another reason why the whole thing stinks.

Still, just give them a year.

G'Night.

im still not buying the excuse, that they didnt want sam to spend their money. Sam perhaps bought some duds, but in genereal his teams have performed as expected or above, so it cant be that bad. The fact they wouldn trust sam, but then gave the money to a rookie manager, seems strange to me. Even stranger, is the fact, that kean new nothing about formcia, labelling him as the new batigoal.

imo, there were much "greater" forces at work here.

We don't trust Sam but we trust someone who has never managed before or bought a player in his life - hence was JA was based at Brockhall in January.

my suspicion aswell john.

Although it would be nice if it was complicated, I think they didn't "like" Sam and Kean they "liked".

They are probably getting advice on transfers anyway so this would be the case for anyone in charge.

It's probably a bit like what Hodgson had at Inter Milan when he just coached and had little say over signings.

Ofcourse we learnt how sh1t Hodgson is with money, he wasted many 10's of millions.

So we're safe from relegation? I didn't know! I thought we still had 3 very difficult games.

you seem to be wishing relegation on us

How on earth do you make that out from what he said? He's simply dealing in the facts.

You on the other hand seem to be lashing out blindly in all directions in attempting to justify the crass stupidity of the clubs new owners. Why is this? Are you related or something?

Hodgson was a poor mans Sven

Doesn't appear that way now given the fullness of time. Hodgson with 3 high profile Prem jobs in 4 years v Sven destined to grubbing around the lower leagues for his next pay packet.

You will be better served to judge that on the coming ST sales Simon. That will be the acid test.

What the Rao's and Joan in particular know about football and footballers could be written in the back of a postage stamp in felt tip!

Also what knowledge had they of Kean's ability to a. judge a player and b. spend money wisely?

You know what, you could be right on not giving money to Allardyce but giving it to the rooky Kean, but consider this.

If you sit both men down, and ask who and what type of players they'd buy with 5m plus wages you'd get a completely different list.

Keans would have young players with footballing ability, and he’d address the problem area of the team, defensive midfield and striker.

Allardyce would looking for athletes, target men such as James Beattie, and journeyman that he knows will keep us in the league, but will offer no return on the money spent, and no change in style of play.

I know which list I’d go with.

Yes Gav, point taken, but we hardly set the world alight with the 'progressive' signings made in January did we? I personally find this frustrating as we already had a top ten squad in place and with the correct players bought in January should have been able to solidify that position at the very least, but other than JJ the three other lads have contributed diddly squat and cannot be classed by anyone as useful signings to date.

thought i was on ignore ;-)

sam wanted guti and raul, yeah both aging, but certainly players with creativity and cv´s, that would blow the rochinas and formicas out of this world. Furthermore sam wanted popov, do you rememnber him the young and creative playmaker..?

So thats 3 creative players sam wanted this summer and was reported trying to strike deals with..

or what about lewandowski, the pole who now is playing for dortmund and doing well.

Keans would have young players with footballing ability, and he’d address the problem area of the team, defensive midfield and striker.

see above

either you are lying or your memory is awful, or perhaps selective.

so getting players like guti and raul, wouldnt change our style.. oh dear oh dear, this is getting weirder and weirder.

I know which list I’d go with.

me too, the one which creates results.

Ms. Desai practically said as much.

yeah Gav. You know I keep pinching myself over how lucky we were that in a 20 year career in professional football no other club spotted Kean's managerial ability and signed him years ago as their manager.

I'm gobsmacked that Joan has ever heard of James Beattie. Do you think she had way back in Dec? Rem she'd never watched a football match until February.

ffs Topman give it up. You are making a bigger fool of yourself each passing day.

Please don't quote that idiot Theno---I've got him on ignore. Season-ticket holder before he was born but I'm apparently "wishing relegation". Waste of space.

Ms. Desai said she wanted a forward-thinking manager who could promote and develop young talent.

Doesn't really click with 'Mr. Don't-Forget-I-signed-Djorkaeff-Okocha-Hierro-Salgadoafsgfajgffff...'
