A Lancashire County youth player he progressed through the youth team and was given one first team game. During it he demonstrated surprising poise and technique but lacked pace. When Kenny Dalglish arrived and started introducing new players he was lost in the maelstrom and was released. Recruited by Chester City he found it hard to break into the first team and was again released. He moved into the Welsh League with Holywell Town but made only a handful of appearances.
