A one game failure with Coventry, Aussie Campbell worked his way back into the Football League and grasped it with both hands. A hard man who could be relied upon to give whole hearted effort and total commitment he was a devastating man marker who more than anybody helped secure the 1928 FA Cup Final victory by eliminating the threat of the great Alec Jackson. A powerful striker of a dead ball he made full use of free kicks or penalties. Allowed to leave for Huddersfield because of a surplus of half backs, he made another FA Cup Final appearance and continued to play at the same level in some 200 games for the Yorkshire club.
