    Summary

With the money from the sale of Roy Vernon Blackburn brought the Leeds ' player  Chris Crowe to Ewood. He had blond hair, pace and  an explosive shot, exactly the same qualities as the club's  other inside forward Peter Dobing. The result was that they never gelled and  Crowe increasingly looked a misfit. An experiment was made with him playing on the right wing, perhaps this  should have been persevered with because when he left the club he started playing in this position and gained a cap for England. However no club ever fully harnessed his massive potential and his  career faded dramatically. He had been born in Newcastle when his father was briefly employed there but when he was three months old the family moved to Edinburgh and he played for the Scottish schools ' side. He would have joined Hearts but the Scottish system at the time did not offer traineeships  and rather than be farmed out to a junior club, he opted to go to England and join the Leeds' groundstaff. He retained  an affection for the city and moved back after he had finished  playing, working in a variety of jobs (shoe shop manager, taxi driver, licensee and estate agent).
