6.5 million I think could buy a few PL strikers. Could buy Velios from Everton with that and have change. He's scored a few at PL level and I my mates seen him in reserve games and thinks he will be a great player.

DJ Campbell would surely cost less than 6.5 million? Proven goalscorer though he looks like a thug.

Frazier Campbell I think would bang goals in at C"ship level. Though injury prone.

Would cost less than 6.5 million

Guidetti was priced at 6m and people think he is an excellent buy for that. Has weird illness though.

Defoe, doubt he'd drop a division, getting on in years but would cost less than 6.5m and would bang goals in.

That's just some players, some would be journeymen yes others could prove less of a risk than Rhodes.

I still think the Rhodes deal will collapse.

Can't honestly think of a realistic alternative to be honest. The only one that springs immediately to mind is Bothroyd. He did pretty well in the Championship recently and would surely cost much less than £6.5m? But, then I'm not a professional scout or in the loop of who would be willing to take a step down for a season. Just seems like an awful lot of money to be spending when the player hasn't played at this level consistently. I hope he could do it and, as you say, the Huddersfield fans think he can do it, and they have seen much more of him than I have. At £3m-4m I'd agree it'd be a no-brainer, but at £6.5m?

Remember we bought Kalinic for that sort of money because he was highly rated at a lower level and we only just managed to get lucky and get most of our money back on him after he flopped pretty miserably. Our system, etc. didn't help, but for that kind of money, you'd expect a player to be able to adapt a bit more than he did.

On a slightly different note, why didn't the V's start splashing this sort of cash on Premier League standard players when we needed them last season? Surely this £6.5m would have been enough in January to outbid Everton to the signing of Jelavic (just as an example). Then maybe we wouldn't be in the situation we're in now.

My take on things , Rhodes is a Shebby signing , the fee for this boy would never have been signed off for Kean . The fact Kean has not been given this sort of money shows his place in the food chain .

It's not cut and dried and we need to keep our feet on the ground , believe me , this despite niko a claims is not a half tit pursuit , far from it in fact . Rovers opened up at 5 mill a couple if weeks ago and have been shrewd in not trying to just panic and spend willy nilly on the player .

Our bid now IMO is as good as iit can get for Huddersfield and no other club will come close . The boy whose name escapes me who signed for united this summer from Crewe is a massive talent but his fee was 4.5 million . Despite all Rhodes qualities the fact remains he was league 1 last season and he cannot command a figure like the lad who left Ipswich for Sunderland last summer. The bid is fair and the player is keen . Huddersfield can either take it or risk the bidding war on transfer deadline when that bid will be off the table, rovers undoubtedly would of bought someone else , leaving maybe prem teams to grab him at half the price . We as supporters have learnt once a player shows a desire to leave they can't be kept . So now Huddersfield must decide take the 6.5 now or run the risk

I couldn't find the song thread but I've come up with this to the Hockey Cockey song

You put your J Rhodes in

Your Steve Kean Out

Rhodes In, Kean Out

You shake it all about

You do the Blackburn Rovers and turn around

That's what it's all about

Oh rhodesy rhodesy rhodesy,

oh rhodesy rhodesy rhodesy

Oh rhodesy rhodesy rhodesy

Rhodes In Kean Out get out now!!!

Or along those lines. Feel free to adjust

But this to be sung if and when he signs

If Rhodes is Shebby signing, and Shebby has stated team selection is purely down to The Deluded One, might we have a bit of an expensive bench warmer ( or worse) ?

"Ahh wee Jordan hasn't looked too sharp in training all season, thats why he's only 4 minutes so far" explained the Rovers boss as they prepare for the last match of the season. "I think the rotation up front between Henley, Hanley, Hunley, and Honley has worked really well. They've scored 2 goals between them which is a great return considering none of them are natural goalscorers"

Exactly my thoughts. There is some real posturing going on Ewood.

One thing I'm wondering. Why would they take a striker to an away game when he's injured? Grayson said he's 50/50 for their mid week match, shouldn't he be at home resting?

Hi,

He picked up the injury while playing for Scotland on Weds. Craig Lavein said on telly after the game that Jordan had a tight hamstring at half time, but Jordan wanted to carry on playing, which he did until midway through the second half. He came back to us and trained well with the team on Thursday. The team traveled down to Cardiff on Thursday evening stopping over night. In training on Friday morning in preparation for the game later on, Rhodes hamstring felt tight once more so they sent him for an MRI scan and that showed a small tear in his Hamstring. He needs a weeks rest or could potentially be out for a month.

alas a 2+2 = 5 from the Blackburn end.

I really hope from your perspective that Rhodes doesn't sign for us because if he does these posts are going to get brought up quite a few times. I have no idea which way this will go but to have such confidence in him staying is as misplaced as us being confident that he'll be signing. If we have upped our offer for Rhodes to £6.5m then I think this could happen regardless of whether Rhodes was injured yesterday.

Its a ridiculous amount of money to spend on someone so unproven, considering we seemed unwilling to spend that much on proven international talent last year.

my only concern, and I can only be truthful, I've never been a stuck-in-the-mud is I have become aware that a premiership team has come in with a bid that is close to our valuation. The offer has not been accepted but at the same time, a bid from a premiership team and the club being a good fit for Rhodes makes it more difficult to turn down.

this is not in the press. If he does go I will honour my bets and send that lad a tenner. The £50 bet to charity on Town finishing above Blackburn is still on though.

So from being adamant he was going NOWHERE you're now concerned he might be off...okay...

Mate you don't have a clue what's going to happen. None of us do at this point.

Rhodes won't be sold to a championship club. I thought that a premiership club would not take an £8 million chance on him until he'd had 1/2 a season in the championship ( January transfer window). Hoyle would rather keep Jordan than go out and buy a replacement.

Things change though with regards to who bids. we will be tested. lets see what happens.

You don't know that, how and why would you? Also who the hell do Hudds think they are? Not selling to a championship rival giving it the big one. You're a little tin pot club with no history. Show us your trophies :tu:

Also if we offer more money then he'll come to us. The same happened with Leon Best and Danny Murphy. Rhodes is also keen on the move. That comes from well respected rovers ITK's(GM,Kamy and Cryer).

Stick that up yer jumper :rover:

Football didn't start with the Premier League.

Before Jack, Rovers had no major successes since 1928 with an FA Cup win in 1928. Huddersfield had won the football league 3 times in a row earlier that decade.

Don't throw out nonsense that disrespects other clubs.

Just read on Kamys twitter account our bid is now upto 6/6.5 mil all upfront. Wonder if Hud will turn that down. Also said the the extra money might be coming from Petrovic going to turkey on loan or being sold. At least rovers are going back with improved offers, which is a big difference to last summer

Hi,

you seem a little touchy in your post.Oh well, as it is. No billy-big boots from me, statement of facts. We don't need to sell as we have money behind us (I am thankful every day for that). Although we have publicly stated we would be happy to simply stay up this year, I would say the club is hoping and is quietly confident for a bit more, a run at the play offs maybe. We will not weaken ourselves and strengthen a rival ( all 24 teams in the league are rivals) indeed a rival that might be potentially contesting those play off spots with us. Hoyle will not sell to a rival championship club. Blackburn or anyone else. Premiership teams are a different matter though. A genuine step up for Jordan, will not haunt us in the same league that season, it would be unfair to stop him from bettering himself, when the context for Town is acceptable.

Play offs?? Delusions of grandeur they are mate. You only went up cos Sheff Utd cocked it up and lost their best player.

  • Backroom

Financially going from 6k a week to 40k a week is certainly bettering yourself.

You're too fixated on the league aspect of it, Ben. It's as much about the teams that have money. There's a big difference between your chairman being able to pay Rhodes 6k a week and our club being able to offer him 40k (reportedly).

I'm not convinced this will happen to be honest, but wouldn't be surprised if it does.
