After joining Coventry as a schoolboy he made rapid progress through their youth ranks and into the England Under 21 team. Signed with Steve Livingstone, he was the first big money signing made by the Rovers for years. Initially signed to play at centre back he impressed with his reading of the game, his coolness and the strength of his tackling. Moved to left back he tidied up a problem position but fell foul of referees and was sent off three times. These were caused by slowness of acceleration rather than undue roughness but the club was sufficiently concerned to replace him with Alan Wright. Apart from a spell at Portsmouth his career disintegrated rapidly and he ended up as player manager at Rugby United. In June 2005 he became manager of Solihull Borough but was in the position for just less than a year.
